Round 1 Lineup

Did you watch Allan in the trial today... dogs didn't score a point in the first half against a shit sharks side... and Allan wasnt some miracle worker at fullback. Second half mostly occurred from dogs DH cutting them through the middle and some weak sharks defence close to the line and sharks making errors with the ball in hand.

The only change you made to the left side was adding Herbie who is going to be there come round 1 anyway.

Capewell is all well and good for this year but there's a huuuuge likelihood that Piakura takes that left edge spot this year if not next year (pending ISC form) so we'd be paying $550k for a back up 2nd rower (assuming you want Riki on the right edge over Capewell).

Long and short is we should've picked up Opacic for the $250-300k that parra got him for and we only actually need Capewell for this year to start and maybe next year if Piakura needs another year or the pandemic wipes ISC out for another year.

1. Isaako (Walsh pending ISC)
2. Coates
3. Niu (Staggs when fit)
4. Opacic (if we had a competent R&R team)
5. Herbie
6. Milf
7. Dearden
8. Lodge
9. Turpin
10. Haas
11. Capewell (assuming he didn't want to play off the bench in Penrith, otherwise you just have to live with Glenn for a year... Piakura next year)
12. Riki
13. TPJ/Asiata

14. Luke (so Paix can play a full year in ISC)
15. Carrigan
16. Flegler
17. Asiata/TPJ
No point putting opacic their of their is 0 chance of getting opacic he just signed with a new club

I can say with a fair bit of certainty Tommy would have signed here for less than Parramatta ate paying him.

Which is disappointing to hear because we have a gaping hole at left centre (and have had for years), which he could have quite easily fill in the same way that Reed filled it for many years.

The comment I was making was that a competent R&R team wouldve swooped on him knowing that we needed a left centre desperately and he was pretty well set on heading back to QLD.

Wolfie has mentioned previously that Opa was basically going to give the game away after his year in Nth Qld at no fault to his actual playing ability.

So given he was coming back to QLD, was off contract, was a previous junior, is a competent footy player in a position we desperately need and at an affordable price... why didn't we jump in and offer him a contract, instead of say Copley or Mead.

I know who I'd prefer to be in our backline out of those 3

I think their is a lot of negativity and I’m gonna try and give hope to everyone for rd 1...

No.1 their were 9 or 10 players who played to the right quality Lodge, Carrigan and Isaako were a very mixed bag and can bounce back
2. We can bounce back from this a lot of people are saying how can we get confidence into the team... easy it’s that first half performance... what do we need to fix... easy look at that 2nd half performance

as a whole whilst their were a few questionable moments from lodge, Carrigan and Isaako I think lodge and Carrigan will bounce back and I was actually quite impressed with Isaako offensively and he was good up until he got crushered and went missing so let’s hope that was the reason why and he bounces back... I was actually pleasantly surprised by our starting outside backs

To finish off Kennar, Oates and Flegler were woeful and Kennar and Oates surely have played themselves out of team contention and Fleglers discipline is still very poor, maybe he should go do what Pangai did and see how he performs when he gets back

The man wasn’t by any means great in defence in that second half but in saying that nobody was and secondly you sure as shit can’t fault him in attack that is the sole reason he is on that list (also he was 1st name because I went positional order)
As I said, it’s his job to organise the frontline, no one else’s.

And you may be willing to say Isaako had a good game because he looked decent in attack, and in doing so, completely disregard how shit he was in defence.

But defence wins games, so I couldn’t give a shit if he looked like Tedesco in attack. His defence was so awful in that second half, he cost us far too many points. Points not even Tedesco level attack would cover.

Yeah I get what you were saying but you were better off putting a realistic centre option in is all

I have not once said his defence was good you all have been very quick to state how shit he played and none of you have actually given credit for his offensive work, he played exceptional until he got crushered and then went to sleep, yes his defence was questionable but their are many other factors to his second half downfall than just he is a shit player is all I’m saying

Aren’t you making my point for me? I’m not talking about signing the likes of Allan, Capewell and possibly even Mann for the long term, I’m talking about filling in gaping holes until these kids coming through are ready. These guys do that and I want competition for spots, not just well that kid will be ready in two years so let’s just make do with rubbish in the mean time.

And that side I named is only from players we have in the squad currently.
The squad I named was a "what if"... like "what if we had a competent R&R department??"

Opa was available and only taken because Jennings got done for drugs

I think given Capewell wants $550k then there's no point going after him... if we could've got him for this year then it would be fine, but he'd probably have a shelf life of 2 more years at the Broncos on a decent wage (end of 2022)... except he's not taking less than 3 years after his origin series (2023... or 2024 if we couldn't get him this year). I for one dont want a backup 2md rower on $550k+ for 2yrs beyond his used by date.

Glenn is serviceable for this year with the massive likelihood that Piakura probably takes his spot this year or next... If ISC was on last year Piakura is probably already taking his spot.

We could be actually innovative with our recruiting.

Like Capewell we may really only want for 1 year, so offer the Panthers 100k to loan him for a year and offer Capewell a 100k sign on bonus.

Opacic is an absolute no brainer, we desperately need good defence in the backline and he's probably the best that doesn't cost a fortune.

Surely, surely, surely Mead doesn't get actual first grade games. I understand Walters signing him for "culture" or whatever but he's a useless player.

I think you may need to go back and re-read.

You said he played well because his attack looked good. I simply said I couldn’t give a shit how well he attacked when his defence is as poor as it was tonight. Which I stand by.

It’s not as though Isaako is some green rookie. He’s in his fifth year of first grade. He is well beyond the point where it’s good enough that he plays well on one-side of the ball. He needs to be better, and when it comes to his own defence and how he organised the teams defence tonight, he really couldn’t get any worse.

So no, he didn’t play well.

You’re obviously right. I should have known before I replied to your original post below that you were only referring to his attack.

How did I not get that?!?
How about we look at the players who played well
Isaako, Coates, Niu, Mead was quiet but not dreadful, Croft (was very pleased), Dearden (very pleased as well), Riki ( we have replaced fifta very well), Glenn (if we get 24 of those performances this year will be very happy), Pangai (did some good stuff and was quiet at times and finally Asiata played very well almost forgot Turpin as well

Hard done by list:
Lodge (1st half, 2nd half wasn’t great but still doesn’t deserve the comments he is getting), Carrigan (I thought he was alright, man needs a lot more fitness tho)
Isaako (was very impressive first half but like almost everyone second half was fairly questionable but by no means was he bad just tried a little to hard to be involved and lost his effectiveness)

I have never seen so many people go from optimistic to pessimistic so quickly... I think it’s a good thing that happened... we showed two very different sides of what we dish up, what we can and what we do... we showed that we can play good footy and dominate which we did without Staggs without Milford without haas that is something in itself... we take a couple fundamental players off and everything turns to shit... yes definitely not ideal but at least we got 40 minutes worth of confidence and 40 minutes worth of deep analysis and fixing to do over the next 2 weeks... I say from now on we focus on the next game and stop reflecting, arguing and having a cry about what just happened in a TRIAL game, myself included

Needs to get ruled "fit" so he can recuperate in suspension.

Seriously though, I know impacts can cause damage obviously but is this another error by the medical staff? Did they return him too early or stuff up the procedure? I’m not accusing just genuinely asking.
