Round 18 Discussion

Eels score to level it up.

Another one of those games when a controversial week leads to a spirited effort. Plus the Roosters being shit helps.

Dropley missed the tackle.

Got confused when they said it was Peni Terepo that knocked on and I was thinking "Isn't he 12?". That's Tepai Moerau, racist.

Jake Friend is the new Robbie Farah. Selfish plays costing his team.

I knew it but still couldn't bring myself to tip Parra.

Fucking poosters.

Parra showing more heart than the Broncos have for two months.

Norman is having a blinder.

That would've been close to being a penalty. Glamour club gets away with it.

Can't beleive that wasn't a penalty

Could this be a bunker special?

Nope. Eels should see this out barring a major clusterfuck.

Ah, ye olde cramp in the last 30 seconds of the game.

Unless you want to hear Robinson whinge, i wouldn't watch the post match press conference.

He will convieniently forget that the Roosters shouldn't have even had the ball, as being dragged back into the ingoal like that has been a penalty for at least 5 years

Or their 19th forward pass in that last set.

I think they allow a bit of leeway when the player concedes like that, a voluntary tackle is against the rules also although never penalised.

I don't understand why teams don't take a field opportunity much earlier in the game. I've lost count of the times a side is 12 in front with 30 odd mins to go and don't score. Much like years ago when taking the 2 early wasn't sexy, taking the 1 early and making the other side score 3 times. It would have to have a psychological effect both ways.

The only explanation I've seen given is that it causes players to switch off.

Since the field goal is typically reserved as a last resort, going for one early sends a message that you're looking for the full-time siren. If you're a coach, I assume you want your players to search for the most amount of points possible and that's where a lot of your resources would be focused during the pre-season and during the week.

Plus field goals are very risky in the modern game. If you miss and it's the 58th minute, you've just handed the opposition a big invite back into your half.

In that situation they usually don't give the players any leeway. because as soon as a defender puts his hand on a player who is on the ground, the tackle in deemed complete ... thus continuing to force him back is a penalty.

to be legally able to force the player back, what the Roosters player needed to do is stand over the Eels player that was on the ground, without putting a hand on him ... if the Eels player does not attempt to get up, it would then be a voluntary tackle. if the Eels player does get up to avoid being pinged for a voluntary tackle, then the Roosters defender can legally force him back into the ingoal.

in this case it was simply a wrong call against the Eels
