NEWS Brisbane fighting Warriors for David Fifita

Offa is the reliable work horse who just puts his head down and gets his job done.

Also gets lazy in defence and offers nothing in attack. Should be first to go.

There is a lot more to what you hear in the media regarding our current salary cap position..... Lots going on.

So you're saying we have enough money to re-sign Oates, Fifita & Glenn and sign a new Fullback? 🙃

Its not the ability of the player i'm talking about though, its the cost. I agree every player you mentioned is capable of being solid at least, but they wont come cheaply. Flegler isnt on huge money i dont think, but the others are on decent coin. What i'm talking about is sort of a slightly watered down version of what Melbourne seem to do. They have the top liners, but then they back them up with just solid, cheaper players who get the job done. ( Blokes like Norrie, Hinchcliffe, Green, Koribete or currently, Kamikamica, Olam, Blair and Seve ). Some of them do well and get better contracts but they just seem to replace them with a similar player ( Koribete replaced by Addo-Carr for example ).

Completely see what you are saying.

However, Milf is off contract soon, Boyd and Macca to go. There 2 million there alone. We have replacements for them already inside our cap. Gillo drops off in 2 years also. Thats another 600ish and there a fair few more in the pipeline to replace him.

I think in 4 years time though we will have some issues, but this where where the club has to start working hard driving these guys with good TPA like the rooster do. This will help us to maintain a lot of these guys without upgrading them huge amounts to keep instep with the cap. The cap also will rise by another 500-1mil in the next 3 years.

The good balance seems to be relative budget on the backs, solid spending in the halves and solid spending on 4 big guys in the forwards. Im comfortable with the current spending - to me it looks like they are doing their job and is very different to how it was position wise the start of last season. As to current cap dollar condition - zero clue as that's really insider info.

Geez it’s tough to get it all right, all the time though. I’d have to say that we are in a much better position now, than what we were 12-18 months ago.

Locked up all the young guns(and Fifita still with a year to go)
Not a bad position to be in, with Boyd and others nearing the end. I’d say the recruitment and retention team have things right where it’s needed to be at this stage.

Still have more young guys pushing through too, the production line is deep at the moment.

Yep, its not easy. I'm still not totally convinced we have the balance right, but as long as we can keep the crucial ones its a good platform to keep building from.

So sounds like Fifita and Oates locked up. Fantastic news. Now just Staggs to go really.

Staggs will also stay
How confident are you with Fifita staying? I read a quote (yesterday or Friday) from his manager basically stating that he will go to market come Nov 1, purely because he has multiple clubs enquire about him, suggesting there will be a bidding war for him. Roosters were also mentioned in being linked to him - no surprise there.
Could obviously be scare tactics from his manager, but still a little worrying.

Don't forget Flegler.

I love Flegler too but he isn't a priority. Lock up Fifita, Staggs and Oates and see what is left over for Flegler. Given the Broncs have Lodge, Haas, Carrigan and Joffa locked up to play in the middle, Flegler might be the one squeezed out if he doesn't want to stay for under what he is worth.

To be honest the media and the league are terrified of what this team can be in the next 2 -3 years if it stays together. They are putting in overtime putting out figures. The amount of negative comments is deafening. The idea that Brisbane can get out of the also ran category is just a little too much to take for the souther pricks.

These boys have a chance of making a dynasty and if they just realise it they will stick together. The money will come with the success. Chasing short term money from the eels, knights or Warriors will not land you a ring.
