Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2023

I recall you talking him up at the beginning of last season, but his form - in between injuries - was adequate, I guess. Probably the best of the three, but there wasn't a lot to get excited about in that position.

I'm hoping Madden is getting a shot at 14.

Another turn a half into a hooker project ?
I thought you didn`t like that path ?

I wanna see Jock over take Captn / Coach Reynolds for the # 7 . Later this season or early next .

Nope. I'm talking about a 14 who plays more like a half and doesn't come on until the forwards are tired, rather than a second 9 who plays 40 minutes. It's not a long term role.

think ben hunt is as good as he is because of that time early on in his career
Yes, someone who comes on late, is unpredictable, nearly always looks like scoring or setting up a try, but doesn't need to carry the defence. Last one we had was Segeyaro, but even he didn't quite click.

I think Ezra would've benefited from being eased into the team from 14. He'd be perfect in that role, but that horse has long bolted. We also didn't/don't even have a 65 minute hooker.

Realistically I'm resigned to Paix and Walters playing carbon copy tag team until something breaks.

either something breaks or one or the other steps up and plays at a higher level

Like how Gamble played that time he came off the bench?
I'm all for Madden having a crack at that role

4. Herbert Farnworth 8.5/10
One of the best young backs in the comp on his day. Strong defender, huge output, and has big plays in him. Just needs to learn to set up his winger.

This isn't U12 Met East it's Under 19 and 18 Origin and Junior Kangaroos. The QRL go to huge lengths to have emerging camps and identify the players months out and bring them in around Origin mentors. 30 players went to U18 Emerging camp last season and 28 Under 19.

It's taken very seriously. The selectors watch every Mal Meninga game and SG Ball or Flegg if it's relevant.

Interesting listening to Bloke in a bar with Ben Hannant .
He couldn`t make a rep side till he was 17 .

Not sure of the relevance.

Hannant made the Australian schoolboys in 2002. Toured England.

Just the threat of Herbie is enough to create space for Ezra to throw cut out passes to Oates who then scores .

Three card trick .

Yeah but he wants him to do fancy flicks and all that shit, despite being one of the strongest carriers we have in our team.

I dont care about fancy flicks but more ability to draw and pass is a must for any centre for me.
Farnsworth is a great centre in defence and good runner which is fine but developing his ability to use oates would see him able to write his own pay cheque and be one of our greats.
I think he is ahead of staggs in terms of importance to this team but i realise im in a minority on that.
He certainly is terrific player off the field and should be used more in club promotion.

In fairness to @BroncosFever the few times Herbie has attempted a "fancy flick" it's resulted in a try

But yeah, minimum attacking requirements:

Centre: draw defence, offload, try; split defence, dummy, try.
Depth prop: strong carry, hang onto it.
Winger: catch, try.

Herbie is a try to split the defence 1st type centre .
Passing is secondary . He def has the skills . It`s a mindset thang .

Brenko is a set up the winger type centre .
