Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2023

More average metres, more tries (I think) and more consistently good defense.
I'll give him run meters but defence can be argued and tries are up significantly this year but overall not better. I get the buzz but to say he's he's better than Kotoni is a strech atm.

Yea Herbie was far more consistent this season. Staggs probably has the higher ceiling.

If we lose Herbie I’d like to see the club go after and established centre to replace him. I’m getting bored of watching young talented players leave just as they reach the age where they are hitting their straps

Yeah well I didn’t say that did I. My wording might not have been great for what I meant but it definitely was not that. I think you are really misunderstanding my point and maybe perhaps the point of Johnny’s post. What he insinuated was that by shifting Walsh to 6 our playmaking would improve and somehow compensate for Herbie becoming a 1 - which outside of stupid comparisons to Manu we have absolute zero knowledge of his ability there. So please for the love of god tell me how his solution of:

7. Reynolds
6. Walsh
1. Herbie

is better than

7. Reybolds
6. Mam
1. Walsh

or even

7. Reynolds
6. Mam
1. Herbie

He picked the worst option we possibly could have chucked up from these players in terms of nearly every category and thought not only would it improve playmaking which it didn’t it had the worst amount but it was somehow the ideal solution.

If anyone thinks the ideal solution is anything but Reyno, Mam and Walsh well **** me I dont know what to do anymore. If we make top 6 I reckon Reece Walsh is in the top 10 Dally M votes, I will go out on a limb and say that.

I have seen some absolutely ludacrous opinions on Herbie playing fullback just so we can keep him. He would be my 3rd option so NO THANK YOU. Like I’m seeing people try and use it as a way to lower his value but not only can the opposite happen but why the **** are we wanting a player to fail in such an important position, it would mean we as a team fail. My opinion is he is a great centre and that works for us, I can’t even see a reason why he would go to the right. Obviously he is outperforming Staggs but that doesn’t give him a preferential option especially when we all know he is 10 months away from fucking off. He has performed excellently on the left and just cause he enjoys the right more doesn’t mean he is better there, same goes for Fullback. Leave our backline as is and bring in Walsh at fullback. Obviously the narrative is that Walsh doesn’t have a mortgage on the spot within theory he might not but at the end of the day regardless of the way he or anyone else performs this off season our biggest signing after another clusterfuck season (more so the finish) is not missing the team for an experimental player who is about to **** off whilst recently being on a decently long term injury and won’t return to training until a month or two out from pre-season trials. Just not happening.

Also I’m not going to get into the Penrith part cause you know very well that we cannot compare anything that is happening there to here and expect good results to come from basing it around there style.

I think the suggestion was based on the Penrith model and Herbie being "Edwards like'" potentially.

If Reynolds and Walsh create, then you can have a running fullback that makes metres, breaks tackles and covers 8km a game.

If your halves are creative your fullback probably doesn't need to be an outstanding playmaker, but you still want him to be able to sum up the numbers and be able to draw and pass. You don't want a ball hog.

Dude Herbie is an absolute demon in defence. Very few if any get past him

Staggs has improved his defence a bit, but he’s still not anywhere close to Herbie on the defensive side of things, but granted he does have the tougher side as most teams naturally play to the their left

Herbie plays on a side with Capewell and oates which is far superior to Kotoni's side.
he missed his fair share of tackles leading to try's. he's still got plenty to prove both sides of the coin.

Yes currently
1. Walsh
6. Mam
7. Reynolds
Is our best combination but IF Herbie gets a trial at fullback which there is a chance he does and if he kills it moving Walsh to 6 is the better solution than Mam as he's the better ball player out of the 2 at this stage.
A fullback doesn't need to create when the 6 and 7 can Penrith are a example of this as to are the roosters.
Never did I say 1. Herbie 6. Walsh 7. Arey was our better option over Walsh, Mam, Reynolds.
But if somehow Herbie got the 1 Jersey Walsh is the better option at 6 over Mam.

This exactly. We absolutely have to stop being a feeder club to vultures out there who doesn’t want to do the “development” but rather just want to poach by blabbering about their dubious culture and false promises. I want us to hold on to Herbie for long.

But then we probably lose Mam - who was one of the most promising young kids in the comp last season, especially in the spine - and people will rightfully lose the plot.

EDIT: Additonally, there's no evidence that Herbie would be a good fullback whereas we know that Walsh can be incredible in the position. We're talking about a kid who was picked for origin after seven FC games. Even his form last year in an atrocious warriors side where he was expected to create most of their points was very good imo.

Yeah but if Walsh can actually succeed at the role and be a threat at 6 then we won't need Ezra.

All this talk about Herbie playing fullback and it doesn't even exist because he's shown signs that he would be quality in that position. The only reason we're talking about it at all is because he has said he wants to play there and the media have latched on to it to run with "Broncos in turmoil" bullshit headlines, and we're sitting here scared shitless of losing yet another elite player to some other fuckwit club with a silver spoon in its mouth like the Sombreros or The, the overall cohesion of the side be damned.

If what Farnworth wants and what the club needs are incompatible, then there is only one resolution: he walks. Why should Mam get the shaft after showing such great potential as a 6 because another player wants the club to take a punt on him in a particular position on nothing but a wing and a prayer? Farnworth has shown himself to be an effective centre.....So be an effective centre. You're lucky to be in the NRL at all, nevermind in a position to be making unreasonable demands of a club that hasn't played Finals in 3 years and already bleeds talent like a ruptured artery.

One problem ...
Ezra can make effective tackles in the front line . Walsh ????

Rothfield rumour confirmed. The Broncos have granted Tesi permission to talk to other clubs immediately, but will honour his contract if no one will have him.

News Corp:

"News Corp can reveal Niu may have played his last game for the Broncos after his management sought permission to explore the open market immediately — a request authorised by Brisbane hierarchy."

Wayne Bennett:

“I didn’t realise Tesi had been given permission to negotiate with other clubs, but if he is available, yes we’re interested in him. I haven’t seen a lot of Tesi but what I have seen of him, I have liked. I didn’t know Brisbane were prepared to let him go but we’ll have a talk internally and make a decision on whether to sign him. There’s no deal done with Tesi, but he has something to offer and he is one guy we will look to talk to when the time is right.”

Kevin Walters:

“It’s always good to have competition for spots but I know they all can’t play first grade. Tesi has finished with the World Cup, he is having a break now and we will sit down when he comes back in the New Year and have a chat and see where he is at. Tesi certainly has talent. He can play in the halves as well as fullback and centre, so if he is prepared to work hard and wants to keep playing here, there will be opportunities for him.”

Walsh:

“I hope Tesi sticks around because he’s an awesome player and one of my good mates. I love being around him. We haven’t played too much footy together yet but he’s an awesome player. I hope he doesn’t go. We’re going in the right direction. All of us young boys are pushing each other and trying to make each other better. I hope Tesi stays around long-term because we’ve got an awesome club here.
“We can do something special.”
