OFFICIAL Walsh signs with the Broncos until 2025

Today's piece says the Broncos see Ezra as a future 7 and Walsh as a possible future 6.
Of course, making those noises keeps everyone happy and competing for spots.

Warriors released an official statement 30 minutes ago.

George also confirmed incumbent fullback Walsh, who is contracted for 2023 with an option for 2024, had indicated his wish to stay in Australia.

“There has been a major change in Reece’s personal circumstances in the past two months which have impacted on his ability to move to Auckland with the club next season,” he said.

“We’re working through his situation and have given him permission, with some conditions, to look at options in Brisbane. It’s not the way either Reece or the club had wanted this to play out but we respect the issues he has.”
This sounds suspiciously like he wont be staying in Auckland this year for much longer...

Frankly, i couldnt be more pleased by the fact i hear or see virtually nothing from DD or Ikin....until stuff like this breaks...

And then you know they are simply doing their job.

I think i mentioned on here actually the fact that as soon as Reynolds stepped foot in the place the succession planning for him needs to begin...

And thats precisely what the clubs doing...

This is the wording from the CM.

"Walsh’s Broncos deal will not break the bank. It will not greatly exceed the value of his existing Warriors contract, which is worth around $400,000 a season."

That sounds like a 450k deal which I think is really good business.

I wouldn't put much weight on that other than we are likely to get him cheaper than the Dolphins are prepared to pay. If that's true - and I wouldn't bet too highly on it - that might not bode well for us. We might end up with another Payne situation. Which might be fine if we just have to throw something closer to market value at him a year or two down the track. But not if it starts causing ruckus.

I think that's his value for now, but if he actually takes him game to the next level, I'd have zero issues with the club giving him an upgrade. If he works his way up to be an elite fullback, he'll be upgraded for the final year with an extension to 800k, but there's a long way between now and then.

It's good to see he isn't chasing the money. He could get a lot more than just above $400,000 anywhere else. You could see some bottom of the ladder club giving him closer to a million. Could be a sign that he has changed for the better and is maturing.

A great move by Walter,Ikin and DD he's a terrific player and can be a great player if he puts in the work with the club when he comes back. I would say it's TTM that we'll be losing next year and possibly Herbie. Walsh is a fullback of the future and with kevie and Reynolds on our books he can achieve greatness.
A spine of Walsh, Mam, Reynolds and Mozzer for possibly next year if all are ready and keen will be storm 2.0. Cobbo didn't seem too keen to play fullback so bring him to the centres with Staggs.
1.Walsh

3.Staggs
4.Cobbo
5.??
6.Mam
7.Reynolds
8.Haas

Thats an amazing and even scary kind of team on paper, that will bring us a premiership.

The funniest thing in this saga is the Warriors fans expecting compensation, **** me, seriously?

How many players have we released and not received a single thing in return for from them? Go as far back as Nikorima if you want to and it's not like he's taking off mid-season

Damn, it's weird reading those articles saying "he's a good kid" and "needs to take care of his baby daughter".

Exactly.

This is insanely amazing business. Absolutely speaks volumes for where we are going as a club. We are now getting players to stay / go to the club again for unders and are on the way up. Wow!
I'm not sure about "unders." I'm a little bit leery of the idea we might be underpaying our staff, especially if they wind up feeling that way. Whether we are or not, that's another subject.

But bringing Walsh back in an NRL-ready state, without having to break the bank undoes one of only two cockups - in my mind - under Kevvie's tenure. The other is hiring his son, which as yet doesn't look like a cockup, and it's keeping the pair of them happy.

The hard truth is we don’t really need another fullback. Unless the club thinks Herbie isn’t up to it, and they have other plans for Selwyn.
Let be real here...we don't currently have ANY fullbacks.

Cobbo might become a fullback
Herbie might become a fullback
Mead is a winger and not far from retirement
Niu might become a fullback, he has had half a good game for us, then got injured.
TMM is the pick of the lot, has done an admirable job, but is a 5/8 and is not currently signed for next year.

Personally, I'd be fine with TMM staying longer term as FB and then slugging it out with Cobbo or Herbie for FB or moving into the halves when Reynolds is injured/retires or Mam needs a break.

Seem to remember Ikin saying “ Kevin thinks about what’s happening next week, I think about what’s happening next year “

Why can't we just leave Herbie in the centres.......?

Cobbo stays on the wing......

Excited about Walsh coming back......
