Broncos Player Movement and Rumours 2020

Canterbury would have been the better example. Possibly Cronulla too, but they've made it work for them.

The Roosters have constantly targeted the best up and coming players in the competition. That's how they brought Boyd Cordner (Newcastle), Latrell Mitchell (Newcastle), Jared Warea-Hargreaves (Manly), Sio Siua Taukeiaho (Warriors), Daniel Tupou (Parramatta), Ryan Matterson (Parramatta), Zane Tetevano (Newcastle), Lindsay Collins (Brisbane), Nat Butcher (South Sydney) & Sean O'Sullivan (Penrith) to the club. The few big buys they made like James Tedesco, Luke Keary & Blake Ferguson were brought into the club with the idea that their best football was infront of them. The only significant buy they made this year where it was all about the present was Cooper Cronk, and looked how that worked out for them.

Regardless, the Titans won't be letting Brimson go.

Yeah, fair. Just would hate to relate the Broncos to the Dogs.

Eels were horrible in recruitment when they bought Watmough, Beau Scott and Foran..

I didn't mention that AJ Brimson is actually a Broncos Junior..

Milford was a player that we actually let go of too and had to buy back for overs.

The common denominator here is the Gold Coast Titans. It's one thing to recruit a Kalyn Ponga who came from a successful club and a great junior pathway like the North Queensland Cowboys, it's another to recruit a Gold Coast Titans player. Kane Elgey was a talented prospect with plenty of upside, but he spent the formative years of his junior career learning how to lose. Elgey did not have the opportunity to learn what it takes to win games and what areas of his game that needed addressing. What be brought to first grade was his ability to shine in a losing team. Kane would get on the highlights reel, and that was enough.

I'm looking forward to Elgey's switch to Manly. I still think he's going to struggle because Manly hate tackling as much as he does, but a change in environment could be exactly what he needs.

In my view, AJ Brimson is a more confident version of Elgey. Brimson doesn't have the skill-set, but he has the attitude required and his versatility makes him a more useful player. For the Titans sake, I hope Phillip Sami & Moeaki Fotuaika can improve as players and change the culture at the club, but there's certainly a hesitance that prevents me from getting too excited about their players.

Maybe it's because the Broncos poach the best prospects before the Gold Coast get a say?

Brimson was never a Broncos junior. Will Brimson was, AJ was from the area (or at least moved between Brisbane and the GC) but ended up at the Gold Coast as an Under 16s.

Milford was a Souths Logan product when they were affiliated with Canberra.

Ponga was the one who got away, but he was 15 at the time and wanted NRL level assurances. The Cowboys ended up taking a risk and they got burned for doing so. Reading the story about how Ponga ended up at the Knights, his camp sounded like a nightmare to deal with.

Pretty sure Broncos sign just about every kid in Queensland when they're 13 years old.

Just got to question whether that makes it difficult to sort them out from best to worst. We're kind of like hoarders.

The Broncos do have a bigger junior base than most, but it doesn't happen the way you think it does.

So when are we going to face the reality of having to choose a coach for 2020?

Who are we thinking?

The names that come to mind are

Michael McGuire
Anthony Seibold
Kevin Walters
Jason Demetriou

Any alternatives you'd like to see?

Could go left field and pick the walker brothers in spite of Bennett. They would be the polar opposite..

You not been around recently? We've been discussing 2020 coaches for at least the last month. Seibold & Maguire are the clear favourites & front runners, very few people want anyone but one of those two.

have you been living in a bloody cave or something?

this very forum has been discussing our 2020 coach for over 6 months, when the media started speculating that his contract won't be renewed and started linking us to every available coach in the NRL.

the discussion went into overdrive less than a month ago, when the club officially announced that we would be searching for a new coach for the 2020 season

DCE is under contract for another 6 years ... We can't throw cash at him
Yeah fair but there’s no such thing as being tied to a contract these days you can just leave whenever you want

that is not true at all ... NRL contracts are still legally binding contracts.

just look at what happened when $BW walked out on the Bulldogs ... the sort and were granted and injunction to stop him playing another code in another country. in fact it cost him a reported 750k to get that official release from the Bulldogs to play with Toulon

the NRL will never register a contract with us unless Manly officially release him ... in fact, while we can talk to him, we are not even permitted to offer him an official contract for another 5 years (unless Manly give us permission)

Add to that the fact Manly would not be paying a cent on his $1.3m a year contract so for Cherry to leave it would have to be mutual where both parties agree to void the contract.

No way does Cherry leave that kind of guaranteed money on the table.

The Mole is tweeting that Pearson to the Drag Queens is done.
