Broncos Player Movement and Rumours 2020

I doubt Milf is gonna want to move on right when the pressure of carrying the sides spine operations has been lifted from his shoulders. My mind wanders back to that classic Milf try he scored against Souffs in Round 2. That was the first time I've seen Milf actually enjoying his footy in a long time, and unless he's dense, he can see that we're heading into another premiership window very soon as well.

he'll stay put, probably on around the same money.

Milford won't go anywhere and I'll be disappointed if we offer him anything over 600k.
He hasn't given us value for his apparent $1mill p/yr.
We have Dearden and Croft a bit longer term, I think they're more than capable of providing for us in the halves if need be.
600k or nothing imo.

Really doubt he is going to want to leave Brisbane and there is no way he doesn't take up the option for that amount of money.

I want Milford to stay, not only because I like him but also because he deserves the chance to prove what he can do when he doesn’t have to carry the entire Broncos attack.

And there is no doubt that on his day he is a match winner.

But Darren Lockyer he is not. If he wants to play contract games, I hope we don’t stand in his way.

If he wants to play games just pull the offer and tell him to pack his fucking bags.

He’s had three years of being the main man and he’s proven to be ducking useless at it.

If he wants to resign immediately for less money then he can stay.

you do realize all player managers source offers for their clients right? that's their job.

i hope you also realize that ALL players also consider the offers that their managers receive ... even the great one club players like Darren Lockyer.

all managers also always talk up their clients in the media, to try and get as much money as possible for their clients.

that article has zero quotes from Milford himself, so there is no way to know what he's thinking ... hell, the journo probably didn't even talk to Milford

Why would he re sign immediately for less money when he could just take up his option for the same money?

dunno why people are getting there knickers in a knot over milfs manager doing what he is paid to do.

I think going forward the cap and those million dollar player contracts wont be common any more. Milf does have an argument he didnt have a partner in crime and was being used for the wrong job the past couple of seasons. I had heard Dragons were prepared to throw 700+ at him, however i doubt he would even be interested in going to that basket case. We should be able to lock him up in the 600-700 range.

How can the dragons have anymore money available to throw at spine players... they've already got Hunt and Norman on massive overs.

I'd imagine their intention is to play Norman at fullback, but I'd say that is a poor decision... Norman looks a more complete halfback than Hunt and may be a good foil for Milf, but that leaves Hunt on the outer who is on a contract that no one would pick up.

They also just signed that Lomax on a 5yr deal, which I would imagine is on far too much to be paying a center

No idea how they would shuffle it, that was the word from a Sydney journo.

It's an awful time to be negotiating a contract when you don't have a huge amount of recent runs on the board, be that with us or with any other club. That's before you consider what relocating your family in the current climate would actually involve.

I think with so much uncertainty Milf would be crazy to be looking too seriously at his options elsewhere if Brisbane are still prepared to table a reasonable offer.

we don't need to table an offer ... his decision is whether to sign with a rival or activate his option with us.

the report also said that we were in the box seat as the unnamed rival clubs weren't prepared to table a million dollar contract for him.

then there is the clause that the NRL require in any new deal about what happens to the contract value should the salary cap change (i.e. decrease due to the current climate)

Yes of course, I understand that, but what I'm saying is that before he turns down any rival deal for a longer term just to activate a one year extension with us, you'd have to assume his agent is going to be looking for some sort of guide and assurances around what Brisbane can offer him beyond just the one season. If he isn't, then Milf really needs to get a better agent.

That's what I'm thinking. He'll be wanting security for his family and if the Broncos aren't yet willing to extend his contract beyond the option, a 3+ year offer from another club may sound enticing, even if the yearly salary is less than whatever the option year with us is priced at.

Both parties have some big decisions to make.

Yep, this 100%

For a guy like Milf who's career has been mostly on a downward trajectory in recent years, a 3-4 year deal at $800k might prove tempting if the Broncos are unable to provide him with a similar level of certainty around what they might be prepared to offer.

To be honest, 2020 was always going to be the year a huge call had to be made by both parties. It's just unfortunate for everyone that circumstances dictate that they'll be making an even bigger gamble now because we don't have the benefit of any football under his belt to help either party inform their decision.

I think most players looking to sign a contract extension will want some more clarity around the salary cap in the future.

Milf having another year to run, at poentially his peak contract value, will be handy for him to let the salary cap clear up and get an idea where his current $1m deal lands in a revised lowered salary cap world
