Which one are you picking?

I said Gamble our of respect for what he did last year. He deserves the chance to own it but in saying that the club will want to avoid what happened last year with all the changes. So it will come down to whoever plays the best in the trials and gets the nod from Reyno.

I can see Reyno playing with any of Gamble, Walters or Kelly and including TMM once he finds his feet. I think Mam will get a chance in the year also. But if I was going to pick purely based on who will fit with Reyno the most, it would be Kelly and TMM (fully fit). I just haven't seen enough of Walters and obviously Mam.

Kelly is playing this weekend in the All Stars match at 14. Is Reyno retired from rep footy or was he not released? It will be good to see how Kelly is looking now he has made the full transition back into top grade and should be physically ready now.

Reynolds is neither Maori or Indigenous

It's amazing that we have 4, and potentially a 5th, legit first grade options for the #6. I'm still sceptical of Gamble's ceiling only because it took him this long to get a shot in first grade, but his competitiveness and energy is unmatched. Kelly is the most established of the first graders and has the highest ceiling, while TMM had proven himself before injury. Walters and Mam I have no idea about, I'd consider Walters a genuine option now simply because of media reports, while Mam is too young to know yet.

Even better is that Kelly played most of his football for the Titans at halfback, so even if (touch wood) Reynolds gets injured and is out for a few weeks we have the depth to cover him short term. I won't pretend we won't lose a lot, but for a couple of weeks we could hopefully push through thanks to genuine depth.

And Tyrone Roberts running around with an affiliate in qcup as a third back up halfback... or maybe even 4th because Gamble wore the 7 a fair bit last year.

Roberts isn't elite, but he has a fair bit of experience running a team from the 7 and has a serviceable kicking game

I can’t stand the bloke and I think he is overrated (or maybe he is made to look a lot better because of who he has around him), but Cody Walker took forever to get a run in first grade too.

Re the Gamble point, for the most part, i think it is fair enough, but there are outliers such as Cody Walker who debuted at 26 and is now arguably the best in the comp. Sometime people just need a shot and to have people believe in them and it makes all the difference.

Geography plays a part too, someone like Kurt Capewell who was in Charleville might not play school boy football and club might be limited by distance and what you can get to on a Saturday.

So by the time he comes down to IGS and boards he's probably played 100 less games than another kid living at Holland Park that plays two games a week.

Capewell didn't debut in the NRL until early 20's and after 50 ISC games.

Gamble or Kelly - probably Kelly if he's fit, could compliment Reynolds in the same way Cody did.

I'm clearly biased lol but I wouldn't argue with Gamble not being picked if one of the other blokes was playing better, so while I think Gamble deserves first dibs I will trust the coaching staff to make the right call depending on form etc. I also think that a Kelly/Reynolds combo could work in a similar fashion as Walker/Reynolds so there's a lot to like about that option too.

Kelly, just. I think he is a bit flashier which might help out Reyno a bit. Gamble would be a good bit of mongrel though.

I have a nightmare that Reynolds is gonna do an ACL before the season starts. But I think that's just the fatalist Bronco in me.

I'd give Gamble first shot....unless he's been stinking it up in the off season and one of the others has shone far brighter than the rest.

He did a job for us last year and far exceeded expectations IMO. Show some loyalty Kevvie....give him first crack.

I wanna see gamble, turps and Reynolds work together. The potential for success is huge- 3 guys with the right attitude. i don’t care if Walters does get a shot but he shouldn’t start the season. The worst thing kevvie could do for team harmony is shoehorn him in just because.

i think Kelly is the best person purely because he is similar to walker and also Mam who seems to being groomed for the 6 position. this way our style of play doesn't change and those players can just slot in when needed.
also I think Gamble is more versatile and can cover other positions.

If it were up to me, it would be either Gamble or Kelly (leaning towards Gamble just for his mongrel which the team sorely needs), because either of them seem like they would compliment Reynolds well. Alas we all know who it will ultimately be.

Kelly with the benefit of a full pre season is the best option IMO but I'm not going to complain as whoever gets the job will likely have earned it which is the way it should be.
To have built some depth as quickly as we have is a real achievement.
Christ... I'm just pleased not to have a Boyd & Turpin combination going around in the halves!
