Canterbury and Canberra have been slugged with fines by the NRL for salary cap breaches.
Canterbury have been fined $61,474 for breaching the NRL cap by $81,965 last year, with the NRL saying the fine was 75 per cent of the breach amount because the club had self-reported.

Canberra were fined $16,037 for breaches of the second-tier and NYC caps from last year in addition to a $68,073 fine for breaches of the 2015 NRL and NYC caps.

The NRL says the Raiders have a poor record of compliance with salary cap rules having recorded breaches in five of the last six years.
Canberra's chief executive Don Furner said "unforeseen circumstances" were to blame for the variety of breaches over the two years.
"Due to changes to the club's rosters during this period and injuries which forced squad changes, the club was forced to make some unplanned player movements which have forced minor breaches of the salary cap," Furner said in a statement.
He said the club would continue to work with the NRL to manage the salary cap in accordance with the rules and regulations.
"It's unfortunate that we've had to endure these fines, but the club accepts the NRL decision regarding these breaches," he added.
The clubs have five business days to request a review from the NRL Appeals Committee.

Bahahaha!
Hopeless - and the GH reckon we're rorters!

Shit. Hope he's ok. I mean obviously he isn't but I hope he hasn't tried to do anything silly.

Despite him dumping us, I love GI as a player. Such an awesome sight at his very best. Hope he can sort himself out. Seems like a great fella tbh.

GI enters rehab
As concern for Inglis swept the NRL last night, Maroons and Cowboys champion Johnathan Thurston also contacted Hodges to inquire about his Origin and Australian teammate’s welfare.
“I spoke to Greg (last night),” said Hodges, a veteran of 24 Origin matches who retired from the NRL two years ago. “Greg knew it wouldn’t be kept a secret.
“He’s a bit down that it’s out there, he didn’t want everyone knowing, but it was always going to come out because he’s a high-profile person.
“I won’t go into exact details but it’s a bit of everything. He feels lost.
“It’s a bit of footy, it’s his injury and some personal stuff.

“He’s never been in this position, it can be scary to be out with a long-term injury and there’s a lot of expectation on him.
“This is part of his healing process. It’s out there now. He’s an icon of our game and the most important thing is he knows he has great friends and a great family who love him and we’re all there to help.”
Inglis snapped his ACL in the opening game of the season in March and faces a nine-month rehabilitation.
His wife Sally recently moved out of their Sydney home and moved to Queensland to be closer to her family in Brisbane.
The pair own a home on Brisbane’s northside and Inglis was keen to go with her.
However, he was unable to leave Sydney due to his knee rehabilitation and assistant coaching role at the Rabbitohs.
It is believed the stress of living apart, coupled with uncertainty over his future in rugby league, triggered a breakdown which convinced Inglis to seek professional help.
Hodges, who himself battled depression after suffering a major achilles injury midway through his glittering career, said he could relate to Inglis’s personal torment.

“I’m very close to Greg. I know what he is going through,” he said.
“The best thing about it is he’s acknowledging he is going through some dramas and these are the issues that face high-profile people. He is 30 years of age now and you question whether you will be the same player.
“You feel you are letting people down and you ask if you will be able to play again.
“Greg never had to worry about that type of stuff before, a lot of things can impact on players and sometimes it takes one big injury for things to come crashing down.
“The important thing is that the game rallies around him and supports him 100 per cent.”

Queensland coach Kevin Walters last night said: “I am shocked by this. Greg was part of our Origin team last year and he’s a wonderful young man. It’s awful news and my heart goes out to Greg and his family. I hope he gets the help he needs and comes back to the game with a smile on his face.”
The Inglis news came as a shock as some of the game’s greats gathered at Nine’s Origin launch in North Sydney last night.
“I speak on behalf of all Queenslanders when I say we wish him all the best and hope he makes a full recovery,” rugby league immortal Wally Lewis said.
Fellow Queensland hero Darren Lockyer said long-term injuries could often make life tough for a professional athlete.
“That can play havoc a bit with your mind. We don’t know exactly why (with Inglis), but we just hope he comes back better than ever.”

As always happens, wait for the GI to Broncos rumours to start again and the Titans.

Sad to hear about GI. I really hope he recovers from his Mental Illness.

I was thinking to myself that I reckon GI has just realized a field goal is only worth 1 point and his mind is in a complete spin..

Country Rugby League de-register Manu Asoava
http://yi.nzc.am/cHCC47

Anyone know what happened?

deliberately injured an opponent ... basically ending his career.

Asoava has previously had a 2 year suspension for hitting a touch judge (in union i think) and a 3 year suspension for threatening to kill a touch judges family.

What an angry fucker.

Rugby league thug should be banned for life after sickening tackle in Group Six competition
THIS is the rugby league thug with an appalling judiciary record of five years and 45 weeks in suspensions.

A coward who has bashed a touch judge and maimed opponents over a shameful 15-year period.+

His latest victim is a 28-year-old rugby league player and the captain of the Australian mixed OzTag team who suffered an injury described by a veteran official as the worst he had seen in football.

He will never play again.

It was an incident veteran rugby league broadcaster Ray Hadley describes as the most disgraceful he has seen on a football field..

Chris Browne was a 28-year-old footballer for Camden in Country Group 6 up until two weeks ago

Doctors have inserted a 17cm metal plate and screws to fix the ligaments back to his ankle.

Oakdale Workers player Manu Asoava has been suspended for the rest of the season.

But Camden officials have appealed to the Country Rugby League seeking a life ban.

It was the most gutless act you will ever see on a football field.

Browne was chasing a kick downfield when all of a sudden the thug dived at his legs.

Last Monday the judiciary outed Asoava for 15 weeks — the remainder of the season.

Yet it didn’t take into account his previous acts of thuggery, including a threat to kill the family of a touch judge and assaulting another linesman a year later.

The victim works as a groundskeeper at the local school. He is off work indefinitely.

He is considering legal action against the player, Group 6 and the CRL.

“I want to say something but I’m scared because he might come after me,” Browne told the Daily Telegraph. “The words I’d like to say you wouldn’t be allowed to be put in the paper anyway.

“I’m filthy and I’m angry about the whole situation and I don’t want to see the bloke play football ever again.

“What if he’d done it to a younger bloke. At least I’ve had a good run and I’ve done everything in footy. It’s upsetting but there’s not a lot more I can do about it.”

In 2004 Asoava was suspended from rugby league for two years while playing in the Jim Beam Cup for threatening to kill a touch judge’s family.

The following year he was registered to play for the Claymore Rugby Union club and struck a touch judge. He was suspended for three years.

The Group 6 executive officer Stephen Hazelton has defended the decision to allow Asoava to even play in the competition this year considering his prior record.

He said in an email to Group 6 clubs this week: “I don’t want to add to the hysteria of the fairly poor, cheap, journalism.”

Thankfully the NRL is taking the matter far more seriously.

“The injury suffered by Chris is horrific,” said NRL chief executive Todd Greenberg, “I don’t think I’ve ever seen something like it.”

He later rang CRL boss Terry Quinn to ensure the appropriate measures were in place for an appeals hearing. Asoava is expected to be rubbed out of the game indefinitely.

CRL has already cancelled his registration.

Well it has to seriously be asked why he was playing, he has real grounds to sue and win big.

So Joey Johns just described Dugan as a "once in a generation" player. How many "once in a generation" players are in the NRL right now?

There'll be another one next week.

I'm surprised Johns looks anywhere but the thighs and the glutes.
