Whitchurch on trial for Broncos vacancy

I don't see the issue.

Whitchurch is a stop-gap option. You pick a player like him because he's physically ready to handle grade while the next batch develop at their own pace.

I don't believe Boyd, Hunt or Gillett were ever dreaded inclusions..

Back when the forum didn't want boyd to come to brisbane? Preference for milford at fullback??

I remember the ridiculous "gillett to q cup" thread..

And i remember the hate for hunt whenever he'd come off the bench..

Even when he was a rookie and going through his sophmore slump fans were ripping into him.

Troll thread - nothing in it.

Because people wanted him to play in the halves, not at hooker.

Troubling from a Broncos development prospective that they haven't got anyone that Wayne would prefer to pick around I would think. Producing a superstar back hasn't happened since Yow Yeh.

I don't remember out being a troll thread at all haha

Eh, not particularly.

The club has turned a corner development wise after a few lean years with the likes of Oates, Kodi Nikorima, Ofahengaue, Molo etc. coming of age. This year we'll see Taylor and Jayden Nikorima make their first grade debuts and I'm sure we'll see a few new faces in the likes of Opacic, Alick etc.

As long as they come through at a steady rate and the club is willing to look elsewhere it isn't an issue.

Troll thread.

It was made by AP..
I don't think it was... can't find the thread though, so the name was probably misspelt.

[EDIT]Well, there you go... Big Pete to the rescue! :takdir:

When Whitchurch is getting a game it is very grim for the young guys coming through. Whitchurch isn't talented he just has size.

It wasn't.

If Whitchurch was considered a full-strength selection perhaps I would be concerned but at this stage he's simply considered a stop-gap option. Those type of players are handy to have in your squad because they can come in for a game, do a job and you don't have to be concerned about them making rookie errors. Considering Reed will only be missing a few games, he's at least worth considering.

Lolwut, the reason everyone is against Whitchurch is because every time he plays first grade he can't catch a ball

With regards to Hunt, I wouldn't class it as hate, generally speaking like Big Pete points out they disliked that he was effectively playing a dummy half role when really his much more effective at first or second receiver, to be fair with hindsight it did really help him defensively. There was however an element here that doubted he was upto the task (and again that wasn't hate) based on what they had saw of him. Problem was they were basing it by and large on the very limited opportunities he even got which were largely during the rep season.

Even if you weren't exaggerating, there's more elements to the game than just handling which Aaron is more adept at.

Oh I agree Peter, I'm just saying, dropping the ball as many times as he has in his limited opportunities would definitely be considered "Rookie errors". Most of them were completely unforced errors from memory as well, which only makes it worse.

True but then you look at Maranta going into 2015, how many people wanted him anywhere near first grade, with a lot of hard work and determination he became a real asset for the side, not that I'm saying Whitchurch will magically do the same, but I think in the present situation he needs to at least be considered for the position, I'd rather judge how he goes during the trials etc then dismiss him outright.

Yeah the article is talking about the trials and the WCC . Does anyone really care who plays.

The temporary nature of the assignment would be more reason to give a rookie a chance in my opinion... give him a taste of FG and see how well he handles it without putting too much responsibility on him.

And if the rookie goes above and beyond, we catch 2 birds with one stone and solve the Reed problem... :aetsch:
