I say he'd be a better coach now with a lot better take on things. He was probably a bit raw earlier on but he's a much steelier character than his jovial outer shell might suggest. I remember him being interviewed after a match years ago during a rough Broncos period and he was put on the spot by a talking head.

He responded to the anal probe with "it's on again next week" and I loved that. It showed that even after being buttfucked he knew redemption was possible and that's all that mattered. The 'I get knocked down but I get back up again' attitude. I was proud of him and the club.

He seems like a good leader and would probably get the boys fired up to play each week. Maybe that's what our young squad needs? Having a smart, calculated coach certainly certainly isn't working for us atm.

Hook gets too much credit.

He weathered the post-Lockyer storm, but even so the Broncos should never have gone through a year like 2013 and a lot of the players he brought in had nothing to do with the strong win percentage under Bennett. Barba, Kennedy, Vidot, Garbutt were nowhere to be seen. The only players he brought in was Milford and Ofahengaue and neither of them played under him so it remains to be seen how they would have gone without Bennett's coaching. Given Hook's track record, I doubt they would have played any better, most likely they would have been worse.

Hook was a really good coach in QCup and 20s, outside of that he struggled to match it with the best coaches in the game.

Henjak was far worse imo, though Seibs is definitely in that territory and potentially going to be worse by the time he leaves.
Henjak was only around for two years though. That is where the rot started though give or take four years where the team was at least competitive. Mismanagement and incompetence over the years has led to the hopeless position they now find themselves in.

I wonder if Milf would have been better off long-term under someone other than Bennett who totally botched Milf's development.

You can't say definitively Griffin had little to do with it, a lot of that side he developed. How much did Bennett add on top? I'm also not saying you can't give Bennett credit either. I'm also not saying Griffin is the key long-term but what I am saying is that he got that side in the right direction and he got the Panthers pointed in the right direction too. I don't really care if someone comes in later and takes them the extra step he might not have the ability to do. Right now they are 1000 steps away from that extra step.

What's the common denominator for all non-Bennett coaching eras?

Terrible player recruitment and management. Griffin - horrible decisions in recruitment and team selection. Same with Seibold.

Bennett is the only coach who can stand up to whatever influences within the club force such decisions. When he came in, just after every decision made in this area was spot on.

This year, its been like the fans have driven player management and recruitment, and as Bennett always said, if you start listening to the fans, you'll end up sitting with them. I know know if its like the Warriors and player managers have been stirring the pot, or its bee the board and management of the club, but the coach needs to be the main voice in the room for player management and recruitment.

Player management influences culture. Culture influences performance.

Courier Mail is stating that Greenie will be the next Bronco coach. Clickbait perhaps but very intriguing times ahead.

Not the best option in my opinion but definitely not worse than the current bloke. Shame it is more jobs for mates.

It's pure speculation by Paul Crawley, joining a bunch of circumstantial dots to create a conspiracy of perfect timing. If you really want to read it, PM me. I can't post it. In the meantime, here's a poll they're running in it:

That's the gist of the theory behind the story.

I agree, if Milf stayed at Canberra or went to the storm or eels, who know what he could’ve been. The way Barba’s career went to shit under Hook makes me think that Milf wouldn’t have stood much a chance either.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Walters ends up at the cowboys, Green potentially at Warriors or Brisbane.
Not sure what happens if both Walters and Green commit to other clubs, where that leaves us..
Bennett and Bellamy obviously out of the picture, we would legit be fkd.

lol

A lot of the players were actually brought in under Wayne during his previous stint at the club, the few exceptions were under Henjak. Boyd, Hodges, Hunt, Blair, McCullough, Thaiday, Glenn, Parker, Dodds, McGuire, Maranta were all brought to the club under Wayne. Oates, Reed, Kahu, Gillett, Nikorima, J. Wallace were under Henjak. Hook didn't build the roster up and he nearly stuffed it waiting so long to give Hunt his opportunity at 7.

Bennett was opportunistic, the side was definitely better situated in 2015 than what it was in 2012 but that was merely down to getting games into the players.

Penrith were well poised in 2016 after a horrific year with injury. A lot of their juniors were coming of age around that time, but even then Penrith were constantly rebuilding. It's only after they copped a crap season they've been able to move forward.
