OFFICIAL 2025 State of Origin - Game I Discussion

You missed the blatant square up 6 agains to even up the count at the end of game.

We got 2 penalties and 2 6 agains out of our total of 9 in the last 40 secs before half time.
They rewarded NSW for that by not giving the penalty try.

That right there is exactly why I don't watch games anymore.

Six again has cost the NRL so many fans. It’s ruined its own product. Meanwhile the guy responsible for it continues to get smoke blown up him because the media are scared of him.

League is in a truly awful state when even origin doesn’t excite like it used to, not even close.

I bet many of us couldn’t be bothered watching last night

Not sure if it’s just me or someone else noticed too but the camera angles throughout the game are odd to say the least. For some reason, it looked weird and I didn’t get the feeling that I was watching a live SOO game. The worst of all, the C9 commentary.
It’s horrendous ffs.

The man caller though, boy, no moron can match him. He’s is a total biased nut case. Had watched the game on mute from 10th minute.

He has just lost the vote to sell Rose Hill racetrack.
It probably means he will leave NSWRacing and be full time at the NRL.
Financially he has done well for the NRL but he is all about profit above anything else and if he feels the "product" needs to change to sell it for more he won't hesitate to tweak the rules like he did with the 6 again.

Queensland's attack needs a re-think. One try since 67th minute in game two last year shows it's just not working.

One try in 173 minutes.

It just looks like the canvas is too blank and they're just relying on brilliance and you're not going to break down an Origin defence like that.

They need a plan to get Hammer and Ponga the ball in situations that suit them.

It must be a generational thing. Attendances, TV audiences, participation numbers, revenue and assets all seem to be up under this administration.

I think it has cost the game a lot of hardcore fans like us, who analyse everything in depth to the point we actually go on to the internet to discuss it with strangers. But 98% of "fans" are there for the entertainment and that's why the game is having huge success with numbers and dollars. Most people don't give a shit about the details, they just want to watch their team win, and even if the winners and losers are determined by engagement metrics and deep-seated politics, they don't even want to know because "Closest comp EVA". A bottom 4 team can jag a highly suspect win against a genuine contender and the public accept it because "anyone can win any game". And let's not get started on the betting side of things, how many casual observers that brings in because they have a multi on, and how the "anyone can win" situation has many punters thinking a genuine long-odd big $$ win is just on the horizon.

Yeah I think by every metric the game is at all time highs. Last night sucked because QLD are outclassed everywhere, it happens sometimes. NSW scored some nice tries and were bruising in defence all night, they held up their end of the spectacle imo.

Yeah probably right and that's fair enough. If the younger generation like this tripe, that's their choice. We can fully transition into old men yelling at clouds.

I'm well on the way this year, I'm embracing it. BRING ME MORE CLOUDS!

I feel like it's never been a worse time to be a qld supporter.... so the number you are pointing to are potentially just the NSW base coming back after the 2010's were completely dominated by Qld, well at least in origin.

There is far more NSW representation across the game than Qld... so if they are up and about then the numbers will back it.

The 4 qld teams are not looking like they are anywhere near the genuine contenders, and only one of them is even coached by a qlder... are Woolf and Wayne the only qld coaches in NRL at the moment??

It just seems like the talent isn't coming through the lower grades, especially when you compare that to NSW.

They have been dominating the under-age origins, with their guys looking like actual NRL players in terms of physicality and athleticism, plus they come in and are able to fit into first grade systems.

Similar is also becoming apparent in the women's game where NSW play a style that is looking like first grade... in terms of shape, defence, etc. Compared to Qld who are still just relying on individual talent.

NSWRL system is just all over the QRL in terms of coaching and development.

Isn't this what Ikin is supposed to be fixing?

Shit's ****ed. There was no build up or hype to it at all and I had no faith in the team selected or the coach really. So I only had half an eye on the game last night and that's it really.

I had a small glimmer of hope that it's Origin so it's usually officiated differently. Nope. I remember looking over at the TV at one point and NSW got like 3 penalties in the space of a couple of minutes, the last one being DCE copping one for what looked to me to be a pretty obvious milk by Moses. Rolled my eyes and looked away again.

Edit: The commentary team as well. It's just ****ing woeful. The only time they're any good is when QLD are winning because they shut up.
