I was going through the Foxtel EPG and Fox Sports are playing heaps of old Grand Finals this week. Anyways tune in (or set your IQ) at 4am and 10:30am on Saturday for the 92 and 2006 Grand finals

06 I've seen a million times but I'll definitely record the 92 GF and may even watch it late Sunday afternoon...

Re: Classic Grad Finals

Second half of '92 is up there with '06 Prelim as my favourite half of football.

Re: Classic Grad Finals

Loving it.

I've just been leaving the games on in the background and it's cool seeing old faces & moments that I'd almost forgotten about.

Always love my yearly watching of the 06 grand final as well. Enjoy the Hodges finger wag & of course TC being close to death and just annihilating everything in his path.

Re: Classic Grad Finals

by definition the broncos would struggle to get a run in the 'classic gf's' ... apart from 06' they were pretty much all crushing, landslide victories :001_tt2:

Re: Classic Grad Finals

I had the very great pleasure to watch the 92 GF live( I was actually there lol) my mate and I were seated behind the in goal and we watched Renouf run towards us almost the length of the field to score his try...also Alan Cann scored in our faces...paid $150 for each ticket,(got them off the kid in front of me in the line, all tickets sold out as I fronted the counter !!!) shit seats, obscured view and when we arrived at the ground ticket scalpers had plenty of tickets available...at bloody face value 42.50 from memory....scalpers lost a fortune that GF as nobody in Sydney wanted to watch the Broncs play the scumbag Saints....

wish we knew..still,it was fantastic to watch our maiden GF

Re: Classic Grad Finals

awesome ... can't put a price on that sort of thing .. i mean, 20 years later do you miss the extra $110 or so bucks you had to pay to get in ?

But the memories of something like that can never be bought ..

Re: Classic Grad Finals

Money never meant much to me really...only when I didn't have much !The memories will last until I'm old and grey...err hang on..till now

Re: Classic Grad Finals

Fox Sports used to run the classic Grand Finals over the Christmas Break. Spent many a boxing day nursing a hangover, switching between Balmain v Raiders and the first day of the test.

I wish that I would have relished the '06 GF a lot more knowing it was going to be a long time coming before another premiership.

Funnily enough, it was Foran's recent knock on that reminded me so much of the King no-try decision which Storm bleated on so much about. Very similar circumstances, I wonder if BOTD would have been applied.

TBH I still regard the grand final qualifier of 2006 as our grand final that year I don't really rate the 2006 grand final that much from an entertainment perspective. 20-6 down at halftime and the Bulldogs looked like they were home for all money, then early in the 2nd half, Justin Hodges makes a break from a kick return and sends Berrigan through a gap for a long distance try and an amazing display to score the try that lifted the Broncos back into the game and from there the Broncos just kept lifting and never looked like losing, it was like a dagger straight through the bulldogs heart.

Yep, 06 grand final can't compete with some of our regular finals games, even those we unfortunately lose!

However, I still find it genuinely entertaining and the match tells a good story about the old bull vs. the new bull.

It loses steam around the 50th minute mark as both teams are out on their feet just slogging it out. From there, Berro receives a lucky penalty for a high shot when he could have easily been penalised for obstruction. We capitilise on the good fortune kicking the penalty and then from the kick off scoring a brave ad-lib try in the corner.

Re: Classic Grad Finals

The 2 pieces of play from Lockyer the first the linebreak where he ends up scoring and the second the jink and run on the last with a cutout to Tate for a try are perfect examples of why he is the best player I have ever seen play (I don't count Lewis I was 7 or 8 when he was retiring so I can't judge objectively as I am not Broncoman).

Thats fair enough that you consider Lockyer the best, I don't think anyone can really make a judgement on how great a player is without actually seeing them at their peak for real, not just off videos.

Loved in lockyer's book how big Willie was gobbing off about going to another GF lolz

Was in Wayne's book too. Loved how he just managed to fire the Broncos players up.

Have the Broncos scored a better try than the Berro try?

Aside from it being an amazing turning point, what I liked about it was that it was a carbon copy of a similar try they scored around a month earlier against the Dogs. Minus Berrigan's determined finish of course.

It's so hard to find a decent 06 GF highlights video. Wouldn't mind watching some highlights of it again.
