Thought it would be cool to have a thread where you post the QLD team you would personally like to see this year, not the one you think will be picked.

My ideal team this year would be
1. Inglis - has shown this is his best position, and slater is out of form. Inglis' kick returns are too good to ignore
2. Slater - can still chime in and do all the things we know he can do from here
3. Chambers
4. Gagai
5. Boyd
6. Thurston
7. Cronk / DCE - whoever is in better form, atm i would take DCE
8. Scott
9. Smith
10. Myles
11. Guerra
12. Cooper - running off thurston would be great, has been close for years imo
13. Parker

14. Segeyaro - Im usually against taking Smith off, but we have only ever done that in the past with below quality players like Bowen etc. Segeyaro is an 80 min gun and we would not lose a thing by bringing him on, would love to see him carve up the tired blues' forwards
15. Napa - we need some muscle and someone to intimidate now Teo is gone and Napa is as intimidating as they come, that hit on Seggy 2 weeks ago was MASSIVE
16. Papalii
17. McGuire - its time

Ive left out DCE (if hes only bench), thaiday, hodges and gillett. I dont see a point in running DCE on the bench, we tend to lose a bit of go forward when he comes on as we are a forward short. Thaiday is not in good enough form for mine, neither is gillett plus they are both full of mistakes. Hodges i think will be injured, and its time we move forward. I think he could be a liability to carry as he could go down at any moment.

1- Slater
2- Boyd
3- Inglis
4- Hodges
5- Chambers (did a good enough job last year)
6- Thurston
7- Cronk
8- Scott
9- Smith
10- Myles
11- Guerra (deserves a starting spot ahead of Thaiday)
12- Gillett
13- Parker

14- DCE (needs all the experience he can get at this level, but wouldn't be unhappy with Segs)
15- McGuire (overdue)
16- Papalii (please smash Gallen again)
17- Thaiday (always goes to the next level in SOO)

Yeah Thaiday may be a bit down in form, but he's actually going better than he was last year, and far better than 2013 when the captaincy was bogging him down. I'd have him on the bench though, Gillett starting on the right is fine for mine and Guerra on the left went well. Even if it was mostly Inglis sucking in defenders, giving Guerra more space, it still worked.

Out of curiousity, would you pick thaiday on form over the likes of cooper, napa or papalii?

Cooper would have to go to the left fringe, and I don't thing he's better than Guerra.
Napa may eventually get a chance, and although I have both, I would pick Thaiday ahead of Papalii because of SOO form, as both were pretty crap for their respective NRL teams last year...

1. Billy Slater
2. Will Chambers
3. Greg Inglis
4. Justin Hodges
5. Dane Gagai
6. Johnathan Thurston
7. Cooper Cronk
8. Mat Scott
9. Cameron Smith
10. Nate Myles
11. Aidan Guerra
12. Sam Thaiday
13. Corey Parker

14. James Segeyaro
15. Dylan Napa
16. Matt Gillett
17. Josh Papalii

Don't really like the wing situation but Chambers and Gagai are my placeholders for the time being. Would consider Corey Oates as a bolter, he's got a future at this level, can play on the left-hand side and seems to always go up another level when challenged. Still needs to show a thing or two on the wing before he can push pass the incumbent or form back but I'd consider him in the mix.

Otherwise, Queensland shouldn't make too many changes. Give Segs a shot and let's see how handy he can be running off the back of offloads and bring Napa into help control the middle otherwise let's give these guys a shot after they came so close last year despite everything basically going against them.

I cannot have DCE over Cronk. Cronk is amazing at this level. He's the ultimate professional and frankly just a machine. He does the simple things right. Over and over and over again. He is the perfect guy for Origin and obviously works so well with Slater and Smith. DCE could play the house down and I'm still going Cronk.

1. Slater
2. Boyd (Dane Gagai as replacement if not fit)
3. Inglis
4. Hodges
5. Chambers
6. JT
7. Cronk
8. Scott
9. Smith
10. Myles
11. Guerra
12. Gillett
13. Parker

14. Papalii
15. Napa
16. McGuire
17. Segeyaro

18. Grevsmuhl

Unsure who out of DCE or Segeyaro for bench utility, but I feel Segeyaro offers better balance, so DCE would need to play well.

Thaiday is in shit form. We didn't win last year, so loyalty doesn't need to apply so much, especially to older guys who are doing **** all each week. That's also why it's bye bye Chris McQueen.

Almost feel Gagai deserves to be there ahead of Hodges on form, but Hodges is still class. Assuming he's fit of course. Any doubt and Gagai has to play instead.

Grevsmuhl my 18th man because I wanted to make a statement about how I think he'll be a key forward for QLD in the years to come. And because Thaiday.

Same bench as mine. Love it. Has such size, impact, mobility and intimidation.

