Australian Cricket Team admit to ball tampering

They're contracted to CA. The same way the Broncos could say you're not going to play for another team in England.

You mean like SBW and the NRL saying he couldn't play union? Come on mate, they can do what they like so long as someone is willing to give them a contract.

So CA could allow them to play?

Seems like an ideal place for them to serve their penance to me.

If CA said don't play get ready for the Ashes and a player said stuff you I am playing. I doubt you would keep your CA contract. it would be very gutsy!

It would be a stupid decision, CA give them more money than the IPL and over a longer period. All their commercial contracts are based on playing for Australia.

I would think next year with the WC and then the Ashes CA will be saying to a few guys you're not playing IPL before we go to England.

CA can set the punishment at whatever they like. ICC have given their punishment. CA weren't obligated to do anything to the three players.

CA have made it nothing but club cricket and the IPL have banned them anyway.

Is challenging your boss and arguing really a smart move when you want to be re-employed?

In Smith's case, yes. CA can't afford to lose the second best test batsman of all time for the Ashes. The mob of outraged media zombies who have bought into this being the worst thing to ever happen on a cricket field will be even more outraged when we lose 5-0 to England in England without Smith.

That's not the point I'm making, nor the one I'm responding to. You said the Broncos / CA could stop a contracted player from signing a contract somewhere else, and it's not correct. They can do whatever they like, so long as someone outside of CA will sign them on a contract. IPL, England, whoever, are not bound by CA and their rules. They can choose to enforce them as IPL has, but they don't have to.

Yeah I get that IPL is a no go. I think it's a mistake to not allow them to play county though. Could be a handy leg up for us come next year.

No, making them play club cricket is the go. They can cop all the shit Joe public has to sledge them with.

They will have to look people in the eyes and deal with it

Disgusting that even when they were "coming clean" they were lying. Saying it was tape and not sandpaper.

personally i reckon it's a great punishment, and the players would be foolish to challenge it - as 1910 has already said, what are they gonna do? win the case and then CA can say oh that's cool well, i think we'll go with other options for the next 12 months MINIMUM.

don't bite the hand that feeds, cop it like a man and move on.

His suspension is over by the Ashes. If he's not back that's on him too.

Can't punish someone thinking how can we prosper from this. He has to sit out and going to England living in London and earning money is hardly punishment.

BBC News (here in Asia at least) is running with a story that Warner is looking likely to run an appeal. Make of that what you will. No official sources named in the story though.

This is where I think CA are overstepping. How can they rightfully stop someone from earning a living.
Sure, ban them from representing Australia but not from plying there trade elsewhere. That has **** all to do with CA.

I keep saying it, CA are beating there chests and flogging these guys because the know they were asleep at the wheel.
They are shit scared they will be flushed out of their highly paid jobs.

Bancroft giving a press conference now. He's reading from a script.

Gotta say, it is refreshing to see Bancroft is actually sorry, both Sutherland and Lehmann looked so fake in their interviews.
