Clearly this was all orchestrated by Big Chicken Sandwich. I haven't ever seen so many mentions of chicken sandwiches in such a short period ever. They've really got their money's worth.

Anyway, gotta run, got a real craving for a chicken sandwich.

Great to hear Mozer was treated fairly. The similarities between Karl and Sam’s situation is the concern.

From your knowledge what interactions did Karl receive? Did Kev meet with him to discuss his plans for the future? Reynolds maybe? Was Ballen heavily involved with him?

Why does Mariner want to leave too if the Broncos don’t have room to improve in this space?

I am just pointing out the same people, on the same day at the same time went from a meeting with Mozer to meeting with Karl where they completely changed their attitude and skills.

Ikin is great mates with Ben and is like a proud uncle with Sam, he would have known about the errors of the past long before anyone and I find it hard to believe he would get the gig at Brisbane and repeat them with Karl.

So @1910 tells us that Mozer and Karl were done the same day or at least similar time and the way it was handled according to Kylo are totally chalk and cheese.

Yet you hold to what happened with Sam as being the same despite it being years ago under a totally different regime.

I don’t think anything we say is going to change your mind though.

I’m not exactly blaming the club, I’m saying regardless of who is at fault, the victim mentality or the mentality of “there’s nothing we could’ve done” won’t lead to any improvements.

I guess you could call it “bagging” but really it’s just holding the club accountable and having high standards. I think there are many worse clubs than the broncos but being the best of the bad clubs isn’t really the goal is it? The club should be aiming to be the best and you won’t get there without being comfortable with harsh truths.

There are heaps of positives at the club. Like the fact we identified and signed Karl to begin with - the issue is we didn’t stick the landing.
Seems to be a disconnect between sales and product. They clearly wanted to retain this kid, but somehow were not able to deliver on their initial promises and/or effectively sell the club and its pathway. If it's purely about the club not being able to afford what a kid they need can pull on the open market, then they have to seriously up their game in sales. And that will require putting a picture in the kid's head where in two years' time, he's ahead of where he'd be if he went elsewhere.

We don't know if the line about him wanting to play in one position and the club forcing him to play in another is genuine, but that would have to be the easiest persuasion of any obstacle. Like I said, bring someone like Wally and Locky into the room. Show him how you can start in one position, move to another and end up with statues of yourself outside the stadium.

Surely, if they tell him the best way for him to break into the team is to come from the bench as a utility and that would require him mastering both dummy half and the halves, and preparing his body for defence (one of the main reasons he's in demand). Then it's just a matter of proving he should be the first pick.

It's not that it's the "club's fault" but it looks like the club did a poor job of getting their dream to become his dream.

Did you miss the bit where Mozer didn't need to be sold a different pathway to his preferred position?

I think most of us agree that the club has probably done something poorly here.

I can’t explain why Kevvie didn’t meet this kid, that seems a big error
Exactly

I could have a guess. Something about how he’s a utility and other people at the club wanted him to play hooker? Maybe? Hehe.

I find it laughable the notion this was all caused by Kev not meeting the bloke. Nothing at all to do with a new manager, or him wanting to play 6, or him wanting a spot in the top 30.

Nah. It was just the meeting with Kev. The renowned good bloke but not a good coach. Keep clutching people.

No one is saying that. None of us know the story, and the meme about it all being a greedy manager was made up in here by disgruntled fans and is now presented like canon. Maybe it's true, but don't pretend it's the whole picture.

The current indignity is that a few of us aren't reflexively dissing Denan Kemp - one of the the club's most vocal fans - for him saying things don't seem quite right there.

Did you miss the part where he SIGNED a contract?
Of course not. Did you miss the part where he was trying to break the contract on the grounds there wasn't a meeting of minds? But most of all, did you miss the part where he said he was unhappy? Do you want an unhappy player?

The alleged positional spot, they let Gray go because they had Karl in the halves coming through with him. You'd take from that him playing a position wasn't set in stone or they thought of him at 6.

Karl played 13 for Queensland and was great at it, went back to six for Australia but I thought he was great at 13 and he combined so well with HInchey all season, so he understands the position.

It's not crazy to have a kid and say thought you were great at 13 for Queensland we think that might be your spot as you get bigger.

And yet he’s willing to go into a meeting with his family on the same day to formalise terms already agreed to with a former manager who he decides to sack on the morning of said contract signing.

I mean unless you are a moron, it doesn’t take much to realise this document he’s talking about didn’t just materialise from thin air.

I mean, seriously, who goes in to sign a contract without already knowing the primary details? It isn’t like he was on his own here, he had family with him.

You honestly believe he was blindsided in all of this despite being the one to instigate sacking of a manager, etc?

Again it is all he said, she said. You guys position us as saying we think the club has no blame, we aren’t saying that. What we are saying is that under this regime and given all the circumstantial evidence, we are willing to side with the club.

You guys are saying given what Kylo is saying and given something happened with Sam years ago under a different regime, and because we get yet another reason to pile on Kevvie, it is primarily the club’s fault.

The reality is, the kid signed a contract, we had clearly delivered on something and then another club came in coupled with a new manager telling him he could get more money elsewhere and suddenly he is agitating for a release.

The only confirmed thing I think the club did wrong here is accepting / asking for his signature while manager-less and I doubt they’ll make that mistake again.

However, I also wouldn’t be surprised to find out they said to this kid, hey let’s wait until you have a new manager and this kid and his family pushed to get it done and then suddenly, the story has changed. This part though is pure conjecture on my end and I could totally be wrong but I also think our club is on the up, so I’m willing to accept failings under a prior regime are not to be held against a totally new regime…unless Karl Morris was involved.

If none of us know the story, then why are we placing the blame on the Broncos?

I don't listen to any NRL podcasts (or any podcasts for that matter) so I don't really care what Denan is or isn't saying. It's 21st century tabloid shit that you're all lapping up to get your outrage fix.
