Just heard on Triple M that SJ to the Dogs for 2 years is basically as good as done for 500k a season. Apparently assurances were also given to Flanno Jr that he's still in the clubs plans so it will be interesting to see how they fit Burton, SJ & Averillo into the side. If the Dogs can somehow get Cheese in that could be a very solid spine.

They also said with Williams arriving at Warrington in the next week that Widdop to NZ is happening too. He will most likely be back up to Niko/CHT although it's possible the Warriors move Niko to 9.

The final topic was Hodgson who we're apparently still circling. Sticky wants him to stay so our chances aren't great.

Fox sports is reporting that Brent read reports that kodi’s preference is the broncos as well as us being interested in Finucane. I don’t think we will sign Hodgson and I’m pretty sure we will only get one of capewell/Su’A. So the team I think we will have close to is that of the one below:
  1. Tesi Niu/Herbie Farnworth
  2. Selwyn Cobbo
  3. Kotoni Staggs
  4. Brenko Lee
  5. Jordan Pereira
  6. Kodi Nikorima (?)
  7. Adam Reynolds
  8. Pat Carrigan
  9. Jake Turpin
  10. Payne Haas
  11. Jadyn Su’A/Kurt Capewell(?)
  12. Jordan Riki
  13. Dale Finucane (?)
  14. Cory Paix
  15. Rhys Kennedy/Tom Flegler/TC Robati
  16. TC Robati/Tom Flegler
  17. Brendan Piakura
Only thing to determine is bench rotation. Last thing I’d be considering is looking in England for a fullback that just knows what there doing and is experienced here. We’re not winning the comp next year so a stop gap like Lachlan Coote could do us the world of good. But you know that’s unlikely

Funicane looked great this weekend. Obviously anyone would have but he showed a lot more skill than I probably realised he had.

I rate Finucane as a player without a doubt. But I also know he wouldn't leave Melbourne unless it was for a handsome payrise.

He would give us a legitimate pack leader, and he has a great attitude but he'd probably want like 800k which he isn't worth. 650k swap for TPJ? I'd take that but no more than 2 years.

Finucane is asking for $800K per season.. what?

He's an overrated plodder. If he wasn't in that Melbourne system he'd be a run of the mill forward.

MASSIVE pass from me.

I thought Finucane was taking a 'paycut' to stay at the Storm.

It's a high asking price but there's a shortage of experienced quality middles on the market and there are clubs (us and Tigers come to mind) that are desperate for them with cash to spend.

He will no doubt have to settle for less but I'm with you and happy to give him a miss.

I think in terms of the Finucane deal he has given up on the 800k and has dropped his asking price a bit. I’d also be thinking that we’re most likely signing Su’A and he’s desperate for a contract at the moment so it won’t be that expensive. I genuinely think that if we get rid of Lodge, TPJ and force Isaako and Oates out the door we can afford to sign Finucane, Su’A (capewell isn’t coming), Nikorima and Lachlan Coote (probably only me that wants him but I reckon he’ll be worth a shot considering he’ll come cheap)

My concern so far is that for a team who has a massive issue with defence and errors, we’ve signed Lee, Pereira, Reynolds, and maybe Sua.

All of those players have issues with at least 1 of the 2 problematic areas of the team. Reynolds is obviously a win because although his defence ispretty poor, he is Mr Reliable when it comes to game management.

The others, however; could never been described as consistent.

Early days though

i think coote would be good while cobbo devolps, has won a comp which is more then our players have ever done!

a lot of our problems start in the middle tho with players being lazy giving away 6 again's on the 3/4th tackle, then also the problem with how there is no cohesion as the side is constantly being changed.

I actually disagree with a lot of people thinking we shouldn’t sign Finucane. He would be great for us and whilst nobody is going to pay 800 for him I think with Lodge and TPJ as well as some others fairly off our books I’d be going after him pretty hard. Players like that aren’t always available in that you get results from them every week and lead from the front. Middles of Payne Carrigan and Finucane is consistent, disciplined and mature and I think we need that. It’s worth the money and revolutionises our side more than a Reynolds does

I want what Joey is smoking sometimes. 5 years to fix the salary cap... you could EASILY have 90% of this squad COMPLETLY off the books in a maximum of 3 years.

5+ years to build standards and get mojo yes. But that is not the same....

It might be 3 years to clear up the cap but then another couple to actually recruit the right players and then poach some big names to make us competitive.

I wouldn't mind Coote, however if Cobbo is the long term option at fullback, I actually think we should bite the bullet and put him there as soon as we can.

Cobbo has been called the next Mitchell or next G.I right? Reynolds has played with both of them. Could borrow a couple of plays.

Finucane is definately the type of player we should be looking at. I can understand the higher price to leave a successful team, but he is asking a bit too much there.

But if we somehow get him and Capewell, even better. Could even put Finucane and Capewell in the second row, and play a smaller ball playing lock, or persist with Carrigan, Flegler or Robati at lock if we wanted/had too.

And I think we could manage without Nikorima if it came down to a choice between the two of them. I think a Kelly/Reynolds combination would be the same as Nikorima/Reynolds combination personally.

Rumours are that Hodgson is currently on 800k p/yr and sounds like he would want a pay rise + extension (assuming 3yrs) to move to Brisbane.
I don't rate him enough to think he is worth 800k and I also believe he only has a good year or two left at NRL level.
I'd be happy if we could snag him for 600-700k, but doesn't sound likely.
