Some of these deals are so bad, Boyd/Bird/Lodge, that it's almost impossible anyone signing off on them without knowing they were fucking over the Broncos.

It's too inept to be believable.

Lodge isn't a bad deal ... at least wasn't when he signed the contract prior to PVL's massacre

Even at it's best, it's not a good deal. 700k is probably the peak of Lodges earning power. 800k is insanity.

as i said before ... in the nearly 2 years since Lodge signed his current contract, this is the very first time 800k has even been speculated about (at least in regards to us) ... why are people so quick to believe this figure now, given it is the very first time we've seen it.

Not the first I’d seen it. It’s been stated for ages.

650k to 700k has been the figure ... 800k never speculated about. except maybe in peoples fantasy lands

edit: zero tackle has him down at 700k ... and they always used the highest figure the media report on

How can you predict Oates drop off? All very well saying no foresight when at the time he was re-signed he was elite
Well in my view its more of - they knew we had xyz players coming through, why would we go to town on oates with a PO? His form had already dropped off when he was re signed.

I think Lodges deal is much closer to 600k than 800k pa. Even if it is it's (the difference) only the equivalent of ONE good quality players salary spread over three seasons so it's not a biggie. I think we should see 10 games under the new speed dating rules at least before being upset at his contract value.

I have nothing against bartenders mate. I'm saying the biggest club in the league should be able to find somebody a bit more qualified to do such an important role. They way kids like Sam Walker were handled is pretty amateurish to say the least.

Nothing stopping a 'glassy' becoming a brain surgeon either, it's just that you don't hear of it too often.

Hey ahh, crazy idea. Why don't we get ahead of the curve and offer St. George a trade: Milford for Dufty, we pay half of Milford's remaining contract for 2021 and take on all of Dufty's. The idea is to get it into Griffin's head that he can turf Dufty out and put Norman at fullback to "reunite the crew" as it were.

1. Norman
6. Milford
7. Hunt
9. McC

Dufty to Broncos to play fullback. Everyone wins?
**** that spine looks a whole lot better than ours tbh... won’t win a comp, but won’t come second last like ours.

Turns out we are the worst victims for allowing player options. Received wisdom is players only exercise these options if they're under-performing. No club wants them, so the more you have the worse you are at negotiating:

EVERY NRL CLUBS’ PLAYER OPTION CONTRACTS

BRONCOS: 4

Matthew Lodge: 2022 ($800,000), 2023 (PO for $800,00), 2024 (PO for $800,000). Corey Oates: 2022 (PO for $500,000). Jake Turpin: 2022 (PO for $200,000). Kotoni Staggs: 2022 (PO for $300,000)

BULLDOGS: 1
Matt Burton: 2022 ($450,000), 2023 ($500,000), 2024 (PO for $500,000).

COWBOYS: 1
Jordan McLean: 2022 (PO for $650,000)

DRAGONS: 3
Ben Hunt: 2022 ($1.2m), 2023 (PO for $1.2m). Paul Vaughan: 2022 (PO for $650,000). Mikaele Ravalawa: 2022, 2023, 2024 (PO)

EELS: 4
Dylan Brown: 2022 ($650,000) 2023 (PO for $750,000). Reagan Campbell-Gilliard 2022 ($800,000), 2023 (PO for $800,000), 2024 (PO for $800,000). Ryan Matterson 2022 (PO for $500,000). Mitchell Moses 2022 (PO for $800,000)

KNIGHTS: 3
Tyson Frizell: 2022 ($700,000), 2023 (PO for $700,00). Kalyn Ponga: 2022 ($1.1m), 2023 (PO for $1.1m), 2024 (PO for $1.1). Gehamat Shibasaki: 2022 (PO for ?)

PANTHERS: 0

RABBITOHS: 0

RAIDERS: 3

Jarrod Croker: 2022 ($600,000), 2023 ($600,000), 2024 (PO for $600,000). Josh Papalii: 2022 ($660,000), 2023 ($660,000), 2024 ($660,000), 2025 (PO for ($660,000). Jack Wighton: 2022 ($900m), 2023 (PO for $900,000), 2024 (PO for $900,000)

ROOSTERS: 0

SEA EAGLES: 0

SHARKS: 1

Chad Townsend: 2022 (PO for $520,000), 2023 (PO $520,000)

STORM: 2
Kenneath Bromwich: 2022 ($400,000), 2023 (PO for $400,000). Felise Kaufusi: 2022 (PO for $680,000)

TIGERS: 1
Joe Ofahengaue: 2022 ($500,000), 2023 (PO for $500,000).

TITANS: 2
Tino Fa’asuamaleaui: 2022 ($700,000), 2023 (PO for $700,000). Herman Ese’ese: 2022 (PO for ?)

WARRIORS: 1
Kodi Nikorima: 2022 (PO for $500,000)

when you look through the list as well, there’s not many players who have increased their value (ie, almost all of them will take up the PO).

I believe Hunt has already taken up his (no surprise since he’s worth half that)

But isaako had a blinder of a 20 minute period. Plus he kicks goals

Just thinking about the player options.

So if a player is playing well, they'll probably want to upgrade it instead (ie Staggs, he won't be playing for 300K next year).
If a player is playing shit and deserves less, that's when they'll take it.
Seems a bit shit.

Player option is something a weak club does. Needs to be cut out of the club completely.

Definitely something a strong club wouldn't do ie Storm, Roosters or Gamblers.

Yeah imagine the position we’d be in with no player options? (Assuming no new contracts).

No Bird on our books, no Macca, no Lodge beyond his contract end. No Milford. No Oates.

Our salary cap suddenly isn’t looking so bad...

I can only assume the “expert negotiators“ assumed we’d be able to offload these players easily to other clubs by the time any PO were due, hence they cost us nothing, but may help attract a player.

Except the complete opposite ACTUALLY happened...

The Storm have 2 players with options in their favour

Kaufusi and Bromwich. Both of whom would be on unders. We put our PO on ***** who are on 800k+ like Lodge, Bird and Boyd

that's not what you said.

Foordy has a point. In fact you keep changing your argument every time your outlandish claims are proven false or inaccurate.
