Who is the worst NRL commentator?

When Cameron smith commentates it hurts me, he has terrible speaking skills

100%. He used to be alright, but then took the current trait of having commentators being really critical and having to play the main character (THE GOULD EFFECT).

He is Completely bias against the broncos too.

At least ginnane sounds like he enjoys the game, even if it is a bit much at time.

Most of the others just whinge the entire time about the ref, or the rules etc. I mean blocker and Ennis are shocking too, but at least they could blame CTE.

It's neck and neck between Andrew Voss and Warren Smith. Smith has a better understanding of the game and does a better job of educating fans on the sport. Voss comes up with some better calls and can really sell the personalities and theatre well.

10 years ago I would have easily given it to Vossy. However he's prone to getting sidetracked and it drags the entire call down. He'll also get carried away and every try is the greatest thing you'll ever see.

Colour commentary is rough, probably Slater because he has a good understanding of the game and isn't completely out of touch like Gus and Joey.

Of all-time? I miss Rabs, Sterlo, Fatty, Gus with Vossy on the sideline so much. Take me back.

I also enjoyed David Wright and Warren Boland calling the QCup back in the day. Billy J. Smith calling the Broncos was great too and would be completely fine with having a Broncos-bias commentary team. Sadly those days are over and I don't think Dobbo and Kevie could fill those shoes.

My opinion of Kevie's commentary is similar to Cobbo's opinion of his coaching.

I don't think I need to add anything else. 10yrs ago it was Vossy easily...he WAS the next Rabs. Then, whatever has happened has happened and he feels the need to sensationalise absolutely everything. It's a genuine shame. For mine it's Warren Smith, genuine understanding of the game and doesn't go over the top on anything really.

Man I miss the days of Rabs, Sterlo and co.

+1, The Matrix was right, civilisation did peak in the late '90s.

Hadley effectively got him sacked for laughing at Rabs's statue and he went to SkySports NZ

Social media then happened and he got it in his head that he could get famous online/in the US by going overboard - I think it was the Nathan Friend catch and flip that was the snowball that started that particular avalanche after it got featured on SportsCenter and he was commentating for Sky doing the Warriors home games.

But yeah since coming back he's joined the Fox circlejerk style of coverage

This was the peak of RL commentary and will never be beat again.

I agree with Warren from the current crop, and Slater/Johnson/Graham. Maybe A Johns tbh, I actually find him OK to listen to. I cannot stand any of the others.

They don't explain the game, they continually get sidetracked talking about random shit, it's just like mates sitting around having a yarn at the pub while the game is on. The likes of Ginnane, Matt Thompson & Vossy make my ears bleed. The whole thing across both channels is so unprofessional...but hey, it's the NRL, so that suits this farce of a competition beautifully. An amateur comp masquerading as a professional sport, it's tragic.
