2023 State of Origin Discussion

I think Hopgood will make the team this year on the bench in some capacity, watching Parra games this year he has honestly had the team on his back, his ball playing has been the best I've seen this season from a 13 soo far.
Thoughts on his defence? He misses way too many tackles to be considered for an origin middle spot. I think people are going to confuse his SuperCoach scores with playing ability.

He definitely has potential, but he isn't really too close to being a middle for QLD ahead of our current lot.

We really need some centres coming though. Gagai is getting too old and slow. Brenko is not Origin standard.

Who are other options? Hammer? Not sure his defence will be up to it.

1. Ponga/Walsh
2. Cobbo
3. Holmes
4. Gagai
5. Oates
6. Munster
7. DCE
8. Welch
9. Hunt
10. Tino
11. Capewell
12. Nanai
13. Carrigan

14. Grant
15. Collins
16. Cotter

Jack Howarth at the Storm is coming through and will be a star imo, but hasn't even debuted yet.

I haven't even looked at his Super coach stats(I don't bother with NRL fantasy), he has been pretty bad with missed tackles but he is comparable to Gilbert who is on similar Efficiency.

Both of them if put in Origin will be bench options at most though which would help in defence somewhat.

Cobbo, Howarth, J.Fifita I guess are the ones coming through. All at this point a bit makeshift

Howarth isn't a centre; he spent the last two years being stuffed around in the centres and then last year gets picked for Queensland at second row and Storm moved him back after that.

He's Queensland and Australian Second row but centre for ISC- blows my mind and one of my biggest whinges the last two years.

I think it's set him back massively.

Capewell keeps defending the way he has been for Brisbane and he should lose his Origin spot.

I can't see Ponga taking the 1 back even if he gets cleared to play after his 11 day break.

It's only been 2 rounds and Walsh has done more then Ponga has done in the league since he joined Newcastle.

1. Walsh (If Ponga is not fit)
2. Oates (Coates or Hammer if not fit)
3. Gagai
4. Holmes
5. Cobbo
6. Munster
7. DCE
8. Collins
9. Hunt
10. Papali'i
11. Capewell
12. Nanai
13. Carrigan

14. Grant
15. Tino
16. Cotter
17. Gilbert/Arrow

They aren't going to change the team from game 3 last year. And they shouldn't either.

They may start Kaufusi with Nanai on the bench but I doubt it considering Nanai's performance in game 3.

Will be interesting to see which way they go. Campbell Graham was very good on the right wing for Australia, I'd be leaning that way if I was Fred.

1. James Tedesco (c)
2. Brian To'o
3. Latrell Mitchell
4. Tom Trbojevic
5. Campbell Graham
6. Nicho Hynes

Lot of soy in that team

If Walsh isn't the first selected and Ponga is picked over him I won't even watch the games.

I think Walsh needs to keep the form though, Hammer at this stage would be right on his heels, what favours Walsh, is by picking him Hammer can also be on the side as a Winger, Walsh would be a FB or nothing, Unless Billy wants to go experimental and use him as a 14 like Ponga was used years ago for some later game impact.
