The MRC is just a lottery - everyone knows it so I don't think it's a good look when a club raises concerns over an incident. The only exception would be the aforementioned Korbin Sims example where he suffered a broken jaw and Greenberg had to give them a reality check.

I understand the frustration behind the no call and the bunker should have called time out a couple of plays later just to review the incident. Unfortunately for whatever reason it didn't happen and play had moved on far too much for them to go back.

In that situation the best course of action is for the team to start a stink. I actually think Herbie's team mates missed the contact since Glenn was involved in the tackle to bring Katoa down and Oates only had eyes on the pass. Bullemor who was also in the vicinity appeared to have his eyes up-field getting ready to run in support.

There's nothing wrong with what the NRL is doing with trying to protect its players - and it should be healthy for the long term prospects of the game - but trying to play by these rules is a lot harder than you'd think, and something has to change again. Unfortunately, I see us heading towards helmets. None of us want that.

The trouble with not being allowed to tackle over the shoulders like Flegler did - which runs the risk of head contact - is that is the most effective way to wrap up the player to prevent him from offloading, or foiling an offload attempt, without risking contact with the ball itself. It's also standard practice in league to have one over the top, and one around the legs. If you have everyone going for the mid-riff, we're going to see friendly head knocks, and I think we're already seeing that. Plus big guys on little guys, or big guys on guys who are ducking, it's always going to happen.

Players like Flegler, Willison and Kennedy are going to have to spend a bulk of their preseason relearning how to tackle. The Broncos are going to need a specialist defensive coach to figure out how to adjust. It's the number one priority in the off season.

A tackle higher than the stripe was a penalty .A tackle over the shoulder was def a penalty . Along with lifting tackles and picking players feet / legs up while they were held .
If this generation of players grew up under those rules they should have learnt long ago not to break them ?

It's almost like it's not learned behavior or those players weren't working under as much fatigue when they were juniors. I don't think there's any real proof that fatigue causes less injuries. I know that when I am tired I am more than likely to forget technique and hurt myself or somebody else.

You are absolutely right about the best course of action is to start a stink. Nothing serious, just pushing and shoving from players within the vicinity (so that players that run in dont get themselves into trouble) and not enough to cop fines. It will at least stop the game for the bunker to review the play.

Plenty of teams do this, or feign injuries to get penalties. There is no benefit to playing with integrity anymore. It shits me that penalties are only blown when a player stays down, but this is what happens when the nrl choose to officiate the way they do.

All players from now on are to keep blood packets in the corner of their mouths and when they think they've copped even the slightest of hits they should bite down on it and let it dribble out. Raspberry flavour if possible.

And small little explosive air packs imbedded under the skin just below the eyes. Remote controlled by the on-field doc. Cop one around the eyes, doc looks at it, tell player to hold nose and BOOM, instant simulated facial fracture.

I mean sure if that's how you approach everything in life.. blind freddy can see the progress the club has made since they made some big decisions with some key players and got things behind the scenes in order as well, it doesn't happen instantly.

We will be much much better next season, not saying we make the top 4 but I expect we will make the 8

I think you're being a bit reductive there champ.

To a large extent Kevvie, and ( to a lesser degree) DD and the bespectacled one have slowly but surely reminded our current squad of players what it means to be a Bronco. With the schoolmaster burning our boats he also trashed our whole culture and ushered in a sad era of individuality and the idea of me, me, me.

We're not where we want to be yet, but the whole culture of the Brisbane Broncos has had to be rebuilt from the ground up. I think we can safely say that even in the days of V'landy ball and the 6 again lottery our present team will no longer capitulate at the drop of a hat.

Considering Kevvie has done this with far less players than the schoolmaster had at his disposal is really quite an amazing turnaround. Factor into this the loss of 'elite' players like Lodge, TPJ and mainstays like Ofhenguae, Deardon, McCullough, Bird and the likes and Kevvie's revival is even more remarkable. Sure we are not quite there yet, but we're far closer to success now than before Kevvie took over.

Oates is back in form, Riki, Robati, Hetherington all made progress this year Cobbo is another long-term prospect that has been slowly introduced to the side. Gamble and Kelly have been allowed to find form and both will be vying for the spot alongside Reynolds next year.

Securing Reynolds and Capewell were two tremendous pieces of business.

Lot's more, it seems, to remember than forget I think.
