Smoothy has officially signed a three year contract with Wakefield Trinity.

Smoothy has officially signed a three year contract with Wakefield Trinity.

Seems insane that no other NRL clubs have snapped him up.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he isn't in the team, but.... wtf has happened to fletcher baker? Lol

Got some Mozer intel for BHQ. (My wife works with his GF.)

Good news. Very likely to re-sign, currently negotiating. He wants to stay. Wouldn't be surprised if it's announced soon'ish once they come to an agreement.

Bad news, his injury is quite bad apparently - could potentially miss the whole season. They are currently debating on whether to go ahead with surgery or not. I know this was sort of "unconfirmed" news already but to hear it from her just re-affirms it.
was hoping to see Mozer play this year, I think he would have gone great with experience around him

Cursed, imo Worth a game to see how it holds up, if bad surgery, if not delay, he will need the surgery regardless but if later in the season it won't effect the next still.

Lol. I mean yeah I believe that's what they're actually weighing up. If he gets surgery it's basically season over with recovery time.

Or let it heal naturally and potentially return earlier. But more risky as the potential to injure it again is higher.

I don't know the specifics though and this is second hand info so don't quote me on it. Although kinda speaks volumes that there is no official announcement from the club about it yet, leads me to believe his gf was accurate.

Dr Mustafur !
players have played with the same injury before, but it does obviously depend on how serious it is, he is in a key part of his career getting established in first grade and he would want to get in as many games as possible, if it is possible.

Following on from the last couple years I've put together the current progress of roster balance following a post of @Big Pete a couple years back (here).

What I find interesting is the change in balance from 2020/2022 where there was a lot of youth and inexperience compared to now where we have guys moving through the years into the more experienced area beyond 3 years... 3 years being the league wide average career length.

However, it also shows the amount of time it takes for a development club like the broncos to bring a core group of players through and because of that the veterans and seasoned bands have been quite low, but are building up recently and are made up of guys that have come through over the last 5yrs with more to come. The bolded guys below are still in the squad and it's a nice visual to see their development through the rookie years and beyond.

I also noticed that we seem to struggle keeping guys prior to the 100 game mark, which usually aligns with players entering their prime physical years, but also being pretty well experienced with NRL. There's been noticeable losses in these brackets over the years like Herbie and Flegler recently, but also others like Fifita, Palasia, Ofa, TPJ, Isaako, TMM, Lodge, etc.

There are reasons why some of them have come and gone, but it means broncos spent time getting them through the brackets, but for whatever reason they didn't stay and progress into the seasoned 100+ game bracket with the club.

That can be difficult to manage with a roster.. you have these guys that you've invested time into to get them near 100 games, only for them to leave the club... you then need to replace that experience and in most cases that replacement is youth because we are a development club.

I've looked at the balance of other clubs around the league and you see rorters and panthers have a heavy skew in these 100 gamers area, and to me that's probably the spot that has been lacking over the years for us... and if we are looking to recruit outside of the system then targetting those types of players is probably the spot to look at rather than looking at potential from other clubs and trying to bring them into the system... just go out and get established first graders to supplement the guys coming through... easier said than done though.

Edit: Table probably hard to read so here's a screenshot of spreaddy

Interesting listening to Thomas Flegler on Kevvies pod cast . He came into 1st grade and they won the spoon . He thought his career was over .

I've added two more years for Blake Mozer based on the PETER BADEL EXCLUSIVE. Nothing from the club yet.

Staggs can't be far away.

Just had a look at every team’s back row this week for rnd 5.
Warriors have the bye, not included.

Even with a fit Riki, on current form, I am really struggling to find a back row duo worse than ours.

Cowboys, maybe?!

I know I’m critical of the 4 potatoes that are currently eating away at the Broncos salary cap under the guise of being first grade footballers, but am I far off?!
I would rather have the Parra or St Merge back row than ours.

yeah our second rowers aren't world beaters, but Riki is still an international team player in spite of what many here say about him.

But... our front row is elite. We have two of the games senior halves. Walsh, Cobbo, Staggs out the back.

We have something like 11 current/former state or International rep players in our squad. We can't have the best all over the park, that's what the salary cap is for.
