What Badel "learnt:"

It’s a trial and we looked promising when our main guys were still on there. It’s a trial, some people need to take a deep breath.

Also, let’s see Tanah Boyd play well for a period of time and not just against our reserve grade rabble before we crown him the next Kane Elgey or Ash Taylor.
 
I fear Milford might be going the way of Roberts. He's just clocked off.

The widely received wisdom that we had to import a playmaker to take the pressure of him having to think should've been a flashing red light that he's a very limited player.
 
I'd happily replace Milf with somebody like Matt Burton from Penrith. That kid is going to be a star

The biggest problem with milford is defence. He still grabbing players instead of tackling them.

I hate to admit it but I have to agree. We are not playing and or defending as a team. I don't subscribe to ‘i‘s only a trial' we've had many weeks of preseason to see some semblance of team manifest itself. We look so
uncoordinated, uncomfortable and dare I say it - uncoached.

Consistent application is Milford’s biggest weakness in his overall game.

He chopped a forward in half by himself with a textbook legs tackle, but then looks like he’s playing touch football defence inside our 20
 
Some initial takeaways.

Positives:
- Bird looked good at the back. Sniffing around the middle, supporting the forwards. Something we haven’t had since Hodges had his stint at the back. He also looked pretty well organised and engaged in the play when we were defending.
- Croft looked sharp and switched on and will get better in a new environment with time.
- Ofahengaue looks like he might finally be living up to his potential.
- Fifita is still a very damaging ball runner, just need to use him better.
- Carrigan was great in play but also showed why he is earmarked as a future leader.

Negatives:
- Isaako looks lost and mostly useless and ineffective in attack and defence at fullback, and was awful on the wing last year. Not sure he really has a place in the team anymore.
- Lots of people harping on about people scapegoating Boyd, but honestly, what does he bring that any one of our other outside backs couldn’t?
- Per above; I can’t understand why Arthars was brought on at right wing when he looked good at left centre last week. At least give him a chance to prove he’s better than Boyd.
- Staggs has been well short of the player he was last year.

Switzerland:
- TPJ
- Oates
- Milford
- Haas
- The overall use of the bench and quite a few players playing out of position. Why trial them in positions they’re probably not going to play?

I’m sure there are other things, but that’s all I can think of now.

Oh, seemingly no injuries is another positive.
