Where to From Here? Let's Plan for 2021

Also, first thing tomorrow Nui should be called into the office and if the first words out of his mouth aren’t “I had no idea my dad was going to post that” he should be handed his release papers. Even if a player is great they can’t treat the club like that, and he simply isn’t.

What have I missed here?

Who replaces Paul White?

Honestly, I think this won't be much of an issue if they get someone with a good business mind based around contracts. The club is strong enough to take care of itself as long as the public connection is maintained and hopefully strengthened.

Who is coach?

Keep Seibold as head coach, but seek out a strong full-time defensive and attacking coaches (Cam Smith would be good here and give him a good platform for moving into a coaching role). In this way the division of labour can be handled and the focus should be brought into one by Seibold. I would also look to employ a sports psychologist at intermittent points of the season.

Who are you bringing in for the money the club now has from the Fifita-fail and Boyd's retirement?

Honestly, I think our talent pool is strong right now. Our problem is maintaining structure even with disruption. I was excited when Seibold spoke about rotating the team because I hoped it would mean that training would focus on everyone knowing everyone else's roles and bringing in a stronger structure such as we see with the Storm. (This is why Melbourne players generally look good at the storm but average everywhere else).
My belief is that we should seek to install something more of a democratic workplace where the team decides who deserves the pay but most everyone is on a similar contract. This brings equality, incentives, accountability and a team mentality. Everyone is in the same boat and pulling together. Perhaps increased salaries based on experience, which would be linked to a mentorship program.

If you want to get creative, what are you doing with Milf's or Bird's money?

Honestly, I think these long-term high pay contracts have ruined the game more than our club. I would not be looking to sign big name players with the current attitude at the club. I would seek out fighters. Guys who work and have been good despite never getting huge paychecks. Right now we have Te'o, Lodge and Carrigan, whom I believe lead with this mentality. There are also boys who are trying and getting there too like Niu and Farnworth and Flegler (despite his recent mistakes I have heard he does extras to improve himself)

What else is needed?

What we need now is direction and mental fortitude. Defensively we need to consistently maintain line speed and cohesiveness. In the Storm, Manly and Bulldogs games we had it and lost it. Attack will come. We have the talent. We just need to get the upper hand defensively first. We can't let the heads drop after a few bad calls or bombed tries.

What we need is regimented training. These guys need to be drilled, focussed and hardened and they will be a force. Get a drill sergeant in there and have them locked in and they will absolutely dominate. Right now, this is their melting pot. They are at the perfect time and place to be moulded into a unit. They have the talent, otherwise they would never have made it to first grade. Give them direction, focus, a belief structure and aim them at a target.

Who are you bringing in/Who are you re-signing?

All of our young talent. I worry about Milford, I think he is not mentally in the right place. I'm glad Boyd is going. Although he trying, I get the impression he's having a toxic effect on the team. I think I would let anyone go who wouldn't buy into the team philosophy. I would look to use this youth as an opportunity to recruit back some of the other young guys who have chased the money but have FOMO on being part of something special. These guys have the potential to play some awesome, exciting, fun and enjoyable football. Once they click and when they're drilled they will be world beaters.

you cant keep Siebold...that ship has sailed.....no-one is prepapred to play for him...the dressing room has been lost...etc etc...

I mean, even the interviews that the club do with players.....no-one even mentions the coach, let alone quotes his name....in any of them....

He needs to go....

I think if he gets the right subordinates in then he could easily stay on as head coach. He's been undermined by the players whose paychecks prevent them from suffering consequences.

But that is a massive part of a head coach’s role to stop the rot or cut it out, even if that means hitting heads with some players or administrators. Siebs genuinely looks and sounds too afraid to make such ruthless calls.

I think Alex Johnston has been told to look elsewhere. He is a really good player and versatile. I’d be happy for him to get a crack at fullback if we lose bird and don’t sign anyone else. Not the cheapest player going around but wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg though.

I didn't realise he was only 25 years old.

His versatility would be a huge asset for us. As long as he's not asking for crazy money I think he would be a good player to set an example for the likes of Farnworth/Coates/Arthurs/Niu etc.

I’d actually hold onto our money. Keep a few depth guys on minimum contracts, but there is always some roster movement post-season or early season and there could be a quality player looking to make a move.

There will be a few new coaches who may be looking to cull rosters and there is a chance to pick up some talent before or just after next season starts.

so....ive waited for someone else to mention these as potential avenues for the club to explore but no-ones posted them yet...

and again, just my thoughts here....

1. We should definetely be instructing a number of off contract players to go and test the market. **** me wont they be in for a shock! We can tell them that the club have a figure in mind but encourage the player to test the market, then feel free to come back to us and we will discuss whether we will match or offer more etc..

