NEWS Young Star Coates Signs Upgraded Deal

Seems pretty good. Strong like Inglis but Inglis had a lot more pace. Either way, upgrade on Shiba long term.

Thought I was the only who have a fetish of cloning Locky for 1-17 Broncos team. Glad that I am not the only one. Lol!

BHQ have found a new species! A Oat-Bird

I always make a point of stopping short of the GI comparisons. Not because I have a low opinion of Coates, but there were things GI was doing at 17 in QCup that people still talk about to this day.

Coates is smoother than Inglis, when Inglis scored seven tries in three games to start 2005 there was this power about it. He wasn't a Ferrari he was a truck even his running had power and speed. Coates doesn't do that, he just glides more Peachey than Inglis.

Screw the next Inglis, where's the next Hodges? Silky smooth skills, deceptively powerful and an innate feel for the game. An injury free Hodges clone would be a walk up start for becoming the second best centre of all time, only narrowly behind the great man himself.

Inglis was 17 on debut for Norths v Wynnum round 7 and scored two tries.
2004- 6 ISC games 8 tries and 6 goals.
In Colts- 14 tries and 42 goals including a try and six goals in the GF.
Qld U17

2005- 12 ISC games 18 tries and 39 goals.
Qld U19- two of the best tries ever for Qld.

Coates got two tries on debut for Tweed too and was MOTM for Qld U18.

Both Herbie and Coates have shown tremendous improvement in 12 months. Coates last year for Qld- 83 meters and just physically not there bar one run. This year second half 218m. Just a different physical contest. Against the Pride he judged the situation really well and scored two tries, just being in the right spot. Good hands and came in when he had to, then second try stayed out and got the pass to run away untouched.

In the Test I thought his defence was excellent, he showed that when things aren't going his way attacking wise he can still stay involved in games, same as the first half for Qld this year. Even going back to the Souths trial this year in Warwick, showed he was physically ready for the challenge of men then a chance comes and he runs and scores.

Herbie has improved a lot, last year he would be around games but find his way a lot, I remember he broke his hand at Easts and Tweed but showed a toughness through that that was impressive. His two tries against the Capras on the back of two broken hands was tough.

He's a more versatile player now- not position wise but in games he fills more roles for Norths and and has learned to read Ahearn well. Shows he's smart and adapts.
I am excited to see both play but especially Farnsworth. Haven’t seen him play since U20s but to me he looked raw, unfinished NRL prospect. No weight but his returns were never backed off. He just has something about him.

Early call to have milf @ 1
Bird 4 & isaako to 1
Coates/ Farnsworth/Shiba for wing.
And I think Glenn deserves another year, so Fifita or gillo to the bench and offa to 13.
Seggy or paix off the bench also and obviously milf going back to 6.
There's a few options which is pleasing after this season from hell.

Who knows... if Herbie and Coates take off could eventually go with:
2. Herbie
3. Staggs
4. Bird
5. Coates

11. GOATES
12. Fifi

Oates gets to transition into the forward pack alongside Fifi (Sua gone, Glenn 1-2 years left, Gillett 2-3 years left)

Herbie and Coates are specialist outside backs rather than Oates who ended up on the wing out of necessity, but still has some weaknesses
