2026 NRL General Discussion Thread

Apparently the Storm are quitting the QCUP and fielding their own side in the NSW Cup next year
They do have two feeder clubs in Qcup (Falcons and Tigers)... are they dropping both of them?

I suspect they would keep Falcons... seems to be a relationship they're building with Sunshine Coast.

I wonder if that means they will reduce their poaching of Qlders?

Are they wanting to move into NSW Cup, because they want more NSWRL juniors?

Cutting ties with both the Falcons and Tigers

Broncos to take them?
We've already got 3 and I like the coverage we've got with them.

- Burleigh gives our numerous GC recruits somewhere to base themselves... specifically the young guys
- Wynnum is our Brisbane based affiliate and we've had them for ages at this point
- Souths gives us a foothold in the Logan area... we missed a lot of guys that came out of there when Raiders took them... Papa, Lee brothers, Milf, etc. We ended up with Milf in the end but had to pay overs to get him. Raiders were fielding a lot of Qlders at one point and that was purely because of their relationship with the Logan area.

I think the broncos should really bed down a relationship with those 3 clubs and look to map it out for long term affiliation... but I don't really know how it all works with NRL clubs and affiliates.

I think of Dolphins having Redcliffe... so any good Redcliffe juniors coming through will have an emotional attachment to the Dolphins in NRL. The broncos don't have that with anyone. If they can setup similar attachment with those 3 clubs and the spread they provide across the SEQ geographical area, it should see younger guys wanting to play for the broncos, rather than looking at the glamour of the broncos.

I think it's more likely that Dolphins could move in on potentially both or at least Falcons... because Sunshine Coast is meant to be within their catchment.

I think Dolphins other affiliate are the Capras?... so it's not ideal having top 30 players that aren't making Redcliffe having to go to Rocky or wherever they are based. Although they might have Norths as well.

Titans I think are down to 1 affiliate... or may have also picked up Ipswich, but they could potentially make a move for Tigers.

Maybe the new PNG or Perth club might move in?

Storm are always ahead of the game. Clearly, the Q Cup isn't up to standard compared to the NSW Cup, so they just get out and get into the stronger comp. They just don't have time for sentimentality and don't rest on their ill gotten laurels.

I envy the way they are run. Nice guys don't win NRL comps.

It’s like I said in the original thread, the QRL have a lot to answer for over the last 5+ years.

Mal Meninga will reportedly be the Perth Bears coach. the ARLC are in "deep negotiations" with Mal and only an eleventh hour collapse will prevent Meninga from taking on the job. they are currently negotiation Mal's remuneration package.

Brad Arthur, who was the front runner, reportedly hasn't heard from the ARLC in several weeks

I guess the NRL don't want them to be successful. Weird. And if they really want Meninga to coach, wouldn't the PNG team be the ideal fit?

Titans- Tweed and Ipswich
Cowboys- Cutters and Pride
Dolphins, Capras, Norths and Redcliffe

The Bulldogs are potentially in trouble for allowing Galvin to train in club gear before he was officially released from the Tigers.

He was at Bulldogs training this morning (Friday) but his release from the Tigers wasn't official until this afternoon.

the NRL have asked for a please explain

Any doubts about the Bulldogs now getting the "Panthers" treatment by the NRL should now be erased.
