Matt Lodge Discussion

You have a strong opinion on the matter which is fine, and I doubt many would argue that violence against women can ever be acceptable. But let's say Greenberg drew a line in the sand and de registered him for violence against women, should he also then kick G.I out and any other player ever involved in the same situation? If they aren't going to be hypocritical they should... I agree with your standpoint but I'm not going to wish hateful shit on a bloke like Lodge while I cheer for Inglis in a QLD jersey...
No, I certainly don't agree that violence against certain women is unacceptable. There are times when some bitch deserves it and rightfully gets it.

Excuse me?

What a load of shit.

Hope White is presently cutting a deal with Sportsbet or someone else (there will be a shit load of brands lining up for the exposure that they will get as Brisbane’s major sponser) and then announces that we’ve decided to flick NRMA because of the insurance industry’s reprehensible response to the Qld floods in 2011. Stick their pressure up their arse.

Insurance companies as the moral police of society...that’ll fucking do me.

Just to be fair, IAG (NRMA, Suncorp etc.) were actually very good through the floods. They weren't involved in the "No cover for flood" crap as far as I'm aware.

They had to do this to save their own image. It is what it is, I still want to be sponsored by a decent company with a name like NRMA rather than half the nothing companies that the shit teams use.

I don't want gambling sponsors either. Say what you want about the finance companies, but they're nothing on the gambling industry when it comes to being absolute *****.

Suncorp yes, NRMA no...

I remeber few houses around St Lucia had banners up telling how NRMA did not pay up.

Excuse me?
Really ? Of course there are times when violence is not only okay, it's an absolute must. I can't believe I have to give an example or are you being deliberately obtuse ?

Blanket statements like 'it's never okay yada yada yada' are plainly wrong. Have a little think about it and try and imagine when violence against a woman would be the best option. I can think of three times you'd use violence.

Here's something that the media are completely missing.

All of his past indiscretions occurred while playing for the Tigers, as well as for NSW in the Under 20's. As we've all known for a while, he has done a lot of stupid shit, ranging from simply being a tool (swear words on his strapping), to multiple incidents of endangering others and being arrested etc. Every single one of these incidents were effectively tolerated simply because he was a good player, that the NRL and the Tigers and the NSWRL did not want to lose, all the way up to his NY incident. In effect, he learned that so long as he was a good enough player, he could get away with whatever he wanted.

In contrast, since that incident, and since being given an opportunity to train and play with a Broncos affiliate, he has actively and willingly participated in rehabilitation, counselling, and not only knows that he needs to turn his life around, but wants to. He finally has the opportunity to become a decent, hardworking and respectful member of society. And the Broncos have been there with him wherever the NRL has allowed them to in order to do this, and has been mentored by one of the best ever at turning shitbags in to men, Wayne Bennett.

Should the media be looking at the latter and considering that, should this never have happened, Lodge could very likely have just slinked back to Sydney, felt sorry for himself, and continued to deny his issues and keep on acting like a fuckwit? In fact, he almost did - didn't he want to just give it up, become a labourer, and put rugby league behind him (aka, stay out of the spotlight where his behaviour did not attract as much scrutiny)? Therefore, shouldn't Lodge's story not only be considered a successful redemption story, but the epitome of what redemption is all about? His redemption won't be considered a success simply because he goes on to play X number of NRL games, it will be judged on how well he can turn his life around and choose to be a better man. If the media are intent on pretending to be moral bastions, shouldn't they be supporting Lodge in his rehabilitation?
Wow, totally agree.......with Morkel. WTF ?

Opinion: Crucifixion of Matt Lodge needs to stop

Des Houghton, The Courier-Mail
March 19, 2018

PREMIER Annastacia Palaszczuk has damaged her own credibility by attacking the Brisbane Broncos and lecturing them about the behaviour of rugby league’s latest bad boy Matt Lodge.

For years and years and years Ms Palaszczuk has watched the unlawful and thuggish behaviour of militant unions and said nothing.

Indeed she has given them succour. She has spoken at their rallies and changed the laws to empower them to enter to enter private building sites and continue their intimidation.

While Ms Palaszczuk remained silent, the courts, the parliaments and a royal commission recorded endless cases of union violence, intimidation and extortion.

She has no right now to claim the moral high ground on bullying and thuggery, and nor does her IR Minister Grace Grace.

Over the weekend Ms Palaszczuk said she was disturbed by reports of domestic violence claims from his ex, primary school teacher Charlene Saliba.

“I found (the reports) quite disturbing ... they are serious matters that the Broncos need to address”, she said.
Frankly, the Premier should keep her nose out of Bronco business.

Lodge’s misbehaviour, it has to be remembered, happened long ago when he was a much younger man.

He has been condemned for it. But must he be condemned over and over and over again?

The persistent attacks on Lodge are starting to look like a modern day crucifixion. Lodge was not the first football bad boy and he wont be the last.

I was disappointed to see the Broncos’ sponsor NRMA Insurance weigh into the debate with a mealy-mouthed condemnation of the player.

If Lodge is forced out it will be time for Broncos supporters to consider boycotting the insurer.

Lodge might not know it, but he is in a good place right now.

Coach Wayne Bennett, part philosopher and part social worker, has turned around the fortunes of many troubled you men.

Bennett is already having success in reshaping Lodge’s character by teaching him about fair play while channelling his aggression for a more noble cause.

So let’s get on with the game.

Thought I'd post this article, even though it is from a political columnist (who is having a dig at Palaszczuk)

He makes some good points about the Lodge situation (and Palaszczuk as well, lol)

Kudos to saying something you are going to get flamed for. Didn't Ben Teo give that woman a smack in the face because she needed one and everyone was fine with that?

nope ...

Ben Te'o was investigated by police, stood down by his club and 1 year after being cleared, he claims fans were still sledging him about it

Why do they all keep saying these things Lodge has done are things the Broncos need to address. As was brilliantly said earlier, they were done at a time when he wasn't a Bronco so why do we need address them.

Why don't these cockwombles in the media actually give the club some praise and credit for helping a young man turn his life around for the better?

100%

What the media are doing is muddying the waters. They are being coy about the details so that the average idiot that reads the headlines and not the article think "Oh wow he has done it again, rub him out". These aren't new allegations FFS.

This is an all out assault by the media. We should be discussing and celebrating a great victory but they don't want to upset Thurston and they are determined to destroy us so now we have muck racking and continued bullying of Lodge.

In my opinion we as a fanbase have to take the siege mentality too. In regards to the media and fans you are either with us or against us. It is as simple as that.
