Not really. I was hoping to find solace in him being over-rated, but he did what he always does for us: scored a solo effort try when everyone else was flailing. If it's any consolation, TPJ ended up with significantly better stats on paper (apart from the try), and no-one's exactly raving about him today.
I'm not really sure how you can consider his try a solo try... it was a pretty stock standard try for a second rower.

Dearden went to the line the outside defence rushed up on fullback and outside backs leaving Fifita 1v1 with the half... Dearden makes the right pass, Fifita makes a slight movement to the outside (which was pretty quality) and beats Walker making a 10m run to the line.

I daresay Oates could finish off a similar try given he runs good lines and has a right hand carry.

It's not like Fifita picked it up flat footed 40m out and busted them from nothing... he ran a line and was given the ball.

Good read by Dearden I'd say

I really hate his last plays where it’s always so predictable - same old bombs directly to the fullback. It’s like he doesn’t know how to do grubbers😡😡😡
Dearden was doing the same kicks.

Also how can it be bombs or grubbers... is he meant to grubber it from 40-50m out???

Not trying to defend Croft, because he was rubbish last night, but it's like people don't realise bombing to the corners is a stock standard kicking game for halves these days... it's used to give the kick chase time to get down the field and shut down the winger

I hope not. Moving to pay is a surefire way to kill the code.
Who cares ... **** the NRL... if they die league will just rise up under a different banner.

It's different to union and soccer... people have been tuning off union for years, because the style of play is so bland, scrums are a disaster and the wallabies suck. When union was at it's peak the wallabies played running rugby and were good to watch. If the wallabies were at the all blacks level it would still be popular.

A league is dying as well I believe, but I think it's just the standard isn't good enough... still a lot of fans in Australia who watch and support the EPL, which is all pay per view.

If NRL go behind a paywall they will become bankrupt by the next TV deal and superleague comes in backed by a 7, 9 or 10

Of course bombing is the kick of choice when outside the 20 opposition but he was still kicking cross field kicks when a grubbed would have at least given a chance of a goal line drop out or trapping Souths within the 10 (Mind you the only time we did that the next play was a penalty to Souths for being “under the 10”)

Say what you want about Milf but at least he has some variation besides “bomb and pray”.

I know. But that is pretty much the Australian way now. Put all your eggs in the get rich quick basket.
Edit: for reference please see:
Mining boom vs Biotech boom
Solar vs Coal (both in tech funding and encouraging private home owners to change)
Fibre optic vs Copper (NBN)
Selling off land and property to Chinese investors
The Murray Darling water sell-off
Agricultural investment schemes (e.g. GRDC-Bayer HIP Program)
University fees
Defunding TAFEs
Franking credits

Everything is a get rich quick scheme these days.

It’s the Liberal Party way of life you mean.

From a cursory glance over that list I think he's having a shot at the Labor Party. I think they're mostly Labor policies, but I can see a couple that aren't or common to both.

League will survive because people want to watch it. Of course that will potentially change if some of the garbage isn't fixed.
A for the free to air Vs pay tv only thing, it used to be expensive but thanks to Kayo not anymore.
Can people really not afford $25 a month to watch the sport they love?

Remember that sport rugby union? That used to be pretty popular, then they went to fox and it’s pretty much dead now. I had a mate take his kid to st laurences to enrol the other day and they now only have A grade and B grade rugby going sometimes They have enough for C grade. Apparently they’re all playing AFL now.

Pay tv in this country is way overpriced. I’ve lived in Canada for a couple of years and when I was there 2015/16 everyone had to pay for standard tv $10 for more channels then we get here for free and then $10 for sports package. With that $10 extra you get all the hockey, cfl, baseball, nfl. That’s a shit load of sport throughout the week, every day!

What do you get on kayo?

Our coach can't even call it out, he has no venom in him, no emotion. He is a media whipping boy and I am sick of him. Sick of his placid face.
Sick of our Club not saying anything, Darren also due to his 9 contract will also not call anything out.

Granted all of the above is not the only reason we suck. A team with more class would likely overcome the odds, a better coached team would not get dominated so easily and an actual Coach would come out and hammer the refs and the media.

Compare with Cleary - his side have won 8 straight, 11 all up and sitting pretty at the top of the table. The top headline today on nrl.com is "Cleary thrilled with Panthers but not referees" and it's because at the presser her said it felt like Canberra "were being managed back into the game. That's all I can say… some really strange calls."

This ^. Cleary is just not going to sit there and watch the NRL manufacture contests. Everyone knows their doing it. But winners will not sit around and just cop it. Our club has gone soft and is hurtling into a death spiral and the game is not far behind it.

