NRL Player Movements & Rumours

Sucks that tpj is letting his career slide, his potential as a second rower is insane. I wish that he developed a better attitude under Bennett, he’d probably be playing in the second row for our club right now if he did.

TPJ - just another lazy poly player whose talent has only got him so far and will never get to the next level because he doesn't have the work commitment required to get there. He will be in the super league in the next 2 years for sure. **** I was so glad to see the back end of him last year.

Well if he’s hanging out with sbw then he has slipped further in life than when he was hanging out with bikies.

Sounds like SBW and his crew have moved on to a new target to take to the Roosters on a cut price deal AND using a new method:

I guess Haas has told them the Broncs under Donuts are too smart for 'em.
Like to think so but - need to remember Dave's main purpose in life is to make money for Murdoch first and foremost.
Everything else is an aside - unfortunately.

Ok I'm going to play devils advocate here.

Lets say the roosters aren't doing any off the books handouts, nothing illegal and the players genuinely are taking unders because they love the club. Nothing sus no golf games all above board.

What could they be doing that is so much different to any other club which entices players to take unders to work there?

Lets look at melbourne, love or hate them they're incredibly successful well run club. They however have been pulled apart this year losing several big name players whom did not offer to stay for unders. They also had Cameron Munster who by his own admission did consider the open market which roosters players suppodoley dont do.

Lets look at Penrith, super sucessfully and look well run however their star hooker was not willing to take unders to stay.

What could the roosters be doing so much better than any other club that players basically tell there agent's "I'm staying, i dont care what the contract is put it in front of me and ill sign it".

I'd love for someone to compile the roosters roster and their reported sallaries than add a collum for what each players market value is compared to what the chooks are playing them.

It is why it can’t be above board. The Storm have Tripp and his murky gambling of record ‘contributions’ to players and recently have still struggled to keep players. Yet the Roosters have players at their peak willing to take pay cuts in the most expensive city in Aus?

They live in the most desirable area in Australia for males in their age bracket, they have great facilities, they are basically guaranteed success and though it has dropped of since the Panthers stepped up they have been incredibly dominant. They have a coach who everyone who has dealt with says is the greatest guy of all time. Extremely smart and caring. Huge access to financial advice and opportunity (even at an above board level).

Objectively, all fan bias aside and thinking about football as a job, it is the most desirable employer in the NRL.

The only clubs that compete on a recent success aspect is the storm and Panthers. Panthers you would have to live in Penrith which is a shit hole.

There’s 2 clubs which is Melbourne and Roosters. If you want to stay in Sydney then Roosters are the only option.

None of the QLD clubs even come close at the moment.

Storm get picked apart because all their big money contracts are in the spine and those positions are locked for the next 5 years or so. The rear of the team get under paid and stay until a desperate team pays them more than they can refuse. Roosters spread the cash around more evenly.

Hmm not sure this is actually the case if there wasn’t the Uncle Nick factor.

All of:
Manu
Teddy
Keary
Walker
Suallii
JWH
Crichton
Radley
Smith
Collins

Would/Should be on big money all things being equal which they aren’t. Factor in that on top of this they poach the best young players from other clubs on big money too.

Their 1, 6, 7 and 9 are all elite like the Storm and then they also have the NZ fullback playing in the centres.

Walker isn’t elite, they didn’t have a good dummy half until this coming season which the jury is still out on how good he will really be, and Keary isn’t elite either. Very good but not elite. Outside of Tedesco there is no comparisons between storm and roosters spine.

Besides, I’m not saying they aren’t cheating because it seems so apparent that they are. I am just answering the other posters question of how could you justify it is we pretend that they aren’t.

If Flegler is getting offered $800k or whatever BS gets sprouted through the media then how much should Collins be getting offered??

He's a Qld and Aus rep... probably a Qld mainstay moving forward. Whereas Flegler is down the list for Qld and probs not even on the radar for Aus

You could basically say the same about Paps. The point is that the spines are basically equal and all on a lot of money. The Roosters supporting cast is better plus they have Manu and still somehow afforded Smith.

I don’t think the spines are equal so this isn’t a foundation on which we can build this discussion.

Below is approximately how I would rank each team’s spine player in their respective position.

Fullback:
Tedesco (1)
Paps (4)

5/8
Keary (5)
Munster (1)

Halfback
Walker (9)
Hughes (3)

Dummy Half
Grant (1)
Smith (5)

You really threw me there with your 9's!! I was like "When the **** did those cheating ***** sign Grant and I thought Smith retired!!!"

Doesn’t matter how YOU rank them, what matters is what they are valued at. All of the Roosters spine are signed on at high wages and all were heavily chased by other teams.

Then they have Manu, who was offered a million from the Warriors on top of their spine.

Then you have Collins as mentioned by @BroncsFan would likely be of similar value to Flegler, even if you take 200k off and put a Collins at 600k, you still have JWH on a lot as well. Then on top of that, you’ve somehow got to fit in Suaalii who is on a fortune reportedly and Crichton who, amazingly, was willing to take a pay cut despite being a current Australian back rower.

Then, they pay more for every club’s junior they poach AND apparently have money left over to chase a Haas/Fifita, etc.

Is there a break down of the Roosters Cap and what payers are paid?
