Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2021

Elliot would be such a poor signing. He's simply a tool. After what we have done to rectify our roster signing a bloke like him would be a backwards step. We would be worth the risk at minimum wage on a one year deal with a year option in our favour. Even then, personally i'd still not bother.

There's no doubting the bloke has proven to be a bit of a wanker when he's on the grog, but as you said, short-term deal on not a lot of money, with stipulations in his contract that say we can terminate it at any stage if we deem he's not living up to the new and improved Broncos culture.. simples.

Give him the James Roberts treatment - Stop drinking grog and you'll play every week, drink grog and you'll be playing QCUP or out of the club. Maybe a change in scenery is all he needs to pull his head in.

I'm with UB on this one.
He's not done anything actually illegal, he's just a bit of a bell end. Strict conditions, no drinking, and he'd be a worthwhile risk on a low money short term deal.

Being away from Sydney means he won't have whoever his shit friends and influences are so he has every chance to turn things around.

Probably at this stage he would be a bit too much of a risk. 12 months down the track possibly it may be a good deal. We've still already got 2 serial offenders on our books as it is. The only other option i can see is to do what we did with Lodge and make him serve a 12 month probation with an affiliate club in ISC. He probably wouldnt take the offer, but thats what i'd lean towards doing.

Be mad for team culture when he’s hooking up with team mates girlfriends, getting his dick out, and taking members of the women’s team to the men’s bathroom.

I don’t think “don’t worry guys, there’s a clause in his contract to not sleep with your partner so we can sack him now” will undo all the cultural damage that would occur if he did that again.

“Sorry about the wives fellas, but he’s sacked now. so we can all just move on and pretend it never happened”

People are saying “he never did anything actually illegal” are right, but as silly as it sounds - strictly relating to team culture - he did something far worse. He dogged the boys.

Ex-teammates girlfriend, for the record, Lichaa wasn't with the Dogs anymore.

Just curious, what do you believe the chances are that he'd do anything similar again after being sacked? I would like to think that he may have learned his lesson. The whole bathroom thing with Millie was blown way out of proportion, presumably because of his track record. Even Millie said it was massively overblown. If it were any player other than Elliott they'd probably be on the cover of Woman's Day.

I don't really know how I've become the defender of Adam Elliott, I guess I just see the potential value of getting a good player on a discounted rate, at a time when we desperately need good players who are on a discounted rate.

Carrigan is not a lock, he doesn't have a single attribute that would indicate he will ever be a lock. He has no ball-playing ability, he doesn't offload, and he's not mobile enough to bust the line or cause any real problems for the opposition defense with his footwork or speed. He's about as prototypical of a prop as you can get in the modern game.

The departure of Lodge, who clogged up a lot of prop minutes over the last couple of years, will facilitate the move to prop fulltime for Carrigan next season in my opinion. Hence why I believe we'll need an actual lock on the roster next season, apart from Hetho.
You’ve seriously fallen for the classical commentator line that a player has to have ball playing to be a good lock/ a lock at all. Who won player of the season last year may I just quickly ask? Pat Carrigan, which he shared with the best forward in the entire comp - Payne Haas. In a season where so much changed and it so called ‘redefined’ the way a lock plays, he managed to dominate and get accolades playing the traditional style of lock. So cut the bullshit about him not being good enough cause he has proven very fucken clearly that he is.

The thing is whilst it’s great in hindsight, we have no bargaining power to tell him how he lives his life. Low money and no drinking means he just won’t come. It’s very different to Roberts where he was under Wayne Bennett and at the time playing for a massive club who continues to get results, that’s not the case this time around.

I dunno. Ask Dugan, Barba, Roberts, Carney, Robert Lui, Tim Smith.

You are simply incorrect.

I've never said that he's not a good player, he's a very good player. It's just that he's a prop. If Haas wore the 13 jersey all season and won player of the year I wouldn't call him a good lock either. They're both very, very clearly props.

The best locks in the competition are all extremely good at squaring the defense up and then making the decision whether to run it or play it out the back. Murray, Yeo, J.Trbojevic, Finucane, N.Brown, Radley, Watson. As good as he is, Carrigan does not have this string to his bow, and never will.

I don't think any of those guys pashed on with their mates missus at 4:00am whilst drunk. A bit different comparing that to someone who repeatedly beats women, like several of these guys have.

I understand that you're saying there's plenty of repeat offenders out there, but we're sort of comparing apples and oranges in terms of the types of incidents, and therefore character of the blokes involved.

Personally, I just don't see Elliott as good enough to risk team culture on. Yeah, he may not make a mistake again - but if he does? He was already warned multiple times about his behaviour and while this latest incident is not that bad, he just seems to be the sort of player that will find trouble/indiscretions.

The only way I would consider it would be if it was a cheap deal and he was willing to toil in Q Cup for most of that first season. See if he's really interested in staying on the straight and narrow.

This would be ideal. Unfortunately we just know that's never going to happen, there'll be some club out there who will offer him good money and a starting spot, there always is.

He's odds-on for a cut price Melb deal lol.

I just wouldn’t want a guy who pashes his mates misses at 4am in my team. What a gronk

I don't think Elliott will be short of teams interested. As mentioned he is a very good player so teams will be willing to take a punt on him... based on that I think him uprooting his life to head to SEQ on a cheap deal to revive his career with a team trying to climb their way back up the ladder is very very slim.... unless we throw serious cash at him.

I think if he's looking for a cheap deal he would head to a top club where he has an opportunity to play every week in the 17 so he can put himself on show for his next deal.

If he's after cash I think he just goes to tigers... they have money to burn and a hole at lock.

Having a quick think about team's that might be after a lock or second row and where he might want to go, I'd say rabbits would be a good option if they came sniffing around.

Koloamatangi takes up one backrow spot, but the other edge has been a bit of a merry-go-round (Sua, Arrow, Murray, Host, etc.). I'd say Elliott would quite easily fill in that role if he's happy to head there on a cheapish deal.

That would allow Murray to stay at lock and Arrow can be utilised at prop or off the bench in their middle rotation.

Elliott gets to stay in Sydney with a darling NSWRL team that is competing in finals each year

No thanks to Adam Elliott. Not good enough to be given some more rope when it comes to off field shenanigans.

I said the other day that we have two spots open for next year but forgot that Logan Bayliss is likely to be moved up to the top squad. We have one spot left. Isaako and Levi pending, of course.
