I don't really understand why these rumours are getting around now, and it wasn't mentioned in B&M's piece, but Selwyn is tied down for another season yet. He's not even on the market.
Note wording used in the article body, as distinct from the headline:
"One club has discussed signing Cobbo to a five-year contract worth $900,000 a season."
Discussing isn't the same as tabling a
formal offer. So I'm treating this as beer talk.
Next, it mentions this is "based on Cobbo moving from wing to fullback."
And finally, the amount thrown up of $4.5M works out to $900k a year, but that doesn't mean he gets $900k
per year. If we're to take it seriously, it will be tiered. So what would Selwyn be worth two years from now? $700k doesn't seem unreasonable, then tier it from there until you get to top dollar for the Kangaroo fullback in 6 years time. Figure in inflation, and it's not such an unreasonable guestimate. Albeit it at the top end of what you'd project him to be worth.
I'm not saying it's a legit story - it's a rumour - but it's not out of the realms of feasible.
