Ok, so here are the players off contract by position (condensed list) and bear in mind, there will likely be some like Verrills, CNK, Simpkin who will likely be gettable because of other movements, so who should we be going after? (Full disclosure, there are others available in these positions but I've tried to condense it to those I recognise and I'm keeping kids out of it because really, we don't need more kids) and current Broncs in bold:
Fullback:
Dufty, Moylan, Hampton
Wing:
G Jennings, E Lee, Mansour, Oates, Taufua, Mead, T May, Milne, Montoya, Naiqama
Centre:
Farnworth, Moga, Opacic, Hoeter, Bird, Marsters, Tass (played for Souths last week incidentally), Musgrove, Talau
Five-Eighth:
Foran, Milford, Harris-Tevita, Nikorima, Walters
Halfback:
Crossland, Taylor, Lam, O'Sullivan, Wakeham
Prop:
Alvaro, Boyle, Ese'ese, A Fifita, Gilbert, James, Kennedy, McLean, Pere, Suluka-Fifita, Tamou, Taupau, Tolman, Vaughan, Wallace, Palasia

So, I'd be interested in:

What has happened to Tommy Talua.
Id also sign fainu in a heartbeat if he came back.
If we loose Herbie we probably should look for another wing/centre, I don't know if Mariner will be ready to step up full time next year.
But we definitely need a specialist fullback on our list whether that's Walsh or a depth option and a 9 aswell.
Like those people that death rode Kevvie- then suddenly rewrite history.
And Lockyer who is on the board.

He’s been out for a while and it could mean he won’t resurrect his career but he could genuinely be NRL ready by next season. I genuinely think he is a great spine option either at 6 or 1

Our all round fullback depth is shocking. We have basically no one that can play the position well. If there is an opportunity to get Reece back we need to do everything we can to make it happen.
I'd be keeping Jesse Arthars after his warriors stint as well. He can play wing, center and fullback so he provides a lot of utility value if brought into the team and spots may be open if Herbie, Oates, etc. leave
I'd take a guy like McGuire back as well... he'd be a solid every game prop to have coming off the bench, and probably won't break the bank anymore. Dolphins might be on the look out as well.
I'd have a look at Niko, but concern about how much he wants. Again I think Dolphins would be keeping an eye on him.
I'd consider Opa as a handy back up, but I reckon he's $1.01 for the Dolphins.
Edrick possibly, but I reckon he'd want too much cash after his origin appearance and grabbing that starting spot for the knights.... but it comes down to what our plan is for our wings anyway. Are we keeping Oates, Mead, Pereira, etc.? Is Herbie staying? Selwyn looks destined to move away from the wing... so reinforcements may be needed.

Manly ain't letting him go... they've been keeping him on the books for this long in the hope that he comes back and have been using a makeshift hooker for a few years instead of recruiting one.
They went all in on him a few years back and I don't think they would be all that keen to just let him go now.

I actually really like Wishart I actually rate that option. Verrills, Berrell, Simpkin would all be upgrades. Fullback for mine would be Walsh and CNK probably nobody else is worth it maybe Allan if you can get a good 6 to partner Reynolds because he has been successful off the back of strong halves pairings before. 6 would have to be Hunt, Doueih or possibly Drinkwater to make it worthwhile for Mam to wait.
Answering your last question the reality is you just have to push buttons. Get in these players minds that if you come play for us you will get a spot. If they were all starting, or in there preferred position it would probably lean towards the unethical side but the NRL needs talent to be dispersed and these players are of NRL level so if it means leaving contracts early and getting into discussions with other clubs about facilitating such moves by all means we should do it. These clubs won’t be that desperate to hold onto players that are playing reserves with the coin (not that it is immense amounts) they are on to free up some space for juniors to come through and (re-/)sign more important players.

I think it is good to bolster the overall quality of the squad for sure but if we are losing Herbie and Oates, two of our better players, what does that really matter?
There’s no gun players available that will come to us except maybe Walsh. I feel like hooker is the spot we can definitely get an improvement though. Aside from Walsh, the fullback options are pretty thin unless a punt on Allan works.
Looking at what’s realistically available, it’s all pretty dire and if Herbie and Corey leave, that’s two good players we also need to somehow replace. Give us some positive news club.
