Me too. From the coaches available (I do not count Bellamy), Lam is currently my preferred choice.

Well I'd love to give the Walkers a go but outside them.
Yeah I'm surprised they haven't been offered a assistant roll of some sort, especially being mates with Lockyer and now ikin is here.
I'm still happy to wait and see how Kevvie goes, anyone who thought things would drastically improve after the shit show this club has been in aren't being realistic.

One of the things that make the Roosters so consistently strong and successful (and is rarely talked about) is the way they are happy to move guys on either right in the middle or at the beginning of their downward spiral as a player.

Even if that same player has another great year immediately after...?

So when i see Lodge & TPJ go, even though everyone admits they have something to offer and maybe in their peak....

Thats what i think of...

So, the other side of the coin is the guys the Roosters bring in or promote...

Guys on less coin, but not quite the finished product...

And i look at Corey Jenson...

Are we trying to copy the Roosters here a bit?
I don't know about that, i mean the Roosters brought back SBW well past his best, extended on JWH when he would be one of the guys at the middle or end of their career that you mention. They also had great success getting 2 years out of Cronk which was not a guy on less coin but not quite the finished product.

They also got fortunate with the Morris boys who again were hardly "not quite the finished product"

Roosters have also shown they will move on a younger guy if he isn't cutting it like Flanagan.

I think he's more than a project player. He is good enough to play origin for Queensland, is my opinion.

He could play lock or second row for us.. Which would be solid..

11. Kurt Capewell
12. Rhyse Martin
13. Patrick Carrigan
But then what happens with Piakura, TC, etc. that we have also invested money in.

Has Martin ever played lock and can he play it in the current NRL... does he want marquee money as a second rower or does he take a reduced contract to play lock.

I just think there's too many risks and unknowns associated with Rhyse when you consider that TC looks a good player in the making and we have put investment into Piakura.

Need to have long term plans when it comes to recruiting younger guys.

If TC and Piakura are coming through in 3yr then we either lose some, because we invested in Rhyse... or we are trying to push Rhyse out likely whilst paying some freight.

Well, yeah, he's played lock and could play lock for us in the NRL.

I don't think he'd exactly hinder anyone's development or our ability to retain young talent..

He's a better option than holding onto someone like Ben Te'o.

Te'o is 34 and Martin is 26..

Martin is probably exactly what we need to be honest.

The make up of the bench doesn't really matter to me.. The starting 13 is important though.. We need to lock players into their positions and stick to it.

1. Selwyn Cobbo
2. Corey Oates
3. Herbie Farnworth
4. Kotoni Staggs
5. Dane Gagai
6. Albert Kelly
7. Adam Reynolds
8. Payne Haas
9. Cory Paix
10. Thomas Flegler
11. Kurt Capewell
12. Rhyse Martin
13. Patrick Carrigan

14. Kobe Hetherington
15. Jordan Riki
16. TC Robati
17. Ethan Bullemor

18. Brendan Piakura
19. Corey Jensen
20. Tyson Gamble
21. Billy Walters
22. Brenko Lee
23. Tesi Niu

I like this team..

Teo costs us a pie and coke, Martin will be $500k plus at a position where we've already invested in Capewell, Piakura, TC and Riki.

And the he "could" play lock for us is the whole reason he's a project player in my mind... his best position is second row, which we've already invested in and it's unknown whether he's a starting quality lock in current NRL for the money he'd be after.

Right now I think we need he WILL play lock for us and he will provide x, y and z for any purchase that we make... which is exactly what Reynolds, Capewell, Periera, Lee, Jensen and possibly Gagai bring as recruits.

Otherwise we're just picking up Jack Birds (project players) that we dont have a specific plan for just a whole bunch of ideas or possibilities.

Bulldogs have bought about 5 guys that they planned on playing fullback (DWZ, Cotric, JAC, Allan, Dufty, etc.) before finally settling on Dufty for at least 12 months or so... now they're looking to offload Flanagan within 12 months of him starting and it wont be long before they're having to offload Allan.

That is what having no plan looks like

What are you talking about? Why would Martin cost us 500k?? He would not cost more than 300k. He can play lock easily.. That's not an issue. Martin is not a project player either.. I'm starting to think you haven't seen him play.. One of the Dog's worst decisions was letting go of Martin anyway.. I'm not sure how signing Martin equals having no plan.

Rhyse Martin is a decent shout, good goalkicker too (not that it would be required with Reynolds coming). Depends on $$$ I suppose.

I'm with you @upthebroncs I thought he was pretty solid when in the NRL too.

I could definitely see him forming a lovely combination with Adam Reynolds. If we have Capewell and Martin on the edges our side suddenly becomes a lot more solid (professional/experienced)

I doubt he would cost much. He was highly underrated when he left the NRL and still is.

Qlder isn't he as well? If he is cheap (that is the super key as always), why not?

I'm not giving up on Kevvie yet even though I have big concerns. I do think though we need to bring someone in who could take over if Kevvie does end up having to be punted, which wouldn't be a shock at this point in time.

If he's any good in the ESL then he'd be on marquee money over there... not to mention a guy like Offa gets $500k here. I think ridiculous figures of $800k was being thrown around when he was coming off contract before he went to ESL.

It shouldn't be unexpected that a guy in his prime as a player would cost above average.

What would you anticipate he'd sign for to entice him back??

Also he's 28/29, not 26... so his next contract could be his last big pay day

Oh yeah I got the age wrong.. 28/29 probably won't command a huge deal.

The fact is that he's off contract and he's worth talking to!

If we needed a second rower... we have TC who has looked at home in the NRL and is already contracted.

From some of the lists being put up on this site we may only have 1 more spot available in the top 30, so going for Martin would prevent a Gagai (therefore we go into the season with Herbie, Staggs and Lee, and Staggs may be 6 anyway) or doesnt allow us to upgrade at 1 or 9.

I think there are other priorities before going for another second rower regardless of how talented he is... which I agree he is talented, just not what we need right now.

Haha TC just appeared in the team only a few weeks ago.. I'm not sure why he must be such a crucial piece to the side now.. We can have both players in my opinion. The roster definitely isn't set for next year, so I wouldn't be counting roster spots yet.

Assuming we are looking for another forward to sign, my pick is Rhyse Martin.

I said TC has looked at home in NRL... ie. he looks comfortable as an NRL first grader... ie. we dont necessarily need another starting second rower

People were probably saying the same thing about Riki when he burst onto the scene.

The point is that we don't have to cater to TC.. If he deserves a spot he'll be in the side.. Not sure what the issue is? If he leaves, he leaves.. I think that we've come to terms with the concept at Broncos now..

We need more experience in our forward pack if we're going to win games.

but he’s saying TC is looking comfortable in NRL at second row. Is it good value to then go out and buy another second rower who hasn’t played Nrl for a few years???