Yep walker and gagai just showed the comp how to nullify an approx 1.25 mil a year player. Just get up in his face early with numbers and get under his skin.

I think the titans have once again screwed themselves over throwing all their eggs in the fifita basket. If an average souths can work him out, the top tier teams should do so easily.
I think the caps a fair bit more than 1.25 million. I have trouble understanding how people cannot figure stuff out. They pay 1.25, other clubs might pay 800k. 425 k more from Titans. Over the rest of the squad of 30 odd that's about 14k each less p/a. So you buy a 300k guy for 285k, etc etc. It's not like they cannot buy other players, they haven't invested in just one player!!! That's ridiculous logic. Every club has a top earner. Turns out Fifita earns 50k a year more than some other clubs 1.2 player or anothers 1.1 player , do they have 'all their eggs in one basket' too???

There are a few intentional errors in your logic there.

1. Other good clubs top earners and earning 900k+ have been the best in their position for a sustained period of time and are not within their first 50 games of first grade. They are also usually in the spine and positions that can influence a game more than even the best backrower can.

2. Great maths there but you need to have those 300k players sign for 285k. More than likely if they are a good player they will be looking at the contract of Fifita and be saying "yeah he is a great player but he isn't 800k better than me, I'll come for 400k or 500k".

3. If you have a squad that consists of Fifita, Tino, EseEse and 30 odd other '285k'ers' you are going to get the occasional barnstorming runs and **** all else.

Outside of all this I find it absolutely hilarious that the raging fool has been carrying for 2 years that Brisbane are a "Ferrari without a steering wheel" (he is still so proud of himself for that, not only that it was true but that he managed to string a coherent sentence together) yet he and his mate Mal have willing done the same thing to his club. Coincidentally we haven't heard that little gem for a while.

I pulled the numbers out a few weeks back, but the proof was definitely in the pudding that blowing up about Refereeing worked because after the game when Manly were dudded against Parramatta and blew up about it they absolutely romped the Broncos in the penalty count the following week, winning 12 straight penalties in a row, including the crucial match winning penalty.

They then went on a streak where they won every penalty count for something like 5-6 weeks afterwards, and ended up with both the least conceded and also the most awarded to them. It was honestly stunning to pull the data and see their penalty differential seemingly just 'magically' improve week after week following the game where they put pressure on the NRL. They even won a penalty count in a game against the Sharks where they had 40+ points put on them and were absolutely flogged.

If people are seeing numbers like this unfolding and are still genuinely of the belief the Officials are not 'managing' various sides in matches on a regular basis then I'm sorry, but you may as well believe in the tooth fairy.

I thought Walker and Gagai handled Fifita pretty easily all night. He never really looked like a threat apart from his try, on which I thought Dearden isolated Walker quite nicely. He'll get better but needs to focus on the footy and not try to get the better of a couple of smart arses riling him up all game.
And in that situation you have a player Dearden who actually threatens to run! Makes a difference! Nice setup and quality run from Fifita.

Fifita still not going to win enough games for the Titans and Dearden... I imagine the Broncs couldnt be stupid enough to let his contract reach the open market!?

Have you not been paying attention recently?

Lets take a round figure and say the cap is 10 mil. They now have 8.75mil for 29 players. Lets take away the players they have on overs or other big money (i.e taylor, brimson, s.boyd, tino). Now there is less than 7 mil for 25 players. So to manage the cap, the rest of their team will be lesser skilled players on moderate/minimal wage. Lose a couple of those players and you are playing with a poor quality squad.

So if you want to be a pedant you could say they dont have ALL their eggs in fifita's basket but they have a lot of eggs in fifita's basket, quite a number in taylors and several in other players but then the other players have barely enough to make an omlette.

......Mmmm damn it, i am hungry now!

Still puzzled by your logic! I didn't say you get 30 players at 285! Jesus. What I'm trying to get across is saying the DIFFERENCE between signing Fifita on 800k to 1.25 is 425 which DIVIDED across the other players is about 15k each. So if you're looking at a 400k player you have slightly less PER player to bargain with. Get it now?

It makes no difference in a financial sense to whom you pay your top dollar. If the Tits paid 800k for Fifita you wouldn't bat an eyelid so it's ONLY the 425k extra that annoys you and upon which you base your argument. I'm trying to get across to you that the 425k when spread across the team isn't substantial. Your argument is purely about the 425k difference and when thought about in isolation, isn't really a big deal.
