Probably been done a few times, but i am bored so yeh.

Just to make it interesting, you can only name a maximum three players from the club you support. icon_smile

For me:

1. Xabi Alonso

I love the way Alonso plays, try to base my own game on it. His composure on the ball and ability to pick out passes is just sublime. In recent years he's also improved his defensive abilities which is a massive bonus. He is a classic footballer IMO.

2. Javier Mascherano

What a legend. Best defensive midfielder in the world in my eyes. He'll never stop working for the team and is one of the best tacklers in the modern game. It's brilliant watching him spring after someone and just scythe them down with an inch perfect tackle. One of the most passionate players out there.

3. Fernando Torres

I love him, no really i do. [icon_lol1. Best striker in the world IMO. Pace, dribbling and finishing - all brilliant. Attitude is quality, such a loyal fella.

4.

5.

Two more to come when i have a bit more time.

I'll assume this means current footballers. My list isn't necessarily in order either

1. Djibril Cisse - We finally have a quick striker with a good eye for goal, he seems a bit greedy at times though and gets caught offside too often.

2. Kenwyne Jones - He is a bit patchy with his form but he is awesome when playing well. Always a threat from set pieces too, I'd hate to be marking him.

3. Cesc Fabregas - Undoubtedly one of the best creative midfielders in the world IMO and he is only 21. Seems very mature as well.

4. Shay Given - This guy never seems to get a lot of wraps but he is a fantastic Goalkeeper and IMO, one of the best in the world. Shame he has spent most of his career up to now at a shitty, under performing club.

5. Steven Gerrard - Based on his ability, anyone who doesn't respect what this man is capable of on the pitch is a twat. Best box to box player in the world. The one thing I hate though is I wish he would find his Liverpool form when playing for England, we only ever seem to see glimpses of his brilliance while he is playing for the national team.

1. Xavi Hernandez - He is class personified, best passer in Europe and always so composed on the ball. Always willing to win the ball back for his team aswell. Showed at the Euro's also just how good he is in big games.

2. Carles Puyol - He optimizes Barca in every way. He bleeds for the club and you can tell how much every minute of every game means to him. As a player and captain I have never been able to fault his efforts on top of him being a world class defender.

3. Lionel Messi - The kid is a freak and can do just about anything he wants with the football. The quickest dribbler I have seen and also able to keep the ball closer to himself than anyone else at high speed, I think he may even get better which is scary for anyone who will have to face him.

4. Andreas Iniesta - He is somewhere between Xavi and Messi, has the beautiful passing combined with the mazy dribbling and pace to burn. Versatile as well able to play a deeper central role or out wide and further forward, like Messi he is young and is going to get even better.

5. Steven Gerrard - He is Liverpool and it would be a sad day if he ever left. Like Puyol you see how much it all means to him. Always finds the big moments when they are needed and unlike the player similar playing in the EPL in Lampard (who some think is better) doesn't rely on deflections for his amazing strike rate in front of goal.

1. Frank Lampard - such a solid midfielder, been consistently great for Chelsea for many years, and for many more to come. He may very well be the deflection king, but he still gets it done.

2. John Terry - Best defensive player in the game.

3. Pavel Nedved - This guy personifies the midfielder, works tirelessly, never lets up, continually looking for the next attacking play, he's been the cornerstone for Juve for a long time now.

4. Steven Gerrard - This guy is the games best midfielder. His skills are some of the best I've seen, fantastic dead ball specialist, great attacking mind. Brilliant.

5. Petr Cech - A better goalkeeper there is none.

1. Ronaldo- By far the greatest striker i've ever seen, already a legend and if it wasn't for injuries, could have easily gone down as the greatest ever.

2. Zidane- Best midfielder i've ever seen, no one in world football right now is close to what this guy could do.

3. Sergio Ramos- Best Right Back in the world without doubt, great header and tackler, strong as a bull.

4. Iker Casillas- Best gk in the world, the day he retires, Real Madrid will bleed.

5. Robinho- Great talent, unfortunately one of the dumbest football players i've ever seen when it comes to choosing what team to play for.

