Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2025

Surely there’s someone playing fullback in Q Cup we could sign on a train and trial deal with? I honestly don’t know, I’ve stopped paying attention to cup since it went behind a paywall

West did a train and trial with Brisbane but is only Bears fullback when Toia is out. But he has been strong either at fullback or bench for Bears and Pride last year.

Burt put Toia on the wing on Saturday and West at fullback so maybe a change has been made.

It’s interesting that no one is talking about Mariner and I’m happy with that. From what I’ve seen (which isn’t much) but heard, he IS banging the door down in Cup but what’s his pathway back into the team moving forward?
We currently have Karapani, Arthars and Shibasaki in the back line. They are going well, but if you can't back yourself to get back in that side and be patient it probably isn't a good sign.

Looks like there shopping Billy as well
Interesting aside that went straight under the radar. I wonder if he got this from Kevvie, or if he's been offered to the Titans? Maybe the Kevvie/Billy combo might be relocated to the Gold Coast?

I guess we'll know where Billy stands this afternoon, but it would be a shock if he's not named at 14.

That said, I'm not sure the club can afford to cut Billy's contract short, given Smoothy is going, and Paix doesn't look like being extended. The money could go straight to Selwyn, and that should be enough. But their depth would look like this:

9. Hunt (also covering 6/7)
14. Mozer (unproven)
20. Bukowski (green)

That looks a bit fragile to me.

I think they keep Billy another season. And if not, Paix, and he's no cheaper.

I wish DD didn’t even do that interview. CONEHEAD’ energy was so off putting, sitting there like a toddler that didn’t get his way.
With these guys he is damned either way. They have been dogging him for not coming on to talk to them for weeks so if he doesn't go on they keep dogging him and making up bullshit.

The try was Delouise putting him over and the Falcons fullback coming across not being able to hold him out.

Tries are over rated .
But seriously they are often created by others and finished by the guy backing up . Lookin at you Hammer .

I read a recap of his game . They weren`t saying he played poorly is what I was trying to say . Not just pile on with whatever the meme is for that player . I often see the same cliches about players when they have obviously worked on the thing that people associated with them .

I think thats just been some made up stuff about cows possibly being interested... but i doubt that they would be.

I dont really see a reason for us to get rid of Billy... he offers hooker coverage heading into next year and isn't on the books long term.

He's at an age where he's not blocking the pathway for either Mozer or Bukowski.

If we got rid of Billy then we'd be heading into next year with Bhunt, Mozer and Bukowski on the books... that could be a bit skinny for hookers, only because we are relying on Bukowski to be first grade level at like 20.

It could end up meaning we have to sign Paix, but he's younger and therefore more of a threat to blocking pathways (although i dont think he's good enough for that), but Paix would be looking for a longer deal than the 12 months left on both Bhunt and Billy.

One more year of Billy means Mozer is 22/23 and should be our number 1 hooker.

We then transition to a hooker rotation of Mozer and Buk... from 2027 onwards

Going to St George would be a disaster for Cobbo.

Flanno would not tolerate or be able to handle a player like Selwyn and could definitely see him spiral down there.

If he's not at broncos then he probably needs to be at Souths or Dolphins.

I think both teams want him, but are baulking at the price tag

Apart from Bellamy and WB, Flanno would be the best option if he was to leave. Penrith dont need him. Dragons doesn't get as much pressure as other clubs - so it could be a reasonable move. If he was to go to cows, that would be as much pressure as Broncos.

Billy can play 3 postions .
Paix only 1 .

I dont think Payten is the right coach for Cobbo either and I dont think Cobbo survives a storm preseason.

I just dont rate Flanno's ability with developing young guys... just looking at how he's dealt with Ilias, Sloan, etc.

He seems quite happy to throw a player under the bus and that could be a career killer for Cobbo.

I dont necessarily think Cobbo needs a hard ass no nonsense coach... he needs someone that will put the arm around him... which is basically Bennett.

He's been on the left at Bears and Leo and Mariner have scored six tries in three games and been great.

Hmmm , well he`ll mostly be chasing kicks on the right wing .
Because Kotoni is probably the worst centre I have seen as far as setting up his winger to score . We complained about Herbie not passing . How come Staggs gets no criticism ? So many times I think if Staggs had better spacial awareness rather than wanting a physical confrontation , the winger would be in space and probaly set up a try for some one backing up .

Flanno should be able help with Cobbo's fitness at least.

CONEHEAD will be kept, as he is clickbait for them.
It could be interesting though.

Fox use NRL360, etc. for clickbait farming that feeds into articles for Fox Sports website... but DAZN aren't buying the Fox Sports website (I dont believe anyway), so should they be caring about clickbait farming 🤔.

I think it will be interesting if Kevvie does get either the Titans or Cows gig because he will obviously take Billy with him.

The reality is, we've needed to shed some hookers and Mozer is the future and while younger, Bukowski looks great as well. We have Hunt to fill in as a pretty handy stop gap next year and if we lose Billy on top of Smoothy, we just extend Paix. Paix has already shown that he doesn't want to leave, so he will be very cheap.

Yes it doesn't really give us a utility like Billy is but we also have Black who looks like he might need to start getting some games next year anyway, he looked like he has levelled up in the under 19 origin - that was a cracking game and he looked like a mini-Reynolds out there until he got taken off with a HIA. He could potentially fill in as a 14 or utility as needed anyway.

And while he hasn't done it in a long time, Paix can play in the halves if we get REALLY desperate.

I really hope that Billy extends. There is a time in the near future Hunt will retire and even if Bill is not the first choice 9 or 14 for a period, he will probably be called on again when Hunt hangs up the boots or is injured. The prospect of having Buckowski and Mozer as 9 and 14 seems a little too juvenile and while Paix is a fair bit younger, he doesn't offer the same utility value. We already have 3 hookers who are just hookers as many have said previously.

I'd hate to see Bill be coached by Kev again. Kev often acts with his heart and not his brain and would sign his own son at his own detriment. I'd hate for them to get hammered the same way the Flannos are getting hammered at the moment.

I don't either, but I doubt CONEHEAD would have made it up. It struck me more as a blurt that's come from his mate Kevvie, which might just be beer talk, too. Bearing in mind, Kevvie's name has been in the mix to replace Des, and I would not write that one off.

I wonder if he would now that Billy has managed to hold his spot despite open competition?

It would be better for Kevvie to unhinge that potential albatross. I return and double down on what I said years ago: Billy should pack his CV (which is way stronger now) and hit up the ESL for his sunset payrise and take insinuations of nepotism off the table for both of their best interests.