Cooper has had way better seasons. He might pick up, too early to tell, but no one can deny that Thaiday is 3x the player for Qld than he is for the Broncos. Napa is a totally different player so that's irrelevant, but I could see him getting a bench spot in the next year or two if he continues improving. Torn on Papalii. He's kind of been Thaiday'd in that he's been made to play prop one week, back-row the next, and his form hasn't been anything to write home about. Again, I'd go the safe option and pick Sam.

Obviously not what will be picked but this is what I would like to see assuming Boyd is injured.

1. Inglis
2. Gagai
3. Chambers
4. Hodges
5. Slater
6. Thurston
7. Cronk
8. Scott
9. Smith
10. Myles
11. Guerra
12. Gillett
13. Parker

14. Hunt
15. Papalli
16. McGuire
17. Oates

18. Napa

hunt turned games when he came on for Aus and we need to start introducing our gen next.

Does everyone consider Hodges an automatic certainty if fit?

Is anyone concerned about the form of Matt Scott and JT?

I like the look of a lot of the teams named here but I think we're carrying too many players at the back end of their career for mine.

Whether we were only a broken arm away from nine straight series or not - I don't think Queensland played particularly well in large patches of the first two games.

I'd like to see Inglis at fullback - I think it's time - and Gagai, McGuire and Ben Hunt get at least one game this year.

Most of the team picks itself, but I do like this bench that's popped up a couple of times

14. Seg
15. McGuire
16. Napa
17. Papalii

Napa is a good call. A defensive specialist who is more about dominating with big hits. Te'o was similar, both really showing the value in it.

McGuire is overdue for a selection.

I've been considering Segeyaro off the bench for a couple of years now, and he just keeps getting better and better. Smith wouldn't even have to come off, or at least stay off for long, you can slot one of them at lock defensively.

The two negatives here are the lack of experience and mobility, though all 3 are mobile for front rowers, and Papalii is originally a 2nd rower.

Curious to know who people think will be the next back in line after Gagai/Chambers? It's not an area we have a lot of depth and another time where JYY is really missed.

In previous years I thought Lee and Moga were the next two but that might be changing. John Folau looked great against Souths (he basically ran over Inglis) and has the genetics. Holmes looks promising but the one who has caught my eye is Kurt Mann. Technically a fullback or five eight but he's looked really strong for the Storm this year IMO.

I certainly dont consider hodges a certainty and I think he should be overlooked altogether just because hes a liability.
JT's form is nothing to be concerned about. Did you just see him take down the storm? He hasnt been the cowboys' problem this year, thats for sure, and i dont think Scott is playing that bad either.
I would LOVE to see Inglis at fullback. TBH i think that makes our team the strongest, but we also need slater in there somewhere.
I guess he could play wing, and that would solve one of the problems with a lack of good wingers.

1. Inglis
2. Slater
3. Gagai
4. Chambers
5. Boyd

The more I look at that the more i like it. In fact, im going to edit my original team

I cant agree with having Hunt or DCE on the bench. We have got away with a half on the bench for so long because we were such a good, dominant side. The tide is turning and we need to utilise our entire 17 without having to carry anyone. Last year it was obvious when DCE came on that our forward momentum stopped, we just had too many small guys on the field. Hunt and DCE will get their shots when JT retires.

Curious to know who people think will be the next back in line after Gagai/Chambers? It's not an area we have a lot of depth and another time where JYY is really missed.

I assume you mean wingers since you mentioned JYY. I dont see Gagai or Chambers being long term wingers at all, they are only there because of necessity right now. Lee has shown nothing at all to suggest he will ever make it into the QLD team. For a while O'niell got scarily close to selection but thankfully missed out, hes no good IMO. Folau looks good too, but im not sure hes much of a winger, only playing there coz the eels were short. Moga is more of a centre too.

Holmes has shown he can handle wing so far, although a fullback in nature i think he could do.
I think Feldt may one day be good enough, but at the moment he has poor hands.

We really do have a massive lack of wingers, both in brisbane and for QLD. NSW has guys like Johnson, Mansour, Morris and even Reece Robinson in great form.

Bit optimistic there QUEENSLANDER with your team and it isn't bad and your perfectly entitled to your opinion.

- Inglis won't be fullback ahead of Slater
- Hodges will be there if he is fit
- Cronk will pair with Thurston indefinitely
- Thiaday will be selected as a starter you would think. Cooper is underrated but has been a little of this year imo.
- McGuire will be very lucky to get selected
- Smith will play 80 minutes leaving out Segs. Segs might be even third in the pecking order considering Jake Friend
- Napa can hit hard no doubt but that's his main attribute and I think Mal would be looking for a bit more than that.

Just an important side point, if any player thinks they are too good to play wing in a team, especially a rep team, they should never get selected. I know he has only played one game but Folau should even be in preliminary discussions NOW if he is eligible. That's controversial!!

This isnt a thread for what team we think will happen.... just the team we would like to see. I know there is no chance that team will be picked, but its the team i would pick!
