Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2022

I'd sign Adam Douhi .... But I'd also feel a bit weird about it ... Tigers are on struggle street and he is one of their few shining lights... Feels bad robbing the other shitty teams. I actually hate the NRL more and more. The fact that the Roosters were able to pick up Brandon Smith says everything

That press conference was bizarre - Andre sitting up there like a rock star.

Sure was a weird one. Who else has their father there to announce it? Ponga saying he wasn't pushed means he clearly was. None of them looked happy about it to be honest and his father came across as a massive sook. I see this not ending well and him not being there all five years unless something drastic changes.

A ‘fraud’ who the Storm put up with as their CEO for a decade ?

I get that it's a super hot take. It's early days and they did well to secure Reynolds.

But things just aren't happening the way that we expected and they've made a few errors IMO. I really hope that I'm wrong and we can all come back to this and laugh at what an idiot I am when we are the best run club in the league someday.

I have. They're both frauds IMO. Something isn't right there.
Why because signing Reynolds and Capewell wasn’t enough to fix our team. They had like 4-5 months to fix the squad as well as possible. I think they did alright. It’s now down to coaching, consistency, development and relying upon players we already have to click up gears. I think we are starting to find the right pieces to put around a spine. We just have to fix the spine now. And as much as I love Kev I think the coaching staff need to go as well. Our systems, tactics and plays are dreadful right now.

I think it’s obvious our cap was cooked when they (DD, Ikin) came on board. And we just parted with a few million for a dud coach we sacked.
I think they’ve done a really good job of pushing out the dead wood in as quick and painless a way as possible - with the shortest term impact on our cap. They’ve had to do some creative roster management like loaning Arthurs and releasing Isaako, and apparently we are now under cap which will benefit us next year.

On top of that we’ve snagged Reynolds and Capewell.

Our media has far improved and so has much of the off-field stuff (local engagement).

All pretty great achievements.

The biggest flaw is the coaching staff but I suspect (hope) that despite Ikins comments their are some big names being discussed and a coaching upgrade will likely happen once the right squad is available.

Kev is being paid next to nothing to caretake a team that is absolutely in a rebuild phase despite comments.

We still need to get this cap evened out a bit more. We are still kind of out of whack. Not enough budget players and too many big earners in the wrong positions. Its why we cant afford to sign Herbie in all reality. For example, I'm not sure we can carry over a million in our cap for 2 centers, which is what we will be doing. Sadly, as good as Payne is, he isnt a match winner and we could probably get 2 props who will even out the workload for what we are paying him. Somethings got to give here and we are going to have to lose a few players we would like to keep.

The may not be happening the way some people expected but I think most people were realistic and realised exactly how fucked the club was and how long this ship would take to turn.

Sometimes the distance between hot takes and shit takes is a lot closer than people like to admit.

Signing a big name for 1m+ is not the answer to our issues, I would argue it's what got us to where we are.

Yes, Newcastle went from a non-finals team to a team that has made the 8 but really, they've never looked like getting past week 1 and last season was probably the worst we've seen in regards of the quality of teams that finished 6-8.

They're also having to give players an extra year or two to secure their services, Gagai is on a 3 year deal and I read that he would've came to us but we were only prepared to offer 2 years. Deals like that catch up to you.

I rate all our acquisitions and don’t miss anyone that’s left. I think there is an argument that our team has improved but our attitude more so on field in trying times hasn’t. Really comes down to the fact that our spine is rubbish. We don’t have enough money to have a spine and good players around them. There has to be 5 or 6 nobody’s on minimum wage in the squad so you can spend it on the spine. Players like Scarlett, Pulu, Sio, Berrell (before he went to the sharks), Luke Bateman, Nakabuwai. We already have those sort of players just some dev contracts and other T&T’s. Delouise, TMM, EQW, LBB players at the start of their career worth nothing and players at the end who have done the rounds that are great to drive standards. They need to be in the 30 squad. They play cup like they usually do but can be relied upon when and if needed. That needs to be their target get as much of the cap on the field as possible and we then get to buy the spine players. They do that and I will be delighted. A lot of the clubs up the ladder do it well. Hope DD and Ben catch on.
