Gamble. Seems to have good intuition with Riki (will combo well) :)

Who ever it is will need to be fit im sure reynolds last year was playing close to the middle with walker popping up either side hopefully we play a similar way.

And that is how Kevvie wants to play as well I'm sure.

Can recall Isaako after maybe the Titans game... he specifically mentioned being pleased about the link up plays between the 6, 7 and 1... and I recall one of the tries that started on the left had Milf wrap around the ruck to feed it onto maybe Gamble?? who then went to Isaako for the try... but the wrapping around the ruck created the extra man, because you can see Proctor not reacting to Milf and then it was pretty easy by the time it got to Isaako.

It would appear a minor thing, but it was all about recognizing the defence and creating the extra man... rather than hoping the extra man was created due to a quick ptb or something along those lines... manufacturing the overlap, which is what storm, etc. are good at

I think Mam has the most potential as a 6 with Reynolds so I voted for him, but I wouldn't be picking him yet. I'd give him until at least origin in ISC, and blood him towards the end of the year if he is blitzing them.

Reynolds is neither Maori or Indigenous
Man that's strange I swore I remembered him playing for the Indigenous team. One of those memories we all have that never happened haha.

Gamble & Kelly are neck and neck, but Gamble brings better defense...a better attitude and a surprisingly good short kicking game.

Whos the back up number 7, just as important a question for us as who is the #6?

We argubly have too many options. Kev "should" understand being a ex-half himself the importance of finding a combo that works and then sticking to it.

Gamble - has the most reps with the rest of the squad. He should be wearing the #6 in round 1.
Walters -coming off a major injury and not much NRL football under his belt. At best he starts #14
Kelly - the most experienced option but with doubts over durability, id have him as Reynolds back up.
Martin - See Walters. Give him reps in ISC.
Mam - HIghest ceiling of the lot. He is the guy im tagging will finish the year as Reynolds partner. Until then, ISC..

agree with all of this.

I think most of the guys flagged for 6 can double as a 7 if needed, excluding Ezra.

I'd say Kelly would be first cab off the rank if Reynolds went down, then Gamble, TMM/Billy.. and then a call up to Tyrone Roberts from ISC (if he's not already been picked up elsewhere).

Kelly played mostly 7 in ESL, so is used to be first receiver and his kicking game improved over in ESL. Not just the 40/20 he kicked in All Stars but in his first trial last year I recall him kicking for space early in the tackle count to pull it up on the try line, which shows a level of control on his long kicking.

I think he would've played more 7 last year but injury came and pulled him out for several weeks, then he lost his form at the back end. I think he was brought back too quickly after the long layoff, recall him being injured all the way up until he was named in the side. Wouldve preferred he got a game or so back in ISC to get back up to speed rather than chucked straight into the firing line.

Gamble probably played the most 7 last year?? He wasnt brilliant by any means, but he looked comfortable handling it as a first receiver as he likes to dig into the line. His short kicking is already quite good, but his long kicking requires improvement.

I think TMM would possibly be more suited to 7 than 6... I think he's been mostly put at 6 as he's been surrounded by established halfbacks like JT. I thought he looked comfortable as a first receiver in the trial, albeit against weak opposition, but I'd be interested to see how he goes if he ends up playing mostly 7 in ISC this year (anyone in the know, know which team he has been affiliated to and whether he's likely to play 6 or 7 there?).

TMM's development and career to date kind of reminds of Clifford. Clifford seems to always look uncomfortable sitting outside a dominant 7 and not really knowing when to chime in, but becomes far more active when put in the 7 and being first receiver. I never really rated TMM primarily because he was too passive as a 6 sitting outside a JT or Morgan, but in the trial I thought he looked really active as a 7 and his running looked dangerous, as well as the thought he put into his kicking. I thought his long kicking was probably better than Gamble, as it felt controlled in terms of locking them into their 10m line.

Billy probably the least appropriate as a 7, but I think he's played there a little and failed halfbacks are usually converted to become good hookers. He likes to run and his speed isn't electric so he's had to be crafty, which can lend itself a little more to a first receiver getting it in the middle of the field. I think his long kicking would probably be pretty limited though, and more likely your standard 5th tackle bombs aimed in the general vicinity of the 10-20m line.

Outside of that Tyrone Roberts is sitting in ISC on a train and trial, who would be suitable as a depth 7 if we're getting dire.

Not making a call until after the trials, but my early preference is Albert at 6, Tyson on the bench. Then I'd cut one and add Ezra to the bench and see how he handles the NRL. I'd be looking to elevate him to starter by Origin, or flick him back to the QCup to bake a little longer. Billy is the wildcard.

I love watching Walters play, he's a smart player and he's self made that's the two things I like about him. The try that stands out for me that shows his smarts was in 2019 Easts got a penalty probably 30m out and everyone turned around, Walters took the tap and ran 30m to score untouched. Poor awareness from everyone but him.

Colts with Easts in 2013, then BRL finally ISC in 2015 and then four years of ISC before he got an NRL start. He fights and persists.

Won't play 200 NRL games or Origin but he's the type of player that can play 20 games a year and no problems, low maintenance and be your Sean Rudder or Perry.

I think that its fair to say for the most part ..... that a 6 can be a 7 and a 7 can be a 6

Not much difference really between the two, with the way the game is played these days.......

What's going on with Gamble's hair? I thought this team was based in Brisbane not Ipswich.

He should be at the bottom of the list until he visits a barber.
