So who is it going to be (not who would you prefer, more who will the selectors go with)?

I'd say these are the options under consideration in what I think is the most likely order in selectors' minds (not my order of preference).

They will probably go Wade

My preference would be Peirson. Carey is out of form and Inglis isn't very experienced and likely to be overawed

If they don't think any of those 4 have put their hand up enough, they'll probably revert back to Wade. But I hope they don't.

I don’t think you will get to many arguments with that list I might bump Inglis up one but at the end of the day Peirson won’t get picked. It’s disappointing and he is just about my favourite player these days. But you got all these uneducated blokes on cricket calling for it to be Carey cause he hit a ton in the big bash and played a couple games in white ball cricket for Australia that’s all they know. They don’t know he can’t bat to save his life at the moment, he got dropped from Aussies shorter format cricket, his glove work is by no means superior to Peirson, Inglis or Paine (obviously is out) for that matter. It’s just like if your going to pick Carey out of form you may as well go for Peirson or Inglis cause there not going to do any worse than what Carey is going to do.

Carey is captain of Australia A is he not? If so that means Inglis probably will be keeping for Australia’s main side for the practice game. If he bats even half decently and is good with the gloves you’d think he would get the call up.

I'd prefer Inglis. Obviously we all pretty much agree it should be Jimmy but the selectors are blind so that doesn't seem likely to happen. So if it is out of Inglis and Carey, I'd prefer Inglis purely because no exposed form in red ball cricket hopefully means a better result than exposed no form.

It is possible for sure. I can see the appeal of course of giving Starc another run but with five tests on the back of almost no FC cricket for large of the chunks of the team, I don't think the three quicks will get through all five tests, so at some point Richardson will get a run anyway. I do think he offers enough of a point of a difference, as well as just being a genuine gun bowler in his own right, to play first test and also, he is much younger, so you need to start future proofing the pace attack a bit. I know Cummins is still young enough but Starc, Hazlewood and Neser are all the wrong side of 30.

Its a terrible decision. Even Brett Lee this morning said how incredibly hard it would be for a fast bowler to be captain out on the field. The useless idiots have bowed to public pressure to much here

Starc has many detractors, but his record is elite. We shouldn't be discarding a bloke like Starc because he had an average summer last year and a poor final in the T20WC.

That’s exactly why we should discard him. What are you on? The bloke hasn’t performed for years do you not remember he could barely make the team last ashes because of Peter fucken Siddle. Jhye Richardson is levels above him at the moment. Based off your theory let’s select Matthew Wade at 6 because we just want to discount his form the previous years.

So you'd get rid of one of our best fast bowlers of all time, because he had 1 summer where he averaged 40?

Starc hasn't performed in years? How about we just say he's had a bad 2021, as shown below.

Starc not playing in England was an absolute joke, not picking our biggest threat with a swinging ball in England with the duke was insanity.

You can't use my theory and apply it to Wade, because he doesn't have an amazing record and one of our highest run scorers of all time. Starc on the other hand, has an amazing record and one of our highest wicket takers of all time. This theory was used when we didn't drop Warner after he averaged 9 in the series, because of all he has done previously.

That's probably a fair change, had never really even looked in to their batting numbers. Starc is well ahead.
