I dunno. What benefits did the dolphins ever receive all the times players left them to play nrl? As I said, doesn’t have to be much but they were picked apart too before they joined remember.
Different comparison, you have clubs develop players with the intention to compete in the elite competition of the game in this club and a club that was developing players to the lower level competition in Queensland and the reality was those players would move onto the NRL regardless if presented the opportunity.

Redcliffe now are in a position to benefit from that development with players being brought upto the NRL from their junior base, a club like the Titans and others starting from the ground up didn't enjoy that benefit upon their entry, they didn't get those benefits some think the Dolphins should.

That said I'm all for a system where clubs in the Host Cup etc being compensated appropriately for their development contributions. That I don't have a problem with.

I've been thinking about what an ideal free agency system would look like all off-season.

As a fan, I hate seeing teams torn apart. Clubs should be able to retain their best 13 players and anyone outside of that should be free game. It's just a matter of when you lock that in and I have three periods in mind.

At the end of the season, you lock in players you wish to keep. If there are positions clubs are unsure of they leave those blanks and now those players are up for free agency.

Clubs can then assemble their desired team with the players available and lock in that team afterwards.

Then mid-season you'd have a one week period where clubs could offer up players for free agency if they've been usurped.

You could add a forth period after the trials in case you have a bolter but realistically you should have your best 13 in mind well before that point.

As far as the juniors, clubs should have 30 players from U/18s - U/21s who are locked in. If these players can't crack the best 13 by 22, they're free to explore their options and go to another club. These players can still play NRL at 18 but if you pick a Karmichael Hunt over a Motu Tony, Tony is free to leave. However if you want to take your time and develop these players properly you can.

Personally I'm fine with free agency to be a free for all, and if the Roosters want to give up Sam Verrills to sign Brandon Smith let them. However I think fans want a draft where an expansion team like The Dolphins could sign Smith.

Now this would rob players of their agency so it would never work, but I just wonder what would make the fans happy?

These miserable ***** on 360 are unbelievable lol I swear to god, unless Red Hill is burning down, they don't want a bar of us. We just got done beating the B2B premiers at home in Round 1 and all they want to talk about it Penrith.

The extent of it was..."the broncos were good"

They'll likely talk about it more tomorrow or something with some of their other guest panelists. Might even get Kev or Reynolds on.

I have a feeling that because NewsCorp owns the Broncos, they only benefit from selling Broncos drama, so you won't be seeing anything positive as it probably just doesn't sell. Now I only have a hole in the back of my pants to back that up, but that hole has been right a good 30% of the time.

Wolfie also makes a good point, the Dolphins are a club with a very long established history in the game, they aren't a Titans side starting from the bottom up to develop a club and a junior base. I don't think in a situation like that the Dolphins really do need a leg up.

I think purely because of the time constraints in getting a squad together they should have got a little help personally. If they got the same amount of time the Titans did i dont think they would need any help.

lol at Rothfield talking about how the Phins clearly out-rated us.

maybe wait for a season to see if they'll still be clearly out-rating us over a full season. not just their first ever game.

He seemed to just ignore this part lol. It was their first ever game and a part of Rugby League history...of course everyone is going to watch it.

Buzz is completely cooked... he has completely exaggerated the numbers to make it sound like club in crisis or our game was one of the lowest for the weekend... NRL journos continuing to be a scum of the earth

talking about the Dolphins being the highest rating game ever on Fox ... it wasn't even the highest of the weekend.

p.s. every game on that graphic was #1 at something ... except the Storm game, lol

First game of the new season with a big dog Sydney team and no AFL on, and Melbourne as a draw card couldn't out rate us.... but apparently one of the highest membership teams in the comp.

Funniest thing for me is the fans talking up the 30k at Suncorp as some sort of ground breaking figure.

That's our average attendance.

Not to mention all the Broncos fans who already know how to access games for freeeee

Also, many have a life on Friday night compared to a Sunday arvo.

This is also just Foxtel/Kayo. E.g. Broncos got an additional 389,000 viewers on 9 (not sure that includes though the app either). Dolphins game got an additional 371,000.

In conclusion, the Broncos v Panthers game was the most watched of the round.

The Bulldogs have appealed against the NRL's decision to put about $200k of Josh Jackson's wage into the Bulldogs salary cap.

despite retiring Josh Jackson is still working for the Bulldogs as a strength and conditioning coach.

Gould is whinging about it

"It's a stupid rule, we've appealed it and they haven't responded, as well," Gould said.

"We'll leave it there."

Who couldn't predict this was the case.

Jackson was still playing reasonably well last year and getting through 80mins every week... then suddenly retires.

Dogs clearly needed the cap space and then gave him a cushy job afterwards.

Gould has nothing to complain about because the same happened with Inglis when he retired... he was given a job by Souths and the money went on the cap.

What I would say about this one is there's no job that Josh Jackson could be doing for the club to be earning $200k a year... so it's a blatant rort

Gould also complaining about the concussion hysteria and who the NRL have given way to; like media, DOCTORS and lawyers and all this misinformation.

says that the independent doctor in the bunker is the "greatest abomination perpetrated on our game in history"

Gould will flip-flop and retroactively reinterpret his way to always being right without fail. Captain Hindsight! I'm sure he has spoken about "player safety coming first" and probably also has encouraged his players to adopt the different tackling styles that lead to slower rucks while simultaneously increasing the risks of head contact. He is a vain man.