Im sick to death of being dictated by these useless scrubs; nothing they have done this year allows them such latitiude. THIS IS THE BRISBANE BRONCOS.....we need to start acting like them again. Farnworth coming out in the press wanting his future sorted ASAP; um yeh....go **** yourself Herb....prove you are worthy of the jersey, of playing here, of the fans adoration....or got to market mate......you are a middling outside back....you are no great loss if you want out...(my opinion yes..?!)

2. The next coach; i starting to form a opinion that the next coach need not be one who we want to guarentee a premiership. Rather we could look to bring in soemone who has virtually no ties to the current playing group. We would then mandate to that coach to dig out the cancers here, re-establish the standards and expectations for everyone who wishes to pursue a career with this club.

It will take a few years, as no-one can expect a club to simply cut loose 12 players at once, but lets face it our window to really make a enormous mark on the player market is in 2022. Thats 2 years to ground the club back to basics and start rebuilding the culture ect..

Again, my opinions, but there is a protoype 3 year plan of ripping out the filth, restart again and allow the salary cap and roster to accomodate as best as possible those 3-4 high marque players we feel we can get.

What the **** are you talking about, from all reports he has re-signed or indicated he will re-sign with us. I'm all for a blowup but singling out one of the few loyal guys in the team seems bizarre.

my opinion......you have yours...fine.....

If he stays ill support him.

What im sick off is being dictated too by bog average players...

Farnsworth was the only recent example that came to mind when i posted that..

Yeah, for sure. We don't know what goes on behind closed doors. The Corona bubble has limited who he can bring into the club along with how much money and time the club can offer to new employees. They just cut staff due to finances. Seibs is under pressure from the press and copping it almost daily. He went from hero to zero almost as soon as he signed with the Broncos, if not as soon as he was rumoured to be interviewing for the job. That is not an easy task for anyone, especially in today's media environment. He's probably the only coach who is both young and under the blowtorch and he has to learn how to play that game too. I think anyone would look shaky under that scrutiny. A lot of coaches couldn't handle that pressure and they were from clubs that get a pretty light roasting from the press. He's at the Broncos, was doing well for the first 2 games with a very young squad, then all of a sudden they changed the rules, crushed the mentality of the team and now he's getting whipped. Anyone would be totally up to their eyeballs with the garbage the media puke out. Then you have old boys at the club stirring the pot, and using their media presence to angle new contracts for your best players (Gordy) and even possibly your job (Kevin). How does anyone really deal with that?

One of the biggest issues at the club, coaching aside, is the strength of our roster. Currently, our squad is imbalanced with too many inexperienced youngsters and too many senior players not pulling their weight or justifying their paycheque. We are lacking depth and are in serious need of some quality and leadership in key positions.

Our massive injury toll has exposed how weak our roster is, but it is something that can be rectified with a cleanout of the roster and making a few astute player acquisitions. We do have a good bunch of talented youngsters, but no one around them for support. Additionally, our depth players are just not ready for first grade quite yet. All the better clubs have depth players that can fill in when required and the team doesn’t even miss a beat.

The most obvious positions we should be looking to spend on are fullback, left centre, five-eighth, backrow, and hooker. There are not many options coming off-contract, but since contracts don’t mean much these days, and with cash in hand if we let go of Milford, Boyd, Bird (and with Fifita leaving), we should go hard at a few specific players who could add what we are missing.

These are the sort of players I would be looking at to fill the voids in our team:

Fullback: Roger Tuivasa-Sheck

The most obvious fullback target, and a player who I think we could realistically have a chance of landing. The Warriors have been perennial underachievers for so long, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. it’s sad to see someone of RTS class and ability do so much for that team, with so little reward. His attitude alone is something our team could do with.

Other options: Alex Johnston / Cody Ramsey / Tex Hoy / Tristan Sailor / Jai Field

Left Centre: Tyrone Peachey

I think Peachey would make an excellent centre full time. He has constantly been used as a Mr Fixit of sorts and no coach has settled on a single position for him. I have seen enough of him at centre to know he would be a welcome addition to our team. He is very much like Kotoni Staggs, and I think a centre pairing of those two would be extremely strong and ultimately would not break the bank. With Fifita moving to the Titans and occupying a backrow spot, maybe we could come to some sort of agreement and get an early release for Peachey.

Other options: Cody Ramsey / Paul Momirovski / Euan Aitken

Five-Eighth: Luke Keary

He is exactly the playmaker we need to partner and mentor Dearden. He is coming into the peak of his career and would singlehandedly turn us into a top-eight team again. Throw all of Milford’s money at him, and whatever else he wants. He is an Ipswich boy and we should do anything it takes to bring him home.

