Staggs will be the next to sign elsewhere, mark my words.

R&R team finally in the firing line

Maranta has putting them in the firing line because we have NSW eligible players ... we shouldn't be concerned what state players are from ... just if they can play

riches and resources mean jack shit ... we can only pay players the exact same amount as the poorest club in the comp
Think the riches & resources remark was in reference to the club’s ability to ensure it the best possible people pulling the strings behind the scenes to ensure the football side is strong

Time for another Super League. **** the NRL

This needs to be very seriously considered.

If you created a viable national competition without the ridiculous, knee-jerk rule changes, ridiculous HIA rubbish and soft crap like getting rid of shoulder charges and punch-ons, develop a group of teams who were actually ALL competitive (instead of just 4 good teams and the rest awful), playing some old-fahsioned hard footy then I think the fans would very quickly figure out what they wanted to watch.

Let the NRL wallow and die with its obsession with appeasing middle aged mums and the PC crowd and their lopsided competition. It has descended to a farcical level - its closer to basketball than football nowadays.

The NFL (American Football) remains the gold standard of international sporting codes due to its undying commitment to old-fashioned values, and tough, grinding, physical contents. All the gimmicky 'faster! more point! more exciting! more celebrations!' type leagues (the AFL, XFL) are fun for 5 minutes then nobody could care less. The NRL has turned itself into a pathetically soft gimmicky shadow of what it once was. A league which stepped in and corrected everything and took the game back to 15 years ago would be instantly superior in every way and whoever took the risk would make an absolute killing as the NRL collapsed.

I have said it before, but i think the broncos should leak that they are considering or intending changing/reducing their investment in junior player development systems and investment in grassroot footy given the lack of benefits for the club.

It will shake the nrl who have been too reliant upon the broncos to identify, develop and bring players into the mainstream only for scouts/poachers to entice them after they have been brought through development systems.

The nrl may then introduce some incentives for clubs producing/developing juniors which the nrl builds their brand on.

If they dont budge, screw it, operate like the roosters and melb. Two of the most successful clubs in the past 10 years but do shit all at junior level.

we wouldn't have the pull ATM to make it happen ... but we'll get back to that level
I will say I’m happy to wait for Donaghy to see if he can get us back on track, but I can’t see him being able to achieve much with the current board

Who first used the word “sparked” doesn’t answer the question at all.

You stated that the game was 6 all and as soon as Levi came on we got 18 put on us, we lost all momentum and suffered one of the clubs worst losses in history. Somehow, that’s not scapegoating Levi?

Piss weak response from you.
I was happy to let others move the conversation along especially since I had explained this to you earlier and theshed covered this across two posts. It was in response to Huge's assertion that he 'sparked' the team which didn't happen because he came up with that error where he passed the ball into his own face when Brisbane had an opportunity to take the lead at a pivotal moment in the game. I didn't place the blame squarely on him, but he wasn't a positive influence on the performance either.

That wasn't the reason why I thought it was one of the worst debuts in club history, it was his overall performance in a bad loss for the team.

That's where I'm going to leave it.

For all we know Bellamy could be waiting for Donaghy to take over before making his decision, with Donaghy in place Craig knows that he has a direct line and a relationship with a CEO he trusts and can make changes happen that he thinks are needed at the club.

That could be why we've held back on signings, Donaghy is the key they kicks everything off.

Panthers have already reportedly pulled their funding from their nursery and from 3 of the NSW junior comps.

After this week this is where you want your chairman to come out and subtly hint that the broncos are reviewing the possibility of reducing junior investment funding.

It's not a decision that anyone can make except the board... you can use the fact that Fifita (scoring a hat trick), Walsh (debuting ahead of RTS... even though 6 rounds ago he was a bronco on a development deal) and Dearden being poached has made the club reevaluate the benefits of investing so much money into junior identification and development and whether it's actually worth it.

You wouldn't do it as the chairman coming out and releasing a statement you would simply do it as a journo asking planted questions
"what did you think of the Walsh's debut?"
"Are you disappointed to see Dearden leave?"
"Are you disappointed seeing Fifita playing elsewhere and other Broncos kids playing and succeeding elsewhere?"

That way it's just throw away lines, but it still plants the story that one of the biggest clubs is thinking of turning its back on junior development (because there's no benefit) and make the league think of how they would fix the mess that would be created from it.

Obviously other clubs would just up their involvement on junior development in qld, but can they cover everything the broncos do and would it just end up as a patchwork mess with teams vulturing and cherry picking.

Sydney clubs wouldn't really care all that much and would just be looking to pillage and plunder a couple kids that look good each year... that becomes a QRL issue, and if QLD talent drops to the back burner because it's left to Shitney clubs then state of origin becomes an issue down the track as less and less QLD talent is making it to NRL.

GC would talk a big game about upping their involvement, but their entire recruitment plan has been poaching broncos that played at Keebra Park or PBC... unlikely they would have the resources to venture out too far from that.

If Melbourne are able to retain Hynes, you know they're wielding 2 books again

I think Vlandys has created this mess that the NRL is at present and he should be held accountable. Broncos should send a message and stop funding the juniors and maybe raid some junior nurseries down south to get the message through.
