OFFICIAL Bellamy extends contract with Melbourne Storm

I'd say if it were possible, these sides would want Bennett in this order:

1. Bulldogs
2. Eels
3. Raiders
4. Sea Eagles
5. ...Cowboys

The biggest one would be the club just down the road from Brisbane and if he goes there we will suffer big time. He will drag all our promising juniors down there to play for him and he could sell the Gold Coast to QLD talent.

All the talk seems to be that Bellamy is the best credentialed coach in the NRL

Perhaps I am a hard marker, but all I see is a bloke that cheated to assemble his roster, can't win shit without the greatest hooker of all time, and failed at origin

If he was to come to Brisbane, my hope lies in the possibility that he will make some selection changes, such as giving a young guy a crack at the 7

He may well be a success, but he is still a risk

How do the gc have the cap space to go after blokes like TPJ though? They just signed Boyd on like 700k, re-signed Wallace on 700k, Taylor is on over a mil, etc. Bird’s 700k is apparently enough to **** our roster over, yet the titans can keep throwing cash around like they’re Russian oligarchs?

Edit:

I would be worried if Bennett went to the raiders, they have money to spend.

Just read an article saying that Bennett said he would coach against the Broncos again and has already received multiple offers from clubs over the last couple of weeks.

Sayonara uncle Wayne.

Link? Any quotes from Bennett?

Same way we had money to spend we he returned to the club. He got rid of the dead weight at the club

So he’d have to sell off players on massive overs and have 500k-1mil unused on the cap?

First of all can I just say there is a part of me that can't quite believe we're sitting here again talking about a post-Bennett era. I didn't think this conversation would be happening for at least another couple of years. Alas, sadly people cannot live forever, and Wayne is well and truly becoming long in the tooth when it comes to coaching.

As for his replacement being Bellamy, well it's no secret what I think of that. I'm really not happy about it. I couldn't give a shit if the media want to blow smoke up his ass, his supposedly solid gold reputation is at best on shaky ground when you actually dare to look deeper than the surface, and who expects the rugby league media to do that?

First, his style while successful is truly horrible for the health of the game in general. Sure winning games is great, but if that makes watching the game itself a frustrating chore, then what really is the point? Bellyaches wrestlemania tactics are a blight. Always have been, always will be and anyone who thinks he won't bring that shit here are kidding themselves.

Secondly, god damn it is truly astonishing how short peoples memories are. Half of Bellamy's reputation as a coach is built on a monstrous lie. What people like to refer to as his "dynasty" now sits in the history books of the game as one giant asterisk. Stripped of 2 premierships, multiple minor premierships and the single worst case of bringing the game into disrepute that Aussie sport has ever seen, rivaled only by Essendon's drugs saga. And people are naive enough to try and throw Bellamy a bone that he had no idea the worst salary cap rorting in Aussie sport was happening under his nose. So you coach a side with the likes of Slater, Cronk, Smith, Inglis and Folau all in the one side and you don't know there is shady shit happening? Give me a fucking spell.

For those who are welcoming this news with open arms, I admire your optimism, I really do, and I wish I could borrow a bit of it, but nothing about this situation smells good to me. Many would argue what we saw on Saturday at AAMI Park is the real Craig Bellamy; rudderless and sulky without Cameron Smith leading the troops on the ground, and if and when he comes to Brisbane, he will be well and truly on his own for the first time in his coaching career.

I'm not so worried about Wayne at the Titans. He's shown with Bird and Boyd that he is prone to paying overs for average players. He's also shown with Nikorima that he can send a halves development backwards.

Hell it might even result in Taylor coming back!

He's also shown the complete and utter opposite to be true too, over far, far more years. Woeful comment.

That came directly from Bennett. Can't find the article right now, but it was written by a journo called Glover I think.

The thought of Bellamy at our club makes me nauseous.

I have a lot of respect for what he has achieved in the past. But he's deluded if he thinks he can coach the Broncos forever with the recruiting mistakes he's made over the past couple of years and the way we are playing this year.
Getting Bellamy may not be such a bad thing. However the biggest issue I see currently with the Broncos is their recruitment. I know the head coach oversees the entire process but surely the recruitment team should be held accountable. My understanding is that they are all ex teachers with limited Rugby league playing or coaching history except at school boy level. It needs a thorough clean out. Obviously Bellamy has a recruitment system and team that works.
In his head he was coaching the Broncos well into his 70s I believe. But the way we are travelling that isn't going to happen.