Other options: James Maloney / Blake Green / Kieran Foran

Backrow: Angus Crichton

Crichton is a bit of a misfit at the Roosters. He has spent many games coming off the bench due to them having Cordner and Aubusson. He is too good to be an interchange player. Let him know he would be an 80 minute player in the backrow every week. Having him in the team would lessen the blow of losing Fifita.

Other options: Mitch Barnett / Briton Nikora / Jaydn Su’a

Hooker: Cameron Smith

The Storm are in a bit of a difficult situation. They have to choose between one or two years at most more of Cameron Smith, or the next 10+ years of either Harry Grant or Brandon Smith. Either way, we should be going after whoever the Storm don’t choose. Both Grant and Brandon Smith are excellent players who would add a lot to our team, while Cameron Smith would give us the leadership, class and tactical nous to turn us into a premiership contender.

Other options: Harry Grant / Brandon Smith / Sam Verrills

Coach: Craig Bellamy

It would be fitting if Bellamy decided to finish his coaching career where it began. He has always declared his intentions to return to Brisbane once his coaching career finishes. Hopefully, he still has a desire to coach and feels the Storm are in a strong enough position to succeed in the future without him for him to move on and help resurrect the Broncos. No doubt he would rebuild us into the powerful club we once were.

Other options: Shane Flanagan / Kevin Walters / Paul Green / Geoff Toovey

2021 Brisbane Broncos

1. Roger Tuivasa-Sheck / Alex Johnston / Cody Ramsey / Tex Hoy / Tristan Sailor / Jai Field
2. Herbie Farnworth / Jamayne Isaako / Alex Johnston
3. Tyrone Peachey / Cody Ramsey / Paul Momirovski / Jamayne Isaako / Jesse Arthurs
4. Kotoni Staggs
5. Xavier Coates
6. Luke Keary / James Maloney / Brodie Croft / Blake Green
7. Thomas Dearden
8. Tevita Pangai Jr
9. Cameron Smith / Harry Grant / Brandon Smith / Sam Verills / Jake Turpin
10. Payne Haas
11. Alex Glenn
12. Angus Chrichton / Mitch Barnett / Briton Nikora / Jaydn Su’a / Corey Oates
13. Patrick Carrigan

14. Corey Oates / Cory Paix
15. Thomas Flegler
16. Joe Ofahengaue / Matthew Lodge
17. Ethan Bullemor

Coach: Craig Bellamy / Shane Flanagan / Kevin Walters / Paul Green / Geoff Toovey

By providing some semblance of structure and staying OUT of the media. He doesn't have to answer every question he is asked and he doesn't need to provide more detail than needed. He also needs to work at getting things done and not provide information he doesn't know.

He cockily said the team would keep Fifita a year ago, well here we are. What the heck went wrong there? He had Dearden waiting in the wings who went really well considering he had been out for a year last week, yet he stuck with two hopelessly not working halves, one he bought into the club and trumpeted as a key signing and then made him a co-captain.

All of this has been covered before. He needed to bite his tongue, instil the foundations first and then introduce the new age ideas. Even in the first two rounds, Staggs won one game for the club and Fifita the other, there wasn't much semblance of a structure even then, though they did look better than last year, that is true.

I reckon you buy back some of the ones who have got away - go with Opacic, Su'A and if you miss out on Grant, a heavily reduced salary to Hunt to play 9, he is actually really good there. I wouldn't even be against bringing Lui back, he is going great guns at Canberra. The important thing here is that none of these guys are on huge wages (except Hunt and this is a last resort option) but they will bring back some of the Broncs to try to win over some of the old boys. You target a gun spine player in this order:

1. Grant
2. Keary
3. RTS

CEO: Ikin. He is an old boy and knows the media well and he will need that skill

Coach: Walters. Simple and effective with a lot of heart that’s what we want

Assistants: Hodges and Parker have to be around but there needs to be some experience in there like a Kearney or Henry. Also Walker brothers a must. They will get this attack going and give out of the box ideas. It will also do well in the media for curiosity and might interest Sam to come back

Need a GM or a head of Culture someone iconic and assertive. If only you could blend Wally and Bennett into one

Recruitment we all know what we need but to get that aura back we need to make several key signings that come out of the blue and are cheap and one key signing where we blow the opposition out of the water on the big stage. I don’t know who that signing will be but good think about the NRL there is always a falling out/bogus contracts that will give us an opportunity

I think we need to look to our own wherever possible .
I'd be looking at trying Coates to fullback.
Bring Tom O back or try for Brad Parker. Both adequate in attack but solid defensively.
Turps deserves a go at 9 but cam mcinnes is off contract in 2021 and wants to start.
We definatly need some mobility in the backrow and a hardened prop. Not sure who they would be .
Our pack mostly is pretty good just need a coach who can get that effort from them,.
