Missed some damn easy ones!

i missed yugoslavia and Austria. i thought id cruise thru it. I consider myself a world cup trivia guru

I missed Poland, Bulgaria and Czechoslovakia.

this could be awesome....

think of who each groups top seed will be....

the 8 will probably be south africa, england, france, germany, italy, spain, argentina, brazil.

then 2nd seed could be: Portugal, Mexico, Netherlands, USA, Paraguay, Chile, Switzerland and.....considering how well we made it into the top 16 teams in the last world cup, only losing to the eventual winner of the tournament and the fact that we are ranked 14 in the fifa rankings....then Australia are a good chance of being drawn here!!! that means that we would avoid the likes of portugal, mexico, netherlands etc.

If we can also draw england, south africa, france or Argentina in our group, then we have a pretty damn good shot of winning our group imo.

however, theres always the great chance that we get put in pool 3, and draw spain and netherlands and its bye bye world cup lol.

As for England, I love to write them off, and Id love to put down that I think they will get eliminated in the 1st round, but with Fabio Capello at the helm...anythings possible. I rate Capello as the greatest coach in the time that I've been watching football. Hes already proven that he can get the best out of a struggling England side...imagine if the English players hit form, Lampard & Gerrard finally strike up that combination that English fans have only dreamed about... something to think about anyway. They definitely have an X-factor status in this tournament.

As for my teams (other than aus), Italy arent really looking the goods these days which is a shame. would be cool to see them repeat and everyone knows Argentinas issues.

some wildcard predictions:

USA to make the Quarter Finals. Ive seen them play some games over the past few months and they are looking very very sharp. they were awesome at confeds as well.

South Africa to be the first nation in history to fail to get out of the first round when hosting the tournament.

I predict a Spain v Brazil final with Brazil winning no. 6

Def didnt miss Bulgaria!! 94 was one of my fave world cups. Had Baggio not been so godamn dominant against Bulgaria in the semis, Bulgaria couldve won the whole damn thing. Stoichkov was on fire, Brazil didnt play all that well in the final, Bulgaria coulda won. That wouldve been nice. I wouldnt have had to put up with all the taunts at school for aaaaages about Baggio missing that penalty lol.

I have a feeling Aus won't be making it to the second round this time. And re England, if it was Sven or McClaren managing them still then Australia would definitely be a good chance of causing an upset. But to add to pennys statements about Capello, he's probably one of the most non-BS coaches I have ever seen. He will be ruthless with England at this tourney as he has been with them since the start.

no joke...He gets the best out of any team he coaches. He did it with Milan in the early 90s, he did it with Real in the late 90s and with Juve after that.

having france and portugal in pot 4 could make for a really really tough group. Here's hoping for south africa, algeria and slovakia!

Agree PWA not a bad draw. England got a great group and thought NZ did well to. At the end of the day I suppose there is no such thing as an easy group at the World Cup

Spain have a pretty decent group as well.

I don't actually think our group is actually all that easy. Serbia have some excellent young players coming through, Germany is Germany and Ghana are an alright team with some good players, although we should be able to handle them.

Our group is harder than last time, Germany are World Cup specialists but the game is drawable on the right day, Serbia are very hard to break down and a 0-0 result would be a good one, wouldn't be suprised if Serbia finish with 3 0-0's and Ghana have the potential to kill us or anyone in that group especially on 2006 showing where they had the better of Brazil for long periods of their 2nd round match. Whilst no of our opponents are unbeatable they are all at a higher level than us currently and unlike a Japan we can't out muscle or out stamina either Serbia or Ghana.