1) Stuart Pearce - pride, passion and a great captain (for club and country).
2) Des Walker - best defender I have ever seen.
3) Stan Collymore - had absolutely everything a striker needs to succeed and should have been an England striker for 10 years but his head went. Then after moving I loved to hate him.
4) Paul Scholes - won me a lot of money one day on first goal scorer/correct score double. icon_thumbs_u
5) Matt le Tissier - a player I enjoyed watching although he always seemed to score against us.

playing now:

1. Lionel Messi- best player in the world, wearing blue and red. whut whut.
2. Samuel Eto'o- He may be a bit of a wanker, but that doesnt even bother me one bit. he rules at football. I am of the belief that he, not roni, was the reason that we ruled so bad a few years ago.
3. Carles Puyol- The man bleeds blue and red, how could i not like that
4. Esteban Cambiasso- I used to be a huge fan of Argentinian football and when i was really into it, there was a lot of good youngsters coming thru, mainly Riquelme, Aimar, Saviola and Cambiasso. ive followed his career and he is awesome. sucked when he went to real and inter, but still, he kicks ass.
5. Tim Cahill- how could you not love this guy. he should leave shitty england, but still hes awesome.

Mentions: Del Piero, Riquelme, Martin Palermo, Iniesta, Ronaldinho, Kun Aguero, Carlos Tevez

Retired:

1. Roberto Baggio: i would turn for him probably
2. Diego Maradona: best player of all time. have to respect that. he was genius.
3. Hristo Stoichkov: this guy was so cool. he still loves barca and hates real to this day.
4. Fabrizio Ravanelli: even tho i love barca, my fave league has always been Serie A, and i loved Ravanelli, with his grey hair, shirt over head celebrations and goalscoring ability.
5. Gianluca Vialli: this guy ruled for both Juve and Sampdoria. sucks he went to stupid chelsea. he scored awesome goals on a regular basis.

Mentions: Baresi, Signori, Alan Shearer (best english player of all time), Cantona, Peruzzi, Koeman, Ciro Ferrara

Are we doing all time as well now? lol

1. Alan Shearer - A geordie yes, but an absolutely class striker, a true gentleman and fantastic sportsman.
2. Zinedine Zidane - Unbelievable vision and dribbling ability, always a pleasure to watch
3. Matt Le Tissier - Absolute freak. Some of the goals this guy scored from midfield were incredible. I also greatly admire him (and Shearer also) for staying with a club they loved and ignoring the big money offered by bigger clubs.
4. Kevin Phillips - Sunderland Legend. Out of nowhere he flourished for us scoring bags of goals and helping us into 7th place 2 seasons in a row. This actually means a lot to someone who supports a club that actually struggles to have success. He's also the only English golden boot winner.
5. I'm not sure who else. A handful of other players I enjoy/enjoyed watching are Figo, Ronaldo, Raul, Di Canio (Hate the fascist bullshit though)... i could think of more but I'm hella tired

shearer was all about the money. left his first shitty club for big money from blackburn, then left blackburn for even bigger money from newcastle.

Newcastle was his boyhood club. The club he always dreamed of playing for. He chose Newcastle over Man U, and while yes, he got a big pay packet, he also turned down guaranteed trophies and instead joined the Club he was so passionate about.

if he wasnt all about the money, why didnt he stay at backburn or even the club before that, who were both very good to him. i love shearer, but i always thought it was dodgy how he left rovers

He left rovers cause he had the opportunity to go to the club he loved and grew up supporting. I was wrong about the money... I should have known lol, In fact I knew about the transfer record being broken with him but it slipped my mind thanks to me being tired. But he still didn't choose Newcastle just based on the money he would get, he also had the opportunity to sign for Man U, and despite the owner claiming he wouldn't sell to them, I'm sure Shearer could have gone had he really wanted to. I dunno how the deal was "dodgy"? Blackburn sold him and they got a big transfer fee for it too.

Still playing:

1) Ryan Giggs. He has destroyed english defences for 18 years. Scored in every season of the premier league and arguably one of the best individual goals of all time

2) Ruud Van Nistelrooy. The best goal poacher i've ever seen. Has the best scoring record in the UCL.

3) Leo Messi. I love watching this little guy play. He has every skill in the book, fantastic first touch and close control and plays for the team first and foremost. He is having a good run of fitness and if that continues he will easily win the World Footballer of the Year awards (FIFA and UEFA)

4) Wayne Rooney. He's my favourite player just through his sheer tenacity and heart. Can be brilliant on his day, and always puts in when he's playing. Grew up a scouser, but he's a true red now.

5) Nemanja Vidic. Best centre back going around atm, easily. He has a face only a mother can love and doesn't take shit off anyone. Will surely win the Premier League player of the year

Honorary mentions: Cristiano Ronaldo, Thierry Henry, Iniesta, Xavi Hernandes, (what a midfield Barca have), Fabregas, Gerrard (even though he's a prick), Kaka, Torres, Timmy Cahill,

All time is way too hard to mention

i like the touch of Barca support in there, good to see.
