Broncos Player Movement and Rumours 2020

If we arent making those decisions then how could we have decided we aren't carrying Macca and that we do/do not need Luke?

He's actually a dreadful depth signing if he's the fourth guy at the club who can only play one specialist position to be honest.

I was paraphrasing an article from the other day saying nothing would happen until the new coach is here to oversee it. Hilarious if true because they are happy to let high priority players wait until the last minute but are seemingly happy to sign Luke immediately. Even though luke has basically said he’ll just retire if the broncos don’t want him because he’s settled in Brisbane. So there was absolutely no reason to rush signing him even if he was worth keeping.

considering how much we’ve needed him this season I don’t think it’s the worst signing if he’s on 1 year at the absolute minimum dollars and if Macca is definitely gone. If any of those conditions aren’t the case it’s a head scratcher.

that's assuming either of these articles are 100% correct ... for all we know the articles have left out the fact that our high priority retention targets, have told the club that they won't be signing anything until they know who the coach is, where as someone like Luke, who wants to retire in Brisbane, isn't so picky and will re-sign regardless of the coach

Really don't know where Titains are getting all this bloody money to poach not only our players but players we are targeting.

Don't worry mate, they are about to feel the pain. Fifita is gonna have to take a paycut already because they haven't factored in that the cap will be a mill less next year due to covid.

Of course it isn't purely money. Only the most naive Broncos fan would really believe that.

The money is no doubt the biggest factor, but it's one thing to weigh up the money when it requires considerable lifestyle changes/compromises and an entirely different thing when it doesn't require almost any of those lifestyle changes. Even if we assumed it was all about the money then as I said it's worth noting that the money involved goes MUCH further on the Gold Coast relative to what it buys in Sydney -maybe by as much as a third or so - which is hardly chump change if money is your only goal.

I also suspect that whilst Souths offer was generous, I doubt it was as generous as what the Titans tabled. Virtually no other contract in NRL history has even been that generous - so to say it was the same money is probably a bit of a stretch.

Souths offer was over a million. It wasn’t too different at all. His attitude change considerably from January to August. He found it much easier to say no to Souths.

Sydney probably played a part I’m sure.

They have, all clubs were preparing for less cap and squads of 28.

I believe Newcastle feel that Macca was tremendous for them and since being injured the previously high flying Newcastle have slumped so I'm guessing they definitely want him again for next season.

Truthfully, we've missed him too. He kept the middle very solid and I for one think I didn't value that highly enough.

... a clearly out of his depth coach who can't communicate in terms simpler than Hegelian dialectics and detailed programmatic specificity,

No way I am contradicting you on that one, Stranger

Apparently John Asiata's manager has offered his services to a bunch of teams, including the Broncos. He's looking for a starting lock role.

Honestly, I think he could be a pretty handy signing, I think we've pretty much established that Carrigan is a prop - He doesn't have any of the attributes of a lock aside from being able to play big minutes, doesn't have the elite ball-playing ability, leg speed or offload to be a modern day lock.

Asiata has shown that he's one of the better ball-playing forwards in the competition when given the opportunity. As a team that's struggling with our attack, I think we could use him. Even if it's off the bench.

With that being said, I would only offer him a 1 or 2 year deal at around $250-300K, I don't think he's worth any more than that.

Yeh I think he is worth consideration. When we played against him I was always wary of his ball playing ability. Mind you we'd need our spine to improve imeasurably to take proper advantage of what he can offer.

can he bring Scott Drinkwater or Rueben Cotter down with him..?

Ball playing lock who can do general kicking too. Asiata in a heart beat.

But no, that's too expansive for our game plan. Lets' just resign ourselves to 4th and 5th tackle settlers by the halfback to Carrigan on the inside.

Carrigan taking those hit ups are not his fault, the halves and hooker should be directing play making sure there is no settlers in the attacking zone. Carrigan is young he will get a pass in his game and he will perfect his offloading all in due time. Lock is the least of your issues right now

If we’re sticking with Tpj surely we go with haas, tpj and Carrigan for our three starting middle in no particular order as prop and lock play the same unless you have a pure ball playing lock like jurbo. we also have lodge and flegs, man we have a lot of middle forwards. Riki deserves a shot outside of Dearden.

Do we really need Asiata?

He'd be handy backup for those rare occasions TPJ is suspended.
