OFFICIAL Xavier Coates Leaves Broncos

We were the beneficiary of this for many years.

It's embarrassing that the shoe is on the other foot now, but all the club can do is look inwards and figure out how to turn things around.

Signing a decent player or two would be a good start.

Good riddance! Bloke nearly loses metres every hit up he takes . A liability in defence that comes off the wing and let’s try after try in . Easily replaced to be honest . Issako to the wing and Herbie to full back

I can handle losing coates, but to lose him to melbourne is a joke. There's little point having a salary cap if players are willing to go to "successful" teams for unders, it only ensures those teams remain successful. Then we have the nrl grandstanding about K.Hunts contract with us because of concerns it would not represent his market value.
I know I harp on about this a lot but this a salary cap doesn't work without a draft. Only our game is so stupid to implement one without the other. It's like buying a car and taking out the engine then scratching your head wondering why it won't drive anywhere.

We used to be the successful team that players would take unders to come and play for, now look at us.

Everything is cyclical, these bad times will make us appreciate the good times again which i myself was taking for granted when we were a guaranteed top 8 team for all those years.

Whilst i would have liked Coates to have stayed, he is just a winger, and one that had flaws in certain areas. I'm not too fussed on this one.

Anyone else think that has Tripp's fingerprints all over it? I reckon they put a deadline on him to sign about 7 days before Donuts started. Yeah it was a risk for sure but by doing it this way, they have immediately got one over the Broncos' saviour. Just shows how far ahead of us that club is.

would they even be able to implement a draft after Terry Hill successfully challenged it in court in the early 90s?

Well played if true, all we can do is dust ourselves off and look to emulate the best in the biz.

After the impact losing Fifita had, losing Coates just seems..."meh" (although worse than losing Dearden)

Winning only 2 games from the last 20 or so is what turned this young man's head. No resilience, no ticker, no drive, no accountability. They're all signs of immaturity. Jumps ship while sprouting all the right things. He's part of the sad malaise this club fell into under Siebold. You'll see we're better off without him in the long run.

Potentially not but then go to a points system or something, you can't successfully have a salary cap without a draft and vice versa.

BTW ... if it is being announced today, that means he signed at least 10 days ago, before the Titans win and his supposed trip to Melborune to "Inspect" their facilities

Yep, give me a Riki, Piakura, Herbie and even a Lodge over a Coates any day.

Players that are willing to dig in and get this team from the bottom are what we need.
