Our realistic chances?

It doesn't matter where we finish, we should all praise our luck of supporting such a long term successful team.

And damn straight we should expect and deserve a premiership every year and anything less means we should sack the coach and go support the Bunnies or whichever other team has managed to string 2 good months of footy and no injuries together.

I don't think it's too much to expect a premiership every year. Or at least every second year.

Well the NRL auditors would not be doing their job properly if that happened.

And what other team, in the post salary cap era, has been able to meet that expectation to make it reasonable to you to expect that.

And you compare Griffin to WB, and infer that WB would offer a more expansive attacking style. Did you see St George for the past 3 years? Have you seen the same 2nd man play repoduced across 3 clubs? WB is a grinder coach - plays the percentages. Griffin is obviously doing the same by focusing on error free forwrads based football and simple attack which is just about all the Norman, Wallace and Hoffman can offer.

i also had a good laugh at that post of Dexters lol.

Wayne Bennett coaches the most boring playing style out of any coach around. any dragons game from 2009-2011 was just absolutely painful to watch, they were just so boring. even when they were playing teams i liked like the cowboys or titans, i would usually turn the match off by halftime as they werent exciting to watch. before 2009, when Bennett was at the broncos, all we did was one off runs and then kick it, with the same second man play used when we got near their line. thats why lots of us wanted bennett gone - we were in a rut, not improving/evolving, and were easy beats come finals time because how we played in round 1 was how we played in round 26.

i was MUCH happier with our 2010 season than i was with any number of seasons between 2001 and 2008.

Wayne coaches to the type of players he has. He gave his side a free reign in the 90's because he had the cattle to do it. In the mid 2000's we play hard through the middle with little sideways movement becuase we had a massive pack, at St George he had very little creativity in his side so he focused on the strength which was a fit mobile pack that could grind him wins. Now at Newcastle same goes he doesn't have guys that can tear sides apart so he coaches that same way. Because of the 10 interchanges and the fitness levels of the bigger guys less little guys are able to dominate which means the majority of sides play safety first footy now unless you have Barba, Bowen, Thurston or Benji or the like in your side all the sides play much the same type of game.

You can't seriously be rebutting my point about putting the Broncos current form slump into perspective given our 25 years of success by offering South Sydney (!!) and their best 8 weeks in 25 years as a example of the club you'd be less disappointed with?

It's not about 25 years of success, it's about what this squad, once again IMO can do. I don't need someone slapping me on the wrist and telling me how lucky I am to be a Bronco fan. I am not knocking the club or the players efforts just the tactics.
This squad is capable of much better and as far as the second man play that you refer to just about every good side in the league do it in some way, EXCEPT US. I would kill to see us go to that play a few times each game.

As far as I'm concerned the way we are playing is more boring than the way we played under Bennett we are trying not to lose games rather than trying to win them.

Have you seen Newcatle play the last 5 weeks?

And yet you don't criticise Griffin? Can you honestly tell me there is a difference.?

did you see them play the first 15 weeks?

did you see the broncos play last year or the first 10 weeks of this year?

im not criticising him because hes only in his second year, we were 1 game short of the grand final last year, and have had a horrible run with injuries and origin representation this year, along with a hugely noticable drop in form from our halves the last 6-8 weeks.

could we be playing better? definitely. is it all the coaches fault? nope, hes not the one getting tackled with the ball on 5th tackle every second set, and you can be damn sure hes not telling wallace/norman to get tackled with it on 5th. hes not the one missing easy tackles and not putting his hand up to take a hitup.

there is a huge difference because in our 2 years without bennett we have shown more promise in attack and defence than we did from 2001-2008, excluding about a 6 game period at the end of 2006. thats with a lineup FAR younger and more inexperienced, and lockyer in the dying stages of his career. with bennett it was the same old come out flying up top of the ladder, lost 10 games in a row mid season, win a few, then get bundled out of the finals. it was the same thing every single year. griffin hasnt even remotely shown that that is going to happen with him.

if we just continue this slide and miss the finals or just get bundled out without a fight then yes, there might be cause for concern. but you have to remember that this is the first time in, well, ever that the broncos havent had probably the best player in the game in their team. lewis, langer, lockyer.....wallace? we were ALWAYS going to struggle, new coach or 30+ year coach, and it was remarkable that we even made it this far in the top 4.

Nah mate, haven't watched many games this year.

it certainly doesnt seem like you have, pointing to newcastles 5 week form as why bennett is better than griffin, while ignoring the 15 weeks before that where they were the laughing stock of the rugby league world.

Look mate, don't take one sentence out of an entire post and try to make something out of it. It's been your go all along because you just like to make an argument. I'll finish this here BTW.

I disagree that this squad can produce better. Last year's run to the finals was on the back of tries scored from kicks to Jack Reed and Jharal Yow Yeh and of course had D.Lockyer calling the shots.

Attack wise, I agree we've got nothing at the moment. We are great (possibly the best) at the forward meterage and defensively we are the best defending our own line (I saw statistics on that last week). We've got the boring bits down pat.

We are doing the simple things really well, though our halves are really struggling to find points for us. I don't think that means Wallace or Norman are sh*t players, or that we should do something radical.

im trying to have a conversation with you, asking you to explain your side of it, but now youre just trying to take the easy route and pretend that im the one being unreasonable here. if you cant back it up, dont say it in the first place.

Really?

I will criticize and praise the team all I want, if you don't agree then address the posts and say why.

When teams like the Dogs and Souths who have IMO a less talented roster improve during the year like they have and build into the finals like they have and play attacking footy like they are and we don't as a fan I get disappointed.

There is no reason we can't play a more expansive attacking style particularly inside 20 except coaching. Griffin has been hailed as the answer to WB but so far he has proven to be a more boring version .

He has another 5 years to go so I hope for all our sakes we start to play a better brand of footy.
I attend a lot of games each year but I won't pay to see a first grade side run from dummy half and play one off limited rubbish like we have been.

Yeah, and the fatigue from origin that seems to be affecting the other big contributors (Storm and Sharks) and not affecting the teams that have either zero or little contribution to origin (souths and doggies) would have nothing to do with our current situation. Also injuries to nearly all of our back line would have nothing to do with our current attacking problems... very true, it's all Hook's fault.

Also, feel free not to attend, I'm sure all the boys will be devastated that your not there

Agree with this completely except we should be at least trying some set plays. Our halves don't have the skills to create defensive mistakes often enough so why not have a couple of set plays to go to when we get close.
