To be fair, i think it was from the 20+ games we all watched where he provided pretty much **** all positive contribution that has formed peoples opinions

I've watched the Broncs since inception. I can honestly say hand on heart Tommy and Xavier both showed promise but neither have set the League world on fire with they way they've played to date. If they had've done they'd still be here.

The dogs have stopped barking, and the caravan has moved on. I'm more looking forward to having a water tight right side defence. The amount of tries that side leaked was shitting me to tears.

To be fair, Coates does show a great deal of promise and is already pretty effective, at least in attack. I fully expect him to go on to Melbourne and become a Rep star and one of the better Wingers in the game, which would be amazing for Queensland.

That said, Wingers don't win you Premierships, and our side is badly overloaded with high priced Middle Forwards and a spine which has been severely under-invested in.

We're locked into most of our Middle Forwards long term as we've already bitten the bullet on them so there is no room for great movement there. If we want to re-balance the side Cap-wise then it's unfortunately the Outside Backs that we have to make sacrifices in.

Coates was not one I'm sure any of us wanted to lose, but not overspending here may be the short term pain we have to accept for the long term gain of getting some decent cattle back into the absolutely vital spine Roles going forward.
