NRL - 2019 Grand Final

He also gave plenty of notice prior to the tackle that it was the last.

Don’t get me wrong, it was a shit call that absolutely needs attention to to the 2 ref system, but one call (that was ultimately correct) doesn’t decide the game. Too much whinging.
It wasn't the ref's fault that the Roosters marched 80 mtrs downfield to score the winning try. They did call six again initially and should have stuck with the decision but they didn't hence the uproar. It certainly didn't determine the outcome of the match. Onto next year.

I really don’t get all the outrage tbh.

I enjoyed the game for what it was and the better team on the day won.

Sometimes I think fans can’t watch footy without participating in the outrage culture.

Usually I’d agree with you because I do think the commentators, media and fans spend way too much time blowing up about the refs (I wouldn’t be surprised if the commentators are told to bang on about it during games given the way they act). But I’m pretty disappointed with tonight’s effort.

I have more of an issue with the trainer earning his team another set than the 6 again call, but they were both shockers.

In hindsight, if it was called last tackle originally, the raiders would have had to get a snap kick in hoping for a restart. Then they’d have to work their way down for a field goal. All while under pressure. Still a lot of work to do to say they would have won it.

Has anyone checked on our friends in the green room?

On the Bears vs Jets game.

Fogarty will learn a very valuable lesson. ALWAYS kick the ball out of the play.

Maybe I'm just not seeing it but how did Jack Wighton get MOTM?

When the Raiders were getting over the top of the Roosters, what I saw were a number of very ordinary decisions.

Now I’ve settled down a little and thought about it, it was a huge blunder no doubt but...

I think there was barely enough time to get in a kick and he was smothered so pass under that pressure was unlikely. I can’t prove it but I think Wighton knew it was the last and ran it anyway, then blew up after because he got tackled. Again, it’s a big **** up but in a vacuum it’s not huge. If that happens in the 10th minute no one mentions it again.

Then the Raiders let the roosters score an 80m try.m, off a change over set. It wasn’t a quick tap penalty, or a wrongful intercept or something that makes it hard to defend in the moment. The roosters had to play the ball, after the time Wighton spent blowing up, on their own 10-15m line? You want to win a grand final you don’t let a team run the whole
length of the field.

Yeah it fucked the momentum but the raiders threw everything they had for 20 minutes and couldn’t get the job done. They looked so unlikely to actually score that even as someone cheering for the raiders I caught myself thinking “5 more minutes of this and they can attempt a field goal”.

Raiders lost that game.

He had more than enough time to put in a kick and he said he was going to do that but then he saw the ref wave 6 more and heard the Raiders players screaming at him to take the tackle so he dummied and took the tackle. He didn't hear the call from the ref, none of the players did.

Yes the refs made a mess of that situation, but if we are breaking it down into ref errors, in the 2nd half alone, there was a penalty given to the raiders for a rake (hand on the ball), which led to cronks 10 mins (which i dont think was worth the sin bin) several tackles later and 2 points, a clear knock on by crocker near the sideline that was ignored which led to repeated sets of 6 etc.

Unfortunately ref stuff ups are part of the game and the roosters just happened to capitalise on the error that went their way.

SST's arm knocks the ball free. Harsh call with the sin bin, but technically a professional foul.

The Croker knock on, you referring to when Cotric offloads the ball back to Croker and it comes off Croker and goes forward and then he regathers and passes it back in-field before going out? If so, he doesn't knock it on.

I do agree today's commentators (particularly since the rise of gould) and media perpetuate the whinging about incorrect calls.

I have watched some 80s, 90s games recently and if the ref stuffed up it was, make a comment on it and then move on. There was one particular call i recall, in origin a kick across field landed perfectly in willie carne's arms who scored but was called offside. The replay indicated he was onside by about 5m, the commentators, just said "thats a bad call" and moved on.

That’s how I remember it.

The way I see it you can't re-neg on a 6 again, it's unfair on the attacking team as they can't get enough time to react, it's one of the calls you have to stick to once called.

I'm not a big fan of the whinney Raiders coach but him, his team and all the Raiders fans will be suffering through their own private Black Monday today.

Our great game has been reduced to farce. Yesterday was supposed to be its showcase day. Instead, what was served up ensured even more fans turned off for good.

We're haemorrhaging badly and like climate change, the ones chasing the big dollars either can't see it or refuse to acknowledge it.

That last roosters try was pretty brilliant though under the circumstances. It’s stuff the broncos can only dream of right now.
