Finals Week #2

So the only team left we haven't beaten is the storm.

Nothing in the Inglis tackle imo

The way he came down on the back of his head is going to hurt him, IMO.

Plus, I think the timing of it is going to go against him after the whole Latrell incident. But, I also don't recall Inglis being charged at all so perhaps he could escape it if he is charged. I don't think he has carry-over points.

Any team could win it from the bottom 8 this year, this is the one, this is...and its gone.

There was a year (2009?) where Parra was on fucking fire at the back end of the season, made the Grand Final and then lost to the Storm. That was the biggest chance to break the curse, and would have probably happened if not for the Storm fucking cheating.

I'd have to have another look at the G.I tackle, but it looked far less obvious than the Latrell one. And as the studio was saying, even if he gets a Grade 1 charge, he'll be good to play against the Roosters because of his good record. He'll be playing for sure.

I don't think the intent was there like the tackle from Mitchell. No way is he missing any game time

What made my night was the commentary teams reaction after he ran it on the 5th.

Epic lolz

Hunt's play wasn't that bad. He could see that they had the numbers - unfortunately Mann did not pass the ball.

Leave Britney alone. Who gave the Dragons a chance? Especially without Widdop. They overcame losing Sims, Hunt scored their only try, Souths score theirs with a blatant forward pass, they’re LEADING with just a few minutes to go. That’s, what, 30-ish points better than our finals game.

I could understand the bitterness against a player like Norman, but I don’t think Hunt deserves it.

He hasn’t been helped by the Sydney media:

‘the dragons have their controlling halfback now in Hunt’.

Yeah ... no. Add to that the Dragons almost-scripted season where they lead for the first 3 months. His Origin performance was the first glimpse many down there got of his true form. He’s been largely silent since then.

Throw in the million dollar pay check and you have a new city slamming him for not getting them further than usual.

Is Hunt a good player? Yes obviously. Is he a great player? No. He’s good, occasionally great, but will never be consistent enough to win a title with him as the leader of the side. (We had Boyd, Hodgo etc in 15)

I still think Griffin should wear a lot of that by keeping him in the 14 for 2 or 3 seasons longer than he should have and not playing him in the halves. Either for us or a feeder team.

Just watch the highlights and hunt definitely fucked up. He should have kicked but obviously wanted no part in a field goal contest with Reynolds in golden point. So he runs it instead and yes created the numbers but he passed to the wrong person. The fullback swept around the back perfectly and would have linked easily with the centre

It was a low probability play full stop. Agree contributed by Hunt not wanting to face Reynolds in a shoot out but in finals it is extra time now golden point at first. The fact that Reynolds can slot field goals made it imperative to get the ball down the other end with a time wasting kick out or into a corner so Rabbits couldn’t work it up field too much.

Hunt was pretty good otherwise in a game without any halves really looking the goods. He scored a good try to get them in contention. The sort of job a f***ing running 5/8 might do well!

At the end of the day you don’t pay a mill or so a year for a halfback who can’t ice a game. If doesn’t want critique (not unfair criticism I would think) when makes a clutch play like that go to super league on half the pay. He would be a lot better there especially with a Townsend like halfback.

Souths were poor I thought. Looked off maybe distracted with their own off field issues or just flat from week before. Inglis looked a passenger, Johnson didn’t look like what you need from a premiership winning fullback l, halves bereft of ideas and need more consistent effort from forwards. Wonder if it’s his knee but if Inglis gets though judiciary (should be points only) and knee has 2 games at fullback then need to inject him there for at least some of the game.

Roosters coach biggest worry should be overconfidence and maybe a rebound effect from Souths. Looking like Storm Roosters for a fairytale finish Cronk vs Slater... main question is who in Sydney will care?

Looking at the replay, it was a good idea from Hunt. They had the numbers.

If it went through the hands, they have enough support players there to score or at the very least, get tackled deep in Rabbitohs half.

Good idea, Mann fucked it up. I don't think Mann realized it was the last tackle.

That says a lot about the bloke who's running the play and his communication with the blokes he's in control of around him.

No, no, it was an awful idea. It doesn't matter what the chances are, what gaps there were in the defensive line. It's a super high risk play which if it fails, gifts the opposition prime field goal position.

Part of being a halfback with a brain, is knowing when to go for high risk plays and when to take the safe option.

Hunt was absolutely horrible when it counted last night. He literally failed all key moments when the pressure was on.

He's a good 5/8, he's a shocking 7.

The Dragons had to go for the high risk play. They had injuries and a reduced bench, fatigue was setting in, they weren't going to last another 10 minutes against Souths with the momentum Souths had. Apart from Frizell's strip, they were hardly in an attacking position and were struggling to even get out of their end.

Strongly disagree. Hunt has no brain. He shouldn't ever wear a 7 or be in charge of crucial decisions.

Sure you can blame it on Mann for not passing, but he's played like 50 odd games, if you're relying on a new 5/8 to make the right pass with a minute to go in sudden death, without getting a message to him first, then he's even more of an idiot than I thought.