Getting Bellamy would a massive coup by Paul White.

CALL Wayne Bennett what you like but one thing he has always been is a fighter and in his press conference on Wednesday the super coach made it clear he’d be going out on his own terms.
That may or may not be with the Broncos, with Bennett revealing he wasn’t yet ready to start thinking about retirement while he still had the hunger to arrive at work at 5.30 in the morning and leave at 9 o’clock at night.
Bennett was adamant that his approach to a decision on his future would be “club first” but didn’t rule out a contract extension to keep him at Red Hill beyond 2019, the last year of his current deal.
That depends on a range of factors.
First, Craig Bellamy has to decide whether to re-sign with Melbourne or take up the Broncos’ offer to move north in 2020.
If Bellamy’s future is in Brisbane, Bennett will have to decide if the coaching bug inside him is enough for another move away from his home city and the challenge of leading a club without the high-powered resources he has at his disposal at the Broncos.
Already, says Bennett, there is more than one offer on the table and coaching against Bellamy’s Broncos into his 70s is a genuine possibility.
His preferred option though, is to sign another contract with the Broncos.
“I will (continue coaching) if I’m in good shape and I’m where I want to be,” Bennett said.
“I’m going to make that decision about me. There’s no one who will be more honest about me than me.
“There’s no one knows me better than me. I’ve never lied to myself and I’m not going to do it now. It’s not going to happen on my watch.
“If I’m being a bit sensitive about it I’m putting the club before me, that’s what I’ve always done and nothing is going to change.”
If Brisbane decides the time for a future without Bennett starts in 2020, the seven-time premiership coach is open to all offers that will keep him in the NRL.
A stint in England, however, will not be entertained.
Asked would he coach against the Broncos again, Bennett replied: “Yeah I will ... I don’t want to, but if that happens I will consider that.
“I’ve already had a couple of offers. The door is not closed on me.

“I want to stay (at the Broncos), I want to work here, but also I want to do the best thing by this club.
“I won’t coach in England. I’m not interested in coaching in England.
“I love the national team, I love working with those guys, but I’m not going to coach in England.
“I’ve had a couple (of NRL clubs) call me up in the last couple of weeks.
“They just let you know they’re interested and you’ve got to make a decision on whether you’re interested.”
Defiant as always and determined to go out on his terms.

Just as massive as your dislike for him
I've been critical of his decisions for a while but I'm really starting to outright dislike him. If he just came out and said something like:
"The club have decided to pursue him. I'm disappointed but I understand it's a business and I will continue to do the best I can as long as I'm here."
A lot of people, including myself, would have been 100% behind him. But no, it had to be:
"I want to stay here and I feel I still have a lot to offer but just in case my health takes a turn for the worse, I suggested the club pursue Bellamy about a month ago."
(Long after the rumors the club was pursuing him surfaced.)

The guys ego is massive!

He’s not a miracle worker.

I see your George Rose and raise you a Sam Kasiano.

I mean you can't credit Bellamy with making Cronk though. Dude is incredibly skilled, his short kicking game and general game IQ is off the charts. Apparently he is one of the fastest in recent memory over 40m too so he has electric acceleration. Just last season there was an article on how Billy Slater had increased his top end speed in his 30's by changing his running technique, the Storm head trainer said Cronk was the fastest in the team over 40m, I mean and that's last season.

I just can't see how we can give all the credit to Bellamy for making Cronk one of the most skilled and fastest players off the mark in recent memory? Do you we give him all the credit for turning Slater and Smith into arguably the GOAT players at their position too? Nah, maybe he can be credited for creating a system which plays to their strengths and that in itself is huge but he is not the reason Cronk is such a good player, that dude just has a great talent and work ethic.....anyone remember a few years ago when he took a trip to USA himself to do altitude training in the off-season before the club pre-season training had even begun? Well.....that in itself speaks volumes when a lot of players turn up to pre-season over weight. Theres a reason Slater, Smith and Cronk are all great players into their mid 30's....why they were the 3 best players in a premiership, origin and world cup winning team last year and it is not because of any one coach, it's because they have the work ethic that only the greats of any sport have.

Anyway hope Bellamy is only coming if it's with Waynes blessing personally as an outsider looking in.
