If any of the reports coming out of the cows are actually true (requesting a mid season release, buying a halves partner for him), you've got to assume Dearden made up his mind a while back.

I don’t know the guy personally though so it’s only hearsay. He isn’t exactly the best player either which doesn’t help.

I would describe him as a bit of a selfish DH.

Rather than do the team thing and get the ball to his halves when they want it he could waste several tackles throwing crash balls or going himself trying to score, hoping to hit a highlight play.

He can succeed at times, but he can effectively run off script and play away from the game plan... I'd say that would piss off his coaches and his teammates, and coaches won't be able to trust him... hence being happy for him to move on.

Perhaps his lack of interest last year contract wise and taking a desperation deal for ISC has made him realise this and possibly changed the way he plays

I don't believe he's that duplicitous. I think he wants to stay but hes unsure about what the plan is for him, which is fair enough because I don't think the club even knows. We need to sort our shit out and that means bringing the Staggs negotiations to a head, one way or another.

I feel like it would be a bad move for the cow's to continue to pursue Deardon from us if they get Townsend.

I dont think it would be a good combination. If you get townsend in i think you need to compliment him with a bit more of a running 6/7 with some spark. A Cody walker, Jack Wighton style guy.

I actually see this as a good opportunity to try and get them to take Milf. I've always thought an in form Milf and Townsend would be a good combination.

If you want to have another organising style half next to Deardon i think they have to be just a little more dominant then Townsend. Combine Tom with a Reynold's/DCE type half he probably learns a lot and really evolves his game. Combine him with Chad Townsend and he probably does the same as next to croft which is very little.

If the cows want to offer Deardon overs i think you need to let him walk. Especially given our strike rate of supposedly having the next big thing in terms of halves. So far out of Ash Taylor, Corey Paix, Tannah Boyd, Tom Deardon and Walker its only been walker whos fired a shot.

I’m being dramatic but I can feel it in my gut that we’ll have a Croft and Milford halves pairing going into next season.

Dearden is a long term signing for the Cowboys. Townsend is a short term signing to take the pressure off Dearden in the short term. That's what they are thinking.

Why would Dearden go to Cowboys. Peyton seems like a much less chill coach. You get a natural disaster every second year. They're in a much worse situation than the Broncos for now and in the future and have years left on paying overs for Lolo and Val. Also even MORE travel.

Dearden to Cowboys just smells like horse shit to me.

It is interesting to see that we have people say "we have to be more like melbourne and recruit from ISC" and when we recruit the hooker from an unbeaten ISC team who has been playing well, scored several tries and several try assists, plays in a feeder club with other players on our roster, has nrl experience and is in a position that we have poor depth but many of those same people say it is a shit signing.

My guess is Drinkwater to Broncs to partner Croft in halves. Played together at Storm.

Here's what I think: Dearden is playing for his contract this Friday night.

We beat the Eels, and it's largely because of Dearden, he stays.

Our young halfback puts in another immature performance that merely shows promise, he goes.

Maybe he'll get another week or two, but it's starting to look like crunch time to me. Walters is out of patience. He wants to build towards next year's pairing now. Not training some other club's future half. JT might be a "big fan" but he's not training him week in, week out. Kevvie is.

We will beat the Cowboys' offer if Kevvie thinks Dearden is the answer. We might not even need to match the money to beat it. But if we decide Dearden is the club's future then whatever we pay him, that's what he's worth. It doesn't matter whether you're a junior or senior halfback. You're paid to be the halfback now, not later.

But if we decide Dearden is the club's future then whatever we pay him, that's what he's worth. It doesn't matter whether you're a junior or senior halfback. You're paid to be halfback now.

Yep, I don't think Kevie is actually convinced Deardon is the answer, particularly not in the short term.

I also don't think the club wants to wait another couple of seasons to see if Deardon is the real deal.
